I didn't drive until we moved down here, so passed my driving test in 1988 and my first car was a Mini Metro. My first long drive was  up to my parent's who were then living in Northwood, and I remember driving up the motorways in torrential rain!

Juneau today, there are 5 ships in today and we are tendering, we are the smallest too, quite entertaining on the tenders as we are crossing the flight path of the sea plane's. Great day in Haines Tuesday, small but very pleasant, we did our second visit to the Hubbard glacier yesterday, we got a lot closer than the previous week, the weather was stunning plus we saw our first wild bear. We are getting a few odd looks as most passenger's are dressed like Nanook of the north and we are in shorts and tee shirts.

When we saw our first bears in Canada, a mother and 2 youngsters some folk got out of their car to take photos.  Our coach driver said we will stop a bit longer so you can take photograph's of wild bears eating tourists.

My first car was a 1971 Ford Escort 1.3L, not a bad first car, except when part of the exhaust fell off one night returning home from my then girlfriend’s home, got pulled over by the police, who gave me 24 hours to get it fixed or face a fine, cue a lot of frantic phone calls the next morning, got it fixed then had to drive to police station to get it inspected, only to find there was no record of me being stopped or the need to bring it in.

Never had a company car, but I was responsible for the departments pool car, which got swapped regular, in my time we had a Golf GTI, Ford Sierra Cosworth, Golf TDI, RAV4 and an assortment of less powerful cars. We had the Sierra Cosworth for about 6 weeks until senior management found out, it had originally been swapped for a run if the mill Ford Sierra, which we had to return when a engine gasket blew, we need Ed a replacement quick as we were undertaking a lot of computer installations and the only car they had was the Ford Sierra Cosworth previously in the hands of one the senior advisors. We had a great time driving it, never had so many “volunteers “ offering to help on the project.

Reminds of the drive from Skagway to Yukon. The driver said if we're lucky we might see a bear as he braked hard to avoid running one over.

I’m on the 7am Leeds to London train for a day in the office. We didn’t set off until 7:13am (no reason given) and the number of folk who got on the train well after the scheduled departure time beggared belief.

You don’t get that when cruising out of Southampton. 😀

We were on a ship's excursion which involved a guided walk through a forest while on a Canada/Alaska cruise.

Our ever ebullient guide showed us a sign... warning that amongst other things how to be prepared against bear attacks. One of the preventative measures was to wear little bells... seemingly the bears would hear us tinkling along the path and avoid us. The main defence was to stand our ground look the attacking bear in the eye and use pepper spray.

All was well and we went "Hi-Ho-Hi-Ho!" along a wooded track. Then our guide stopped and pointed out a bear poo (NOT a Poo Bear). "Look! Fresh bear poo!" shouted the guide. "How do you know?" shouted an American tourist. "Well if you come closer" said the guide (trying to be funny) "you can see that the spoor incorporates little bells and there's a distinctive whiff of pepper."

Before our guide could say, "Win some, lose some!" one group of American tourists had turned tail and were running back down the trail to the safety of the tour bus as fast as their legs would carry them.

The small group of Brits that we were with... were really amused... but then... when we turned back to look at the path ahead... there was the bear!

Some of us made it back to the bus before the Americans. 🤣

Our manual dishwasher broke a couple of plates. DW uses the electric one now.

That's an old trick zap. Like mixing whites a colours in a hot wash and hoping we never ask you to do it again😉

Not a pleasent day for me today. Rose, our very close friend and neighbour of over  45 years is being laid to rest today. She was 93 and finally succumbed to cancer. It's been a very long 4 weeks and now we can  say our final goodbyes. It's so sad not seeing her having a cuppa in the garden in the morning and having a chat. We were as close as family. I shall miss her so much.

On the subject of first cars, mine was a Morris 1100 CNW 363C. Someone told me when I bought it never get a green car they are accident prone! The thesis being green means go, so someone is more likely to hit you. Sure enough three months later a van hit me and wrote it off, never had a green car since, but quite a few red ones!!

When I was about 14 year old ,my Dad had a sheepskin coat and had managed to get

some muck on it . As a kind and loving son when  were out I thought "I can clean this "

We had just recently bought a new front loader washer ,so I bunged it in there on a hot

Bio wash !  Then bunged it in the tumble drier for 1/2 an hour .

The good news was I had removed the stain . My Dad did not know if to laugh or cry at

my kind deed as it was now like cardboard and could stand on it's own , also it would

have fitted my 6 year old sis ,it had shrunk that much .🥴

So sorry to hear about your close friend and it will be a very sad day, despite her very good age. I hope you can remember her with smiles on your faces as that is one of the biggest tributes we can pay our loved ones.

Sending a virtual hug.

My husband was told years ago that green cars are unlucky.

He only ever had one green car, and he was never happy with it. He’s not a fanciful type of person, but he sometimes felt that someone was sitting behind him on the backseat, and he could feel their knees digging into his back. Also, sometimes he felt he had to struggle with the steering, as if someone was pulling the wheel the other way. He sold the car after a couple of months, and has never had a green car since.

At Denali lodge they instilled into us never to leave food around cos it attracts bears. After an excursion of never seeing one bear, next morning walking to breakfast "Yogi" was nicking pizza scraps out of the left open bins behind the restaurant. What peed me off was some ranger with a massive can of pepper spray shooing it off due to their incompetence.
