Can I make a 10:10 flight out of FLL

The early flight is probably significantly less costly because it is really too early for most people. Southwest will let you apply your fare toward another flight if you give them very little notice (I think 10 minutes), but buying a last minute flight costs a lot.

Depending on how often you fly Southwest, it might be worth booking both the early flight and a later one, knowing that you'll cancel one or the other. Your money goes into a holding account that you can use for travel for a year from the booking date....lose it if not used in that time.

Or you might decide to just take the chance.....

We're on the Caribbean Princess and will be getting off the ship Saturday March 2. If we do self dis-embarkation, is a 10:10 on Southwest do-able?

Dicey! You might want to consider booking a later flight so you don't worry about making your flight and be better able to enjoy your cruise! ;)

Can you....yes. Will you...about 90% of the time.

Maybe make it even 95% of the time.

Usually passengers stop gambling when the casino closes on the last night of the cruise. However, some like to continue gambling up until the time they get to the airport. But the odds are better for this than in the casino,

We have done it out of FLL on a cruise on Royal Princess. We were in first group off the ship with all self carry. That way you basically beat all the lines at, customs, the cabs, and even at airport security as you are among the first for each spot. Ship docked on time and we were at the gate by 8:45. I would definitely go for it but be sure you can self handle everything.

That is a brilliant idea!:)

As other have said, doable but stressful. I did it last year, off the Royal, had to go through passport control for a 9:45 flight. Only reason I made it, traveling alone, most were couples, huge amounts of luggage, me and my one bag went to this smaller taxi. As someone said, the stars aligned.

This was all on me! I missed the paper for getting off the ship, plus when Delta changed my EZ air, I didn't call to say it won't work. I've been cruising for 35 years, one can still learn! When I get off the Royal this Fall, hopefully it won't be like last year. My flight is 11:45, two hours later plus I will watch for the end of cruise paper.

Speaking from experience we made a 10:25 flight at FLL traveling from Port of Miami. Checked bags at 8am. In Nov we are cruising Royal Princess, we have a 10:50 am flight - we will self assist. Port Everglades is a short drive to FLL.

We just returned from Oasis of the Seas out of Port Canaveral and made a 10:46 flight at MCO. Left the port at 8:00 am was through TSA 9:25am. Port is 45-1hr from MCO airport.

Have you done this with Southwest?

My experience, not possible on other airlines....as when trying to book the other flight it will respond with "already have a booking"...I can't imagine Southwest allowing it with their "liberal" refund policy. Everyone would be doing it.

Now you could book SW as your second flight and then cancel.

LukeDawg leads a charmed life [emoji56]. There are so many ways those arrangements could have gone wrong: traffic and construction on any of the highways from Port Canaveral to MCO (I95/I4/US 417); construction and traffic at the airport; TSA check in which can be 5 minutes or an hour (speaking from experience).

You might make it 90% of the time but it’s a mess if you don’t.

Do you have Global Entry? That would help an awful lot. Being able to go on that shorter line through customs and the terminal and then TSA precheck makes a world of difference.

I know that TSA precheck in the AA terminal runs like a well oiled machine and I’m always through within 5 minutes, no matter the time of day. Leaving from FLL next week via Delta so it will be interesting to see how TSA precheck is there.

Yes I agree, we consider all the potential bottlenecks, if we can get a 11:30 flight that gets us home at 5:30 I would take it every time. That flight can be anywhere between 10:30 and 1pm. Unfortunately the next flight gets us in at 9 pm or later so we take a chance if the only other option is around 10:30 or so. I agree TSA, customs, accidents, or late arrival all can happen.

I've done it twice - on my first cruise ever, the travel agent booked me on a 10 am return flight from Miami. Even though it worked out fine, I was so anxious about it that I never used him again. On my most recent cruise (Allure), I booked a 9:50 am return on Southwest from FLL because the only other option was 6 pm. That worked out fine too - self-disembarkation and TSA pre-check were definitely helpful.

But I do realize, especially from lurking on CC all these years, that a lot of things can go wrong to derail such arrangements so I don't plan on making a habit of early flights. For my upcoming Canada/NE cruise out of NYC, my return flight is at 1 pm.

Just flew out of FLL in July with TSA precheck - worked very well! As a matter of fact, I'm trying to recall exactly what the security looked like (have been through several airports since then) - since I can't remember, there must not have been any issues! :D

And I agree about Global Entry - well worth the $ we spent on it.

I think the back-up SWA flight plan is excellent. If you have enough points, book the 'Plan B' using them. Upon cancellation (assuming you make the 10:10), cancel that Plan B flight and get the points refunded directly to your account. You will be able to ask for a full refund immediately on the gov't travel fee. But you do have to remember to cancel the flight you're not taking in time.

Anybody used the Mobile Passport Control System? It is an app that speeds you through customs Fort Lauderdale and Miami cruise ports and through 25 different airports. Check the web on this as it seem like something worthwhile.

I've been through Port Everglades twice in the last couple weeks. They aren't using the program at the cruise port anymore. Yes, you can check in on your phone, yes you can go through the special line along with global entry, but no, they aren't scanning them anymore. You will still show your passport like everyone else. But it will get you through the faster global entry line. A caveat though...the porters use the same line and they will cut in front of you. So sometimes it's not as speedy if you have several folks with porters coming through at the same time.

And if an agent goes on a break the line slows way down. This is what happened to us in March. And we were some of the last people off the ship. It was slow going

We experienced the same 2 weeks ago. They did not use the our phones.
