How can you identify the vax'ed from the un-vax'ed?

I didn't realize that different states had different requirements, for our upcoming Alaska cruise, everyone age 12 & up is required to be vaccinated... & since it's a late Sept. cruise, I doubt there will be many kiddos on board...  Can't understand why it's not like this for every cruise...

The last time we took an Alaskan cruise it was the final sailing of the season out of Vancouver but was packed with kids. There was a teachers' strike in BC and a lot of late bookings as a result.

The baseline should be all ages are required to be vaccinated. 💉

However, at present, children under 12 can't be vaccinated. Until that recommendation comes out, they either allow a percentage of unvaxxed, or outright ban children under 12.

I'm going with a guess that this one will be different... I do know they are limited the number of guests, & since we disembark in October..  I just don't think huge groups of kids are going to be an issue 🙂

& to add:  if they extend the testing requirements for our cruise, the under 12 group will need 4 tests to cruise on this itinerary, a further disincentive for lots of unvaxxed kids onboard  🙂  (I'm not anti kid, just a little concerned for them with Delta)

LOL. I'm pretty sure that teacher strike-related bookings are very few and far between, so I agree, you should be safe. 😊

The least number of kids we had on any of our September cruises was on our Summit September 2019 east coast US/Canada cruise. "1". Under the age of 5. Was told that during one of Capt. Matt's brief daily afternoon announcements.

I'm sitting in Oceanview on Equinox wearing my fashion-forward tracelet.  No way to tell unvaccinated from vaccinated.  Lots of folks wearing masks.  I do in elevators.  And if you just can't stand to wear a tracelet, stick it in your pocket.

So you can take this one on and off?
It seems an improvement to the ribbon ones .

Children under 12 are required to have three tests--one 72 hours before, one at embarkation, and one before disembarking.  The test really isn't a big deal, and none of them should cost anything.

Edit: Didn't mean to quote Mom.

Is this the tracelet that I referred to a little while ago?  That would be used for contact tracing if needed?

Hi All,

I know the RCCL issues a wrist band to the vax'ed to identify the differnece between vax'ed and un-vax'ed but I have not seen (read) anything abut how Celebrity is doing this.  Can anyone who has sailed since the re-opening shed any light on this please?

Cheers Eric

On our July 17 cruise on the Edge, the only tracelets we saw were worn by the crew. There was no way to identify those who were vaxxed from those unvaxxed. Masks were not required. We did see one woman who came to eat in Luminae every day who wore a mask when entering and leaving. We heard that those who were unvaxxed had a sticker on their sea pass cards.

Yes, it's removable and adjustable.  I believe they'll be collected at disembarkation.20210802_143447.thumb.jpg.6db37752282f1bfb7de237086903ff21.jpg

I read somewhere today that X will be collecting those at the end of the cruise to “recycle” for future cruises.

Hope you are having a wonderful time!

Say hi to Jean. 😊

Apparently Edge (and Apex) have sophisticated enough video surveillance that the tracelets are not needed like they are on S and M class ships. They continually mention contact tracing but there is nothing the guest is doing or providing to assist in that on E class.

We were on the 7/24 cruise and someone we met on the ship that was supposed to do a back to back was at our gate at the airport. He said he had been in the casino and it turns out he was at a table with someone who tested positive. So he and his wife were quarantined in their room last 2 days of the cruise and were tested 4 times for COVID. They were negative but were told they would have to wear a mask on the next cruise so they chose to get off the ship.  They evidently did the contact tracing from cameras. The dealer has to quarantine for 14 days.

There was also an incident at the craps table with an unvaccinated guest. He was told he was not allowed at the craps table because he was unvaccinated. He had a mask on, but I think there were designated areas for unvaccinated and the tables weren’t one of them. He got really mad and demanded to speak to the captain. He was told no. So he took all his chips ant threw them across the craps table and messed up all the bets on the table. Pit boss kicked him out. He showed up again later in the week and was watching his wife gamble. He was escorted out again.

On our 7/3 Edge cruise unvaccinated children under 18 were only recommended to wear masks.  Unvaccinated adults were the only ones required to wear them.  On that sailing vaccinated were given blue wristbands to wear.  There was some confusion about how long they had to be worn so probably 1/2 had removed them by mid trip.

I think we had those too... No one actually explained them when they were applied at; because they were paper, like the ones for concerts, etc. We figured they were supposed to be temporary. .

I’m curious if X knows the EXACT # of unvaccinated pax onboard. And, how they’re able to place them into different cabins.  This is all so confusing. Can’t understand why unvaccinated pax would even want to cruise with all of the restrictions in place. The unvaccinated gentleman who was kicked out of the casino had to know the rules before even boarding. Again, a situation where he thinks the rules don’t apply to him. Too many people with that mindset.

Celebrity knows how many people have provided proof of vaccination when checking in and how many were unable to, either because they haven't been vaccinated or were unwilling or unable to provide proof of vaccination. Other than errors related to fraudulent "proof" of vaccination presented during check in, their tally should be exact.

Your comment regarding different cabins isn't clear, at least to me. People book their cabins as they normally would, whether or not they are vaccinated. AFAIK, neither Celebrity nor any other line has separate cabins for vaccinated and unvaccinated passengers. And where would a family that is otherwise fully vaccinated but includes children under 12 be placed?

I can't really say why an unvaccinated adult would want to cruise, anymore than I know why they would choose to remain unvaccinated, but IMO, the restrictions are very minor and not much of a deterrent to an avid cruiser.

For the  Uk Silly sailings from Southampton if you are over 18 and unvaxinated.... You are not getting on board 😁 If you are under then you need two -ve tests and even those vaxed need 1 -ve test plus masks for all indooors. Safer on Silhouette than on land 😎

Just off the 7/25 Equinox sailing, had one for 5 days and had to replace it for the last 2 days... and yes, these are:
1. Recycled at the end of the cruise just before the gangway (big tubs to drop in)
2. Are water resistant only, not water proof (dont wear in hot tub 🙂 )see note above about replacing

3. Saw persons wearing them on their lanyard and not on wrist, so on person is ok
4. Wore on excursion but took off prior to entering water
5. Have different color dots for persons in same stateroom so you know whose is whose
6. Felt like a watch and easy to adjust as food/booze intake warranted
7. Was sitting in Oceanview beside a "close contact" couple of the 1 singular case on our sailing, security located the couple because of the tracelet, so they work...

Some folks reported hearing a chirp, some reported seeing a blue LED in the center flash...we saw neither, but YMMV...hope this helps

Unvaxxed on Crystal will have a red wrist band.

But what's to stop those folks from removing their wristband and thus blending in with vaccinated passengers? I just don't see wristbands as being terribly effective if they can easily be removed.

I sincerely hope that the vast majority of cruisers endeavor to get vaccinated sooner rather than later, thus helping to mitigate the chance of a serious outbreak on a ship, and that cruising can return to a somewhat more normal experience before too long.  I miss being on a ship 😞

I think it's only a matter of time before the ports take matters into their own hands. Just in in the past few days several changes have occurred.

US Virgin Islands are not permitting ships with unvaccinated guests over 12.

Grenada will not accept ships with unvaccinated guests.

St. Kitts is limiting ships it will accept to 700 guests.

It's just a matter of time before the islands themselves impose restrictions where it just doesn't make sense to find workarounds.
