snowballs mom Posted February 28, 2023 #26 Share Posted February 28, 2023 No lanyard for me. I have a very small crossbody bag that I use for mine.
Mic101680 Posted February 28, 2023 #27 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I usually will wear a lanyard, except for when it's super windy on deck (almost lost one overboard once when the wind ripped it off my neck) or if I'm dressed up for dinner (I think it looks weird). I also won't wear it while in port - I know a lot of people do, but I feel it's a bit of a safety/security issue to have your cards out for all to see. Especially for those who also have their drivers license and CC shoved in a clear pocket around on it.
Qextor Posted February 28, 2023 #28 Share Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) I have a lanyard, but I don't wear it. I keep everything in a small backpack I wear all the the time when I'm out. It's really personal preference, so try it both ways before deciding. It's not really a good idea to wear a lanyard while off the ship, though... it screams tourist like nothing else. KaiBlue Posted February 28, 2023 #29 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I hate things around my neck but like the convenience of a lanyard. So I use a lanyard but tie it around a belt loop of my shorts or the cinch of my skirt. Mine has the detachable holder so the lanyard itself just stays tied. Works great for on the ship. When I go off, I prefer it to be in my backpack so as to not look *too* touristy:)
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 28, 2023 #30 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I'm team "no lanyard", but I also believe in the freedom to choose for yourself... 4
live.love.cruise Posted February 28, 2023 #31 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I was against lanyards for years and would put my card in back pocket, wristlet, someone else’s pocket or wristlet lol. That was until my mom brought me a rhinestone “bling” one a couple years ago….I love it and wear it every cruise.
Rare Saint Greg Posted February 28, 2023 #32 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I have mine on one but still keep it in my pocket. I do like when others wear theirs though.
ray98 Posted February 28, 2023 #33 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I wear a lanyard pretty much all the time on the ship. It is the most convenient method for me to keep up with my card and have it easily accessible.
hard_eight Posted February 28, 2023 #34 Share Posted February 28, 2023 Depends on what I'm doing 🙂 Casino, likely lanyard. Otherwise, pocket.
OceanZena Posted February 28, 2023 #35 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I packed my Carnival lanyard with me but didn't bother using it on this trip. I kept my S&S card in the pocket of a slim leather card holder with my ID in the window pocket on the other side. (pic below) It's so slim and fits easily in pocket or purse. You can get them cheap on Ebay in different colors. I got one in black and found it very handy.

cacruisin Posted February 28, 2023 #37 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I carry a purse all year long and enjoy putting it away in my safe for a week on a cruise, I also don't wear much with pockets so yes, I wear the lanyard. It's just too convenient for me especially with cheers I find I am constantly in need of it etc.
shortyjoesmith Posted February 28, 2023 #38 Share Posted February 28, 2023 Since our first cruise, my family has always used lanyards. I spent several cruises searching for fun lanyards that match the pop culture tastes of each family member and now we all have several to choose from. It's fun gift giving before the cruise and they get to enjoy having fun lanyards. Here are just a few that I have found: Goonies Gilmore Girls - Luke's Diner Wonder Woman OU Football Aristocats The Office Minnie Mouse Grey's Anatomy My Hero Academia Beauty and the Beast Mary Poppins Star Wars
Out of Iowa Posted February 28, 2023 #39 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I have used a lanyard for years. After my employer switched to lanyards, I wanted a some "freedom" on my vacation so I switched to the coiled bracelet version for my Sign n Sail card....either way, for a woman who prefers dresses (and so few have pockets), these solutions are great for me. I've encouraged family members, also, to adopt lanyards/wrist ones by providing them inside the cruise terminal as we wait to board. Nobody has declined my offer yet. Top_of_the_Cube Posted February 28, 2023 #40 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I like the lanyard, but truthfully, I have not taken the time to hook up my card to one in the last couple of cruises (talk about lazy). When I did use it, it was tucked under my shirt so it was not on display when walking around the ship or on shore. Tucking it in can also be a safety measure. I remember trying to explain how my card, not my wife, gave me a slash on my face when it was whipping around on the lanyard in gale force winds.
Rare Astromaid Posted February 28, 2023 #41 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I am a jeans and tee shirt gal, I never wear jewelry. But when I started cruising I bought beaded and jeweled lanyards through etsy. Cruising is very special and it is another way I celebrate. I have six of them in different colors.

It looks cheap but it’s so light that I barely notice it. I started using a lanyard when I began leaving my card in the slots in the casino. 😂 I have the same ones. And use for the same reason, lol. Actually, I carry a small purse and hook it to the purse when not in the casino.

near the beach Posted February 28, 2023 #44 Share Posted February 28, 2023 On the ship we always wear one. It's much easier than getting my card out of a pocket. We don't use a lanyard in ports.
EL Pinkaminco Posted February 28, 2023 #45 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I couldn't help myself, but this made me laugh long & loud! The S&S cards aren't going to make me look any more "touristy" then I look naturally! I'm a very pale Irish girl, running around the Caribbean, all excited, yelling at her husband yelling "LOOK AT THIS!!!" and "LOOK AT THAT!!!!" followed by a few "TAKE MY PICTURE WITH __________!!!!!" I just cant help myself! Yes, he is a dear to humor me so!!! Me? I'm also a hybrid, lanyard in the day, clutch in the evening. 1

HOUSTONVIP Posted March 1, 2023 #47 Share Posted March 1, 2023 Love a lanyard. not to wear around my neck but to have something bright and colorful attached so that FINDING the card in the room is easy. Plus it's easier to carry around and harder to lose if something is attached. hangs nicely on the hat rack, I would say don't wear it around your neck if it's your first cruise, that's a rookie mistake. "look at me I'm a newbie!!!!" Likewise, Platinum and Diamond cruisers are just showing off. Some veteran cruisers have cried foul to me when I point out wearing first cruise sign and sail cards around the neck is hilarious.Of course they are welcome too. May1cruiser Posted March 1, 2023 #49 Share Posted March 1, 2023 yes, wear lanyard. Usually flip room key backward to not show what color it is. Also wear inside shirt when in port to make it less obvious we are tourist.
