Orlandorandall Posted May 28, 2018 #26 Share Posted May 28, 2018 I actually did win $200 on the Dream about 2 years ago on the machine where you line the key up to go through the hole. And then on the same cruise another person winning he same machine.
briehon Posted May 28, 2018 Author #27 Share Posted May 28, 2018 I care because it was AWFUL to witness...this poor guy went from high on life to feeling cheated and super low. How can anyone not understand why I care? Ruined his day and the rest of his cruise. And oh, I already sent an email as did at least 20 other people that were standing there when it happened. I will be doing a full trip report on the Valor starting tonite. And I will just say, this isn’t the only thing that turned me off about the line. If so, you would do well to move on to another line promoting a casino policy that WILL payoff upon machine malfunction.
Pyrate13 Posted May 28, 2018 #29 Share Posted May 28, 2018 You have no way to know what the final outcome may have been between him and Carnival. Anything could have happened after the fact that you have no inside information of or participation in.
Rare lazydayz Posted May 28, 2018 #30 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Sounds like the malfunction may have happened after the win. Carnival can review the record of play and figure out when the malfunction occurred. I respect the OP and other witnesses for taking the time to stand up for the player. Awful to have a big win snatched away like that.

A machine malfunction after a win that could be clearly observed on a security camera? I’m just saying give this poor guy SOMETHING. Anything could have happened after the fact that you have no inside information of or participation in. I actually saw him this morning and asked. Nothing was done and he asked several times to view the security camera. After he went to the guest services desk and asked to speak to someone higher than casino managers...and he was NEVER belligerent or even raised his voice that was witnessed by other guests, he was told that if he didn’t drop it he would be removed from the cruise. Maybe after the fact when he gets home, something will happen....NOT. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Elaine5715 Posted May 28, 2018 #34 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Like the Spa, the casino is not operated by Carnival. I have seen people win on those machines and get their loot. I have also seen a lot of people try to shoulder the machines.
bingomamma19 Posted May 28, 2018 #35 Share Posted May 28, 2018 Casino was closed, there wasen't a legal win, unfortunately, bummer for sure! These type of games are open 24 hrs. It has nothing to do with casino hours. But it seems like it was a malfunction, so open or not, it wasn't going to be paid. The money would drop if it won. I have seen it hit a few times. joepeka Posted May 28, 2018 #36 Share Posted May 28, 2018 The OP posted the issue here because that is what this site is for; to express your opinion about things that occur or happen or are about a cruise incident. The OP didn't expect any of you genius's to solve the issue but merely make you aware. People post all the time who are "strangers" to others here. The OP stated it was their opinion that Carnival should make it right. Others said that malfunctions void the pay out. Apparently that is correct but why be so harsh on the OP?Geez; lighten up......WE all have opinions and write about them on this site. The4Cruisers Posted May 29, 2018 #37 Share Posted May 29, 2018 Obviously, the machine malfunctioned. Everything else is hearsay and non-substantiated. I agree with returning his $3 if there is evidence that he played 3 times on a malfunctioning machine.
mz-s Posted May 29, 2018 #38 Share Posted May 29, 2018 Machine malfunction...oldest trick in the book. The casino is a one-way funnel for money - it goes to the house, never goes the other way for any length of time. The house always wins! Even if they steal the win as in this case! Max49 Posted May 29, 2018 #39 Share Posted May 29, 2018 I guess they could program all the machines to trip the "Malfunction" light with all wins that they would rather not pay out. Makes sense; Carnival needs the money more than their customers, I'm sure

Makes sense; Carnival needs the money more than their customers, I'm sure This is highly illegal with land-based casinos - games of skill and slot machines are highly regulated. But in international waters, who knows what the laws governing casinos are. Very likely there aren't any. There is little luck involved in these machines, mostly it's just being at the right place at the right time.
Thehyperfisherman Posted May 29, 2018 #41 Share Posted May 29, 2018 Malfunction? Ill show you a malfunction *bombs chair through front glass of the game* gets kicked off ship * good thing i wasnt there because thats how it would have went
Mikew0805 Posted May 29, 2018 #42 Share Posted May 29, 2018 Casino was closed, there wasen't a legal win, unfortunately, bummer for sure! If a machine accepts money, then that machine is not closed. Besides, they leave that machine on all the time.
momof3cruisers Posted May 29, 2018 #43 Share Posted May 29, 2018 If you watch YouTube videos, those little key games are very fixed. The key frequently moves from where the player stops it. So with that set up and the "malfunction" I would never play one of those.
Rare luckybecky Posted May 29, 2018 #44 Share Posted May 29, 2018 Sorry this happened. I can imagine how it could ruin the man's cruise. As others have said, every machine carries the "malfunction" disclaimer. But it does seem that Carnival could have offered him something to offset the disappointment caused by the malfunction. This has happened in land based casinos too. It's a sad situation.
SkyPiglet Posted May 29, 2018 #45 Share Posted May 29, 2018 Ok so "Machine malfunction voids all plays and voids." If the machine malfunction and falsely identified a win, then it is malfunctioning. All plays are void and invalid, and the machine took the money. So return the money that was played, at the very least then the dollar on the play that malfunctioned. Like a few others have said, something could have been offered for his "inconvenience." A comped steakhouse dinner or something could go a long way toward softening the blow and keeping a customer who might otherwise not return to Carnival after this. glrounds Posted May 29, 2018 #46 Share Posted May 29, 2018 Wouldn't consider getting involved in any casino or "skill" game in a casino that doesn't have a State Gaming Commission overseeing it. Just asking for it.
LandlockedCruiser01 Posted May 29, 2018 #47 Share Posted May 29, 2018 And that is why I never play in casinos. Their slot/electronic games are rigged. For all the OP knows, the "malfunction" could have been rigged as well. I'd maybe do a table game or two, but the buy-ins are too pricey.
Keys2Heaven Posted May 29, 2018 #48 Share Posted May 29, 2018 "Malfunctions void all pays and plays" Common in all casinos And I'm sure this is by design. Casinos are in the business to make money.
