I like answers, too.

This took a single google search to find.

filipino death on cruise ship;   tools->"past 24 hours"

https://www.travelpulse.com/news/cruise/crew-member-found-dead-on-ship-tested-for-coronavirus.html

Read the previous posts, we were both googling diamond princess probably why we struggled to find it.

My concern is for the inside cabin passengers. Can't Australia offer Christmas Island for passengers to get off at their huge quarantine camp. It's hard to imagine how I would cope stuck in an inside cabin but I think people might find adventurous ways to prevent depression. For example calling randon cabins on the free internal phones for supportive chats or even posting here to say I'd like a call in cabin XX please (on the internal phone system not the wider world!) . Little things might help mental resilience in a situation like this. Or call your neighbours. I'm supposed to join (or maybe not?!) QM2 in a week and I'm inside!

Christmas Island is now full and the second retrieval flight landed them into an old mining camp in the Northern Territory.

The Christmas Island facilities are full and the last batch of people taken out of Wuhan are in Darwin somewhere. I think it takes a while to have Christmas Island fully reopened as it was closed and only the first batch of evacuees went there.

But hey, it's nice you suggested Australia take them. No where in the UK suitable?

Yes there is. It is in the area of UK called The Wirral. It has a specialist facility for dealing with infectious diseases. I had a joke with a UK relative when she told me this last week, and I said that I bet they wished they could send people to Australia like they used to do with the convicts. Seems like some still think that’s the thing to do.

there is no fake news here at all...such an overused term ....above post is exactly correct...David does NOT feel well...yes dry cough plus other issues he described.  The doubling of cases overnight is difficult to present in a positive way so I guess negative it is.  This is in response to a post above #675.

I just heard that Japan is considering testing everyone on the ship for the virus and that no one would be allowed off until the results are known.  Wonder how long that will take?

In this morning's Washington Post updates article on the virus is this quote without any further explanation:

Despite growing calls to test everyone on board the ship, Japan’s chief government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said on Monday that under current circumstances, that would be “difficult.”

as I understand it they are still planning on quarantine ending Feb. 19th and those with no symptoms will be tested and then can leave. I am thinking they need time to get test kits for this many people...

135  total from CNN report this morning as total. Am worried about David’s cough.

They both looked drained on that last video that I watched this morning.  David has made reference to the facebook group and I think people are really at the end of their rope and venting on there...David is wise to just keep that private...so much will come out at the end of this ordeal. So many of crew have contracted the virus and I hope they are at least testing all of them symptoms or not.  The captain's announcement of the 66 must have been very hard for the passengers to hear and the captain sounded as one person put it "beat up". The audio was posted somewhere. Given the timing on these new cases it is clear there were many people exposed during the first 14 days of the cruise when all were going out their normal activities on the ship including group dining, spa, pool etc.

I agree.... They have had such a positive attitude... with the cough and the sudden uptick of cases... I am sure that they are concerned more than they let on. They have become a force for good on the ship... I am sure helping to lift spirits... so it is difficult to let people see something other than a positive attitude.  But in the authorities defense... everyone is learning as they go about this virus... and it seems more contagious and deadly.

I really feel for the passengers on this ship and hope the best for them. At some

point everyone will be able to disembark and their ordeal will be over.

If I were Princess I would be seriously thinking of  letting the ship just sit for a month(twice

the incubation period) after it was thoroughly decontaminated.

one my biggest pet peeves hotel or anywhere is a/c blowing in my face and not able to control it. Okay for a night or two...can get through it but David showed on his video this am that it is not just a small vent there are two as DAvid has a small  suite...one right over bed is a very large square with light inside and air comes out from all around...very hard to plug up and do much of anything. He is getting all sorts of ideas from followers but without much to work with don't know.  I imagine he is not the only one with this situation....I can't imagine the calls that they are fielding onboard the ship for different concerns.

But you think you know more than WHO, the Japanese Ministry of Health, and any other experts that are assisting Princess with this situation?

I expect the final count of passengers and crew who have contracted the virus from the single origin point to be around 160-200. That takes into account passengers who contract it from a cabin mate who was diagnosed after the quarantine started.

When it comes to my heath, yeah, I know what course of action is better for me.
So now, if you want to open the cabin door to get food, you have to wear a mask.  This is brand new information.  Could it be that it is airborne?  You don’t know.  Experts didn’t know.  Why took the risk?  Why not take extra precautions?  Cannot believe people are still arguing against extra precautions.  Hello?

Looks like you put a lot of faith in what people say even when they themselves don’t know any better.  How on earth do you think Japan MoH know that much about a brand new virus?  Naive much?

I think countries that have citizens onboard this ship should (if not already) be helping. Whether that is by providing more tests, helping processing tests, sending a medical team to help with this situation. Clearly by the lack of testing being done japan needs some help.

From a purely scientific perspective we are learning a lot about just how contagious this virus is. We will never know who transmitted the virus to who else on the ship. But we do know one single carrier is responsible for the entire outbreak on the ship. It is apparent that the virus is very contagious in confined settings. There was an outbreak in the original hospital in Wuhan where 40% of the cases were contracted in that hospital. The concerning thing about that outbreak was that people from different locations throughout the hospital contracted the disease. It was not confined to the area where the sick were being held. This virus is concerning in its ability to spread easily.

The actions of Japans ministry of health makes sense once you realize their primary responsibility is to prevent the spread of the disease onto mainland Japan and the secondary goal is the welfare of those on board.

Yeah, quarantine on land achieve the same goal but with better result.

Who said they should let those guys run around japan and infect their population like the walking dead?  A lot of the people on the cruise are Japanese citizens.

Same here. Was just on Celebrity Infinity over new years, and the dang vent above the bed blew either hard or harder, right onto the bed, making it very hard to sleep. There was no thermostat setting we could find that would shut it off, or even keep it at the lower volume for long; it would just start blowing harder after a few minutes. Apparently nothing maintenance could do, just how it was designed. I solved this by stuffing an extra hand towel in around the top of the vent cover, so that it directed the air more downward. At the first port day I actually bought a roll of blue painters tape and taped the towel in place on three sides so the air blew out sideways, away from the bed as much as possible. 🙂 This solved the problem for us, sleeping was fine.

That however poses the biggest problem no country has a facility large enough to provide full Small group quarantine  for such a number of patients! On th eu-shop you can at least keep them in small family units. There is simply nothing ashore that can provide the same kind of units.

A land based quarantine would expose  thousands of additional people.  Starting with the bus drivers needed to transport all these people.  Then the people who need to clean the buses.  Also are you gonna to have the cruise kitchen staff prepare the meals or bring in new people?  Also you will need security to prevent people from leaving.  The ship comes with it’s own moat to prevent this right now.  Logistically for Japan the best place is the boat.

Why is Davids AC suddenly a problem? Have been on long cruises and never had this problem. I hope they are not getting the virus. I always set the AC atbthe coldest setting at night, otherwise it was too hot. Something else is going on.
