Porto Flip:

A Porto flip is a type of drink. It is typically made with brandy, ruby port, and one egg yolk. The Porto Flip was first recorded by Jerry Thomas in his 1862 book The Bartender’s Guide: How to Mix Drinks; A Bon Vivant’s Companion. Wikipedia
Main alcohol: Port wine, Brandy
Ingredients: 1 1/3 oz (8 parts) Port, 1/2 oz (3 parts) Brandy, 1/3 oz (2 parts) Egg yolk
Preparation: Shake ingredients together in a mixer with ice. Strain into glass, garnish and serve.
Served: Straight up; without ice
Standard garnish: Grated nutmeg
Drinkware: Cocktail glass

Thank you. It is always a daunting task as my veins are pretty much non-existent. This is the first time at this lab which makes me even more anxious. Then as the phlebotomist was getting the tubes ready I realized there were 7 or 8 of them, 7 large/1 small. I told her IF my veins decided to cooperate today we'd be lucky to fill 2 large tubes and 1 small one. Well, she did get blood on the first stick. 🎊 Then I sat there for 30 minutes with the needle in my hand as my blood trickled into the tubes. (None of them were even half full.) She "THINKS there is enough in each tube for the corresponding test". 😔

 

She did tell me there are only 2 phlebotomist in that office which I was happy to hear. I felt bad for her because she didn't have anywhere to sit and her hand started cramping.

 

I left the doctor's office at 8:55 and even now, at 5:00, you can still see where the tourniquet was on my wrist. It is fading, but she did tell me it may bruise.

 

So, between Thursday and today my medical care is now established in GA. Everyone in the office and lab seem very friendly for which I am grateful.

 

I apologize for the long post all about my appointment. I do appreciate the care and concern shown here; I guess I have quickly become comfortable sharing with you all. (Unusual for me.)

Julia, are you new to Georgia?   You mentioned establishing medical care in Georgia.  We have been here 10 years now.  

 

As for veins, I sympathize.  My veins are plump and a phlebotomist's dream.  My late sister Nancy was just the opposite so more like you.  It was a problem her entire life.  At any rate, we're glad you feel comfortable here with us!🙂

I'm like you in the vein department. I jokingly say the only thing small about me is my veins! They usually use a butterfly in my hand, although sometimes get it from my arm. One time I let them stick me 4 times because I wanted to get it done.

Yes, I am new to Georgia. I was born and raised in Central Florida, lived in Massachusetts for about 10 years, back to Florida, then to New York for 5 years, now here. We decided about 4 years ago that we would retire in Georgia. We bought a fixer upper soon afterwards, have been working on it off and on, and are still working on due to DH being deployed all of 2018. We moved here permanently in March of this year.

In NY they would only stick me 3 times and have me come back the next day. After 3 days they send you to the hospital. (That's why I said IF my veins ....)

@JAM37 sorry to hear about your bloodletting experience . . . I'm blessed with large, easy to stab veins.  As a matter of fact, the last time I had to give blood for a medical procedure, the young man came into the room and loudly proclaimed "Wow, you've got great veins!"  To which I replied "I used to have good legs too, but now it's just veins; I'll take what I can get!"  LOL

I guess if you’re really in a rush they can bring it to you. Also, not to sure about calling them “Splashdown” toilets!!

 

We then caught the train back to Fremantle.

Good morning, all! DD is celebrating Moon Festival in Taiwan. It is customary to avoid swimming in the sea now because the spirits are able to pull you under during this time. It is also customary to eat Moon Cakes, a shortbread like pastry with pineapple filling. They are very addictive, and a much better custom than being drowned by ghosts!

We spent three days in Fremantle last March, but we’re not allowed to leave the ship until we were bussed directly to Perth. The day hotel in Perth allowed the Amsterdam passengers to go out and walk around, because we were considered ‘clean’. Some of the other ships had come in from more suspect areas and their passengers were not allowed to leave the hotel until they were bussed to the airport.

The hotel was two blocks from a beautiful waterfront park. It was the first day of the pandemic shutdowns. Some restaurants were closed, some opened for take out only, and one hadn’t passed the news to the morning staff and it was opened fully. These are photos of a beautiful stroll along the Perth boardwalk.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hopefully this will decide to post. This has not been going well today. I was able to post yesterday after clearing my cache, as CC Help advised me to do. This morning we were back to square one. I’ve cleared the cache again, and so far it looks promising! I guess clearing the cache daily is the new thing.🙄

I totally understand - I have the exact same problem. 

 

If I have a good nurse - she can do it.  If not, I’m stabbed numerous times.

 

I totally feel your pain with blood tests and syringes 😔

Everything Wine just came out with my favourite red in cardbordeaux. It doesn’t look as classy, but it takes the price down from $19 / bottle to the equivalent of $13 / bottle.😍

You can always put it in a carafe if you want to look classy or in bottle if you still have one of them.

No question cardbordeaux saves money and the wine stays better longer 😉 

When we were in Australia long ago, they were already having a lot of their wines in cardbordeaux.  I was shocked - every size you could think of from 1;/2 tire to a litre, 2 and up to 4.

I naively asked him about the bottles I see in Canada.  He laughed and said they export them since people think if it’s in a card board box it’s not as good in other countries.  The locals knew better 😉   Now, we have some here in cardboardeaux and that’s what we buy.

It was a independent tour we arranged through Fremantle Trams. They called it their Triple Tour, which included the tram tour of Fremantle; wine cruise to Perth; HOHO in Perth; then we could make our own way back to Fremantle by taking either the bus, or train.

Yesterday, on another thread, I commented regarding the Alaska cruise season being extended until the end of September.  As some of us know, the weather in Alaska for cruising becomes cold, windy and rainy as the calendar turns September.  This year, after a very late start in July, the Nieuw Amsterdam is extending the season to the end of September, a little risky.

Today, I got a promo for Royal Caribbean's Ovation and it seemed like a great deal:

7 day cruise in a balcony for $799,

beverage package and tips included!

The "Catch" being it is for the first 2 weeks of OCTOBER! The expected highs of 30'sF and lows of 20'sF, with rain and windy.  Good luck with the balcony.

I don't recall a regular cruise line ever running cruises into October, but correct me if I'm wrong.
