We have arrived at our apartment in Whitby and the weather here seems to be better than on the south coast. My nephew who is a train driver said his train hit a tree that had been felled by the winds. No one was hurt but obviously delays!

Lots of signs in the shops, bars and restaurants that we have been visiting, stipulating that masks must be worn, and that visors are NOT acceptable. Understandable really,  as they are of no use whatsoever.

That's a worry as this is what I am wearing ???? Why is it not of any use?

Just a thought that we are all probably at the point where the 'novelty' has worn off and everyone is totally fed up of lockdowns and not being able to socialise with friends, families and loved ones. Particularly when we see so many examples on the tv when this isn't happening and know that not everyone is doing it. Sooo many mixed messages.

Hubby asked me today how folk coped in WW2 for 6 years with restructions and how people coped.

Sadly, it was a different world, a different cause, a different generation and ... dare I say .... credible leadership and advisors ...

It was a generation that had suffered in WW1, the Spanish Flu epidemic, the 1930s crisis ......... we have been soooooo shielded from all of this sort of stuff.

Our generation (on the whole) hasn't seen anything like this before and the cracks are now showing ....

I wear a hard plastic full face visor in shops, today at the pharmacy and no one has questioned it and I have never seen any signs to say otherwise.

Because your breath escapes from the bottom of the visor, so there is no physical barrier, as is the case with a mask.

But your mask is totally different to those silly half face efforts that don't even cover the chin. Which is why airlines insist on masks, not visors.

Also, information during the war was strictly censored. For example, the labour strikes that occurred during the war were not reported in the press.

That's true.

I paid £15 on eBay for mine.

Pauline wears a mask but she got a £3 visor on eBay and it is a thin flexible film that is half face and useless so it hasn't been used.

Once in a Blue Moon does something strange happen like no more than six people can meet

brought in for some at the beginning of the month when we had a blue moon .(1st Oct).

People now debate if they should wear a mask at all.

Chances are it will take another Blue Moon to make more  people wear a mask .

I think we will see that happen due to a rare event ..Two Blue Moons in the same month !

31st October will be the next Blue Moon ( Halloween) so I predict maybe we could see a

few more  masks roaming the streets possibly in groups of six .

Maybe not the masks the government wanted but ...:classic_unsure:

I suspect a Halloween is a problem waiting to happen. Some parents will allow their kids to go door to door and the older ones will do it with or without their parents knowing. Parties are still likely to happen regardless of the rule of six. Perhaps, along with bonfire night ‘celebrations’ it should be banned well in advance with meaningful fines for gatherings of more than 6 and for parents of children going door to door for trick or treat regardless of whether they are aware that their children are doing it.

Graham.

My hairdresser wore just a visor initially in July when they reopened, but they were advised later to also wear a normal face mask as well. That was for the reasons wowzz gave, that the visor does not provide adequate protection to other people in close proximity to you.

I'm hoping parents will have more sense than to bring their children door to door this year, or to allow them out on their own. Every year we ready ourselves with treats waiting for the knock on the door, but not this year. Even if they do knock, I won't be answering the door this year I'm afraid.

@pete14  & @Adawn47    Agree with you both  Halloween @ Bonfire night  are going to

be the next troublesome nights and not just the kids .Lets be honest some people will

use any excuse for a party /booze up .

As for Halloween, last year it was very quiet and no children came knocking on doors

on our street ,I think they were having private party's at their homes .

I'm hoping common sense prevails and the parents keep their children at home as same as

Avril ,there will be no answer or goodies should they come visiting .

Councils ,it's odds on that all bonfire events will be cancelled ,They are already scrapping

New Year events in the towns and city's up and down the UK .

I'm with you Pete , if it takes fines to stop this spread of virus ,then I'm all for it .

I don't answer the door to them anyway. That way I can keep the sweets for myself. If I have to answer the door I wear a couple of different masks. One is a 60's shell suited DJ and the other a 60's glam rock singer. That gets them gone. More sweets for me.🤣🤡

10 points if you can tell me the singer of  the song "I'm the Leader of the Gang".

PS I think you have your decades slightly wrong! 70s, not 60s.
