To get off the topic of smoking and get back on the subject of what they will do, I don't see them putting Plexiglas (BTW,  Plexiglas is a brand name) between the slots.  For one thing, they are too close together.  What bothers me is that if someone does have it and plays on a machine, then they get up and leave, will someone disinfect the machine before the next player sits down.   I think the slots will be a breeding ground for germs.

Well, I carry hand sanitizer and gloves with me.....but you are right, it's a breeding ground.  Then again...everything is a breeding ground (which is why I carry hand sanitizer and gloves with me).

Oh look, a smoking thread.

No one here has given a good reason why smoking will be banned because of COVID. Banning smoker is a direct loss of casino revenue. That is a proven fact. There is also no correlation to smoking causing "congregating", and increasing the spread of COVID

Hmmm? Smoking is almost completely banned here. No smoking in any buildings that are open to the public, bars, casinos, restaurants, etc plus no smoking on patios or close to doorways. That was a big win for Ohio.  And yes, I hate smoking with a passion. And trying to argue that there are ANY health benefits to smoking is ludacris.

I can beat you....we have smokeless apt buildings...even in your own apt.

I loved NCL Bliss....the casino had a little room reserved for smokers.

Carnival had never had hand sanitizer in any of their casinos pre COVID.  I would bring my own bottle and squirt a few drops on the max hit button prior to playing a slot machine.

Maybe now those dispensers will be ubiquitous in their casinos???

I assume they get a fine from the landlord.  I guess if someone smells smoke they report to mgmt...or the super reports it.  It's in the lease...no smoking.  We have a notice in our lobby...no smoking.  The smokers have to go outside (there are 2 of them in the building).

I also live in Ohio, I don't think most bar and restaurant owners would agree with that.

Guess things are different where you live. I haven't seen someone smoke in a bar or restaurant in years.

I don't play the slots, but I would think the slot machines would be the easiest to keep clean.  As others said, each machine can be wiped down between uses.  I play table games.  How do they keep the chips and cards clean when every player touches the same deck.  I know Caesars said they clean the chips periodically and change decks more frequently.  To me the worst places are Casinos and hospitals.  Before this pandemic I would scrub my hands and use hand sanitizer frequently when at a casino or playing poker.

Once they hit international waters the rules are forgotten just like formal night dress codes.

They don't change drinking age in International waters. or smoking policy.

  • Wow. This topic changed it tone quickly.  I was on the Sprite out of Australia in Jan-Feb when this all started.  The Casino on the Sprite is NON-Smocking.  I was told it was going to stay that way until they got to Hawaii on there planed Transpacific.  of course that didn't happen.  Not sure if that is carnival policy or Australia rules.

A side comment about weight loss as a benefit.  I had a lot of people tell me they smoke to keep from gaining weight.  I have never actually said it to their face but have my thoughts are by looking at them.  "It's not working"

If anything they will BAN smoking, NOT increase smoking areas. There will be ZERO chances they will increase places to smoke.

A total ban of smoking on a cruise ship would be a dream come true. Its so disgusting.

How would less slot machines make them more money?

I wasn't clear.  If they took more precautions...like dividers between machines...they could be kept in service.  So more machines means more money....alterations would be worth it.

social distancing. If smokers can't congregate in the casino due to new rules, where will they go?

Princess has indoor enclosed smoking rooms with nice seating and ocean views.  Somewhat like the old smoking lounges at the airports, but a lot nicer.

Before all of this started, I told myself I'd start taking more princess cruises, I am really hoping they survive this.
