Good morning.

12°C and sunny with a high of 19°C expected.

Great cricket where England played the last day like a limited over match rather than a test match.

The football was disappointing.

Credit to Hungary for fantastic goalscoring.

I hope everyone has a nice day.

I had to do the same.

When I see one of that age on the road today, I am amazed that I managed to fit into it at all !

I learned to drive on the original Mini - knowing no better, I thought it was a fantastic little car, though the window opening arrangements  etc. were pretty primitive.  We did always have something a bit bigger, usually a crummy company car.  My favourite to drive over the years (until recently) was an Alfasud.  It started to rust the day it went out of warranty, but was lovely to drive.  I have now succumbed to an automatic, which are so good nowadays as compared with years ago, when we used to disparage them, justifiably.

It is currently a lovely day - should not be too hot, but sunny.  Roses even better than last year.

First road car was a gold Vauxhall Viva, I did like my minis though, I used to extend the runners on the floor so I could get the seat back far enough to get my long gangly legs in, it was like driving a go kart, great in the snow though with a pair of town and countries on the front. However the heater and windscreen wipers were a bit iffy, not to mention the hours changing subframes.

Was the gold colour in any way influenced by the rust desperately trying to break though the paint? I have vivid memories of cars rusting as soon as I took my eyes off them and fibreglass patches that I stuck over the sanded down rust and painted with a spray can of approximately the same colour paint.

A beautiful day here too, 17c at the moment.

I agree, the roses are gorgeous this year. I pamper 4 of them that Dad planted over 60 years ago. He had a garden full and Mum didn't want to leave them when he died and she came to live with us. Only 4 of them survived the move 30 years ago, but they are still going strong🤞 and are happily flowering along with our own.

My first car was a bright yellow and rust coloured Ford Escort which brings back many good memories but if I think about it a bit harder it was also a PITA most of the time. The door locks were useless but the car had the ultimate security system in that the gear lever would just lift out when you parked up so you could hide it in the boot and replace it before driving off. Never stolen!

I did something similar Avril. My dad died just over four years ago and when my mum moved over here we brought with us a cutting of my dads rhubarb, it’s still going strong and still tastes a nice as ever.

My first car was a 1960 red mini, the windows slid along to open and the doors were opened  from the inside with a cord until my brother replaced the cords with levers that he got of some other car at a scrap yard where he and his friends seemed to spend every Sunday morning obtaining spare parts for their cars.

I loved that car even though it was old and I went everywhere in it.

The DH had just told me that I should tell you where I kept the dip stick in another car that I had.  I rang to tell him that a red light was on in my car so he came and picked it up from my work to take to his house to check it over.  He rang me to ask where the dipstick was and was surprised when I told him to look in the boot.  I had pulled it out to check the oil level then couldn't put it back so I just threw it in the boot.   He always says that should have been a warning not to marry me. 😊😇🤣

I went into dentist at about 3:30, score was around 120 for 4, I went to post office after dentist visit, when I got home Bairstow was in full flow, an amazing afternoon of cricket and what an innings from Jonny Bairstow which almost broke the record for the fastest ever century by an English male batter, a record held by Gilbert Jessop back in 1906 of 76 balls, Bairstow took 77.

In Gilbert Jessop's days a player using a cricket bat was called a batsman.  A term still in use until recently.  As far as I'm concerned it always will be.  Men are batsmen and ladies are batswomen.  Batter is something you put round a piece of fish!!!

I like hearing how you gardeners sort your gardens out . Now we are retired we tried to

make the garden more manageable and decided one of the hedgerows must go as they

were getting to much for us . Mrs K bought a few flowers and I must say the Bees are

loving it and we also made good use of one of our disused fish ponds and it's looking

good . I'm more of a cauliflower man and whilst the Mrs is no Carol Klein I must say

she's going in the right direction :classic_love:

Today I am test driving a Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid, unlike my aborted non- Renault Captur Hybrid test drive on Saturday, Toyota have confirmed that have a car to test drive, unlike Renault, question will be asked if folding electric wing mirrors are present and working in the model, after Renault Salesperson’s ridiculous claim that there was a world wide short of chips for folding wing mirrors across all manufacturers.

Interesting following complaints to Renault about what the salesman quoted, I has a phone call from them this morning to apologise for the misleading information given by the salesperson in the dealership. They have currently stopped installing the chips of the wing mirrors in favour of using them on other parts of the the Captur and Ariana, they have already however put in place a recall for vehicles to retrofit the chip when more come available, the mirrors will fold at some point in 2022 or 2023. There are however some elements that have been withdrawn from the spec and these would be detailed to the customer before any deal is signed. They will be speaking with the dealership to suggest additional training for their sale staff. They were also concerned that they had not retained a Hybrid Captur for demonstration purpose across their various outlets. Following that call I had a call letter from a different dealership about 25 miles away to offer me a test drive in a Hybrid Captur on Saturday, I suspect Renault U.K. had initiated that call.

Well, my first car was an Austin Mini Traveller, 1965 (ish). Starter motor button on the floor, sliding windows that let the rain in, and door pockets where the aforesaid rain collected. I used to put foam rubber in the door pockets to absorb  the  rain water.

And let's not start about the rusting sub frame, and trying to change the spark plugs without removing the radiator grille. As to the brakes - I don't know where to start, let alone stop !

And yet, I used to drive it from Colchester to Lancaster, no M62 in those days,  and it never let me down.

But "fun to drive " - absolutely not !

My first car was a Ford Escort 1300L, Bronze In colour, I think it was an accident prone vehicle, 2 days after I had it, it was hit by the milkman in his Milk Float, the milkman apologised profusely and the car was fixed by the Dairy.

Whilst out driving to work a van rolled back into me whilst I was stationary, his handbrake cable had snap, not much damage, fortunately, just needed a new bumper which my stepfather installed.

Third incident happened whilst driving down a narrow country Lane to pick up my then girlfriend from her job,    an unsecured farm gate swung out and hit the wing of the car causing a few dents and scratches.

Needless to say I changed the car as soon as I could after these incidents.

As you know husband has myeloma and cracked a bone in his spine, he is now in a back brace. We were due to go to Weymouth this weekend but obviously have had to postpone. Hence the nice weather 😂😂

My first car was a1967 Ford Anglia and it was white with a red stripe ,it looked spotless when i bought it for £200 , of course I was a little naïve and that car cost me a fortune ,every other week something would go wrong or fall off , I kept it for two years and the new owner ended up with a virtual new car, in a way if I'd kept it it would be worth a lot of money now but have to say that it is nice to get in a car now and know that ,god willing you will reach your destination !!!!

I'm very sorry to hear that.  I hope he gets on ok.

Sorry about your weekend as well, and hope you can get away for a break soon.

My second car was a Ford Corsair.  Anyone remember them ?

Large for the time,  with a bench front seat, and a tiny looking V4 engine sitting in an enormous engine compartment. Not a bad car,  but it constantly smelt of petrol.

Sold it at a great loss when I left university and got my first repmobile - a mark 2 Cortina. Never owned another car for thirty years !

Even now, after all these years, I could still pine for the little white  mini.  I loved it.

The only other car I ever enjoyed driving was my white Capri, but I think the mini got the edge,

I had a silver Capri with black vinyl roof.

Great in a straight line, but the back end had a mind of its own on roundabouts!

Oh, I’m sorry

Hope he can be kept comfortable

If it’s any consolation, we’re promised a break in the very good weather for the weekend

I think the weather is not going to be as good over the weekend. Hopefully you will get a nice week when you re-book
