Just off Adventure and bartender lied about drinks

Recommended Posts

On board, the bars operate like a bar on land, that order from a supplier.  So one bar might be out of something, because they did not order what they needed.

And it seems that they cannot just call and get it immediately.  They have to order through their system, and comes at a specific time.

More likely, he misunderstood his supervisor about the whole ship being out when he was told that the bar was out..

Although, two years ago, it seems Grandeur sailed with two partial bottles of cachaca.  Used to make cairpirihnas.   First the pool bar ran out.  I had seen a bottle in the Viking Crown bar, and eventually (next day), it was brought to the pool.  When that ran out, that was IT.

I was amazed as both cachaca and caipirihns are listed in the printed menu.

And strangely, they did not even grab a couple of bottles or a case when we were in port.

Not necessarily.

If you've ever seen the way things are stored in HUGE BULK, there's always a possibility that the pallet with the Bloody Mary mix was hidden under/behind a pallet of something else, and it just took a few days for them to use enough product to dig down to it.

Fair enough, I didn’t think of that but it is plausible.

We were on Serenade for 11 days and the bars began to run out of Bloody Mary Mix on day 2. By day 4, all bars were out of Bloody Mary Mix. I have been at bars on the ship and they have run out of certain mixers until they were restocked later that evening. It’s not unusual to hear they are out of a mixer and ask one to go to another bar.

A BBC is a very popular drink... Not to mention all the other drinks that use Pina Colada as its base. It is very possible that he told you what he had been told... I highly doubt he didn't want to serve you.  Did you ask the bartender if he could suggest a drink for you? Maybe you would have found a 3rd or 4th drink you might enjoy!

To say he lied, call him lazy or say he didn't want to save you is really uncalled for.

Being a Prime member does not mean you are better than anyone else on the ship. You are really coming off like  Pompous A$$

Is there something inherently wrong with you? Just subtract the pompous for a self evaluation.

OK..there was a lazy bartender. WOW - that's the end of the world apparently for a very few people.

...but then put the frosting on the cake by venting here after the fact...dealing with it at the time with a simple conversation to his boss was the right thing to do. End of story.

Love the "end of story" use.

Yes he did as was reimbursed for the last 2 night of the package.

I think maybe the OP had a soda package since much of the complaint was with the Freestyle machines? I doubt there was an alcohol package involved for one drink a day.

We did in fact have the soda package so since the casino did not have either drink we wanted it would have cost me $13.00 to leave casino and go to another bar to get our drink and then return to the casino.

It is the statement that the ship is out of the mix that was the problem. We only drink 2 or 3 different drinks and BBC and Mudslides are 2 of them.  We only drink on cruises and usually only have 1 drink a day. So I can only assume he was too lazy to get supplies or did not want to serve me.

One drink a day and you buy the package priced at $100.00 per day for the two of you.

Asking for a friend. Did you tip the bartender the first time you got your Pina Colada?

She should have been all over you with that drink and any drink after since your drink would have been charged the 18% gratuity. Those with the prepaid deluxe package paid the gratuity up front so unless they tip extra which probably most don't she would have made an extra 18% of your drink price. The daily pre paid tips only go to the dining staff and room steward.

You actually took time out of your cruise and went to GS over a bartender telling you they were out of mix for a particular drink on the last night of your cruise? Did you also tell them about a single burned out light bulb in one of the public bathrooms as well? 🙄

We always buy the Drink Package and tip cash at least a $ US and sometimes more for great service. We have never had a problem with a bartender. They know the cash tippers.

We also pre pay gratuities and have never removed them.

I agree. I don’t usually buy a drink package, but when I purchase a drink I often tip extra, and definitely if using diamond plus coupons. I also think attitude goes both ways - it doesn’t hurt to smile, say good morning, please, thank you, etc.  Have found bartenders remember who treats them like individuals/people and not just their personal slaves.

I remember on Anthem, I was at the Two70 Bar for Spectra's show after dinner, and one of my favorite after dinner drink is a simple White Creme de Menth and Soda.  The bartender replied they did not have any at that bar, but gave me an option, If I would prefer to chose another alternative or If I was willing to wait a few minutes, she would have a bottle brought over.  I told her I was going to be here a while and will probably have a few, and my wife also.  So without missing a beat, she said sure no problem.  She actually went herself and was back in about a minute.  Drinks were great and she made a good tip.  Seen her several times during that week 😉

I went to the Schooner bar just outside the casino and ordered a Mojito. Bar tender said he was out of mint and couldn't make it. No problem ordered a different drink. Next day I went to Bolero's and asked the bartender Raquel if she would give me some mint. She said no problem. I then went to the Schooner bar and ordered a Mojito and got the same response no mint. I then said to the bar tender here you go and handed him the mint and told him they have plenty at Bolero's. Now I don't know if it's a communication problem or what, but if a bar runs out of something and the rest of the bars have it ,then why don't they restock at night by checking if another bar has something. Makes you think the Bartender didn't want to make that drink. Not saying that is the case but it is very confusing.

Ok, gotta ask...you wanted a Mojito in the Schooner bar, was told they had no mint.  So you went to Bolero's, a Latin Bar that is known to make Mojitos, and simply asked for some mint, instead of just getting your Mojito. Then walked back to the Schooner Bar, asked AGAIN for a Mojito, then when told "no mint," pulled some mint out of your pocket and handed it to the bartender in front of other patrons.  So...here's my question....did you watch VERY CLOSELY  while the bartender muddled the mint you handed him?  Because I'm guessing there's a good chance that a little extra "liquid" was added  to your drink.

Isn't 18% automatically added for service charge/tips?

Yep, but bartenders get a fixed amount for each drink package sold.  It helps to give them an incentive to give you another drink.
