Good morning friends!  Today will be a stormy day so I hope I don't get encounter high winds with falling trees and flooding streets as I go to and from my hair appointment.  Why does bad weather occur the one day a week you have an appointment?  Anyway, it is 66F, cloudy with a high of 70 expected and I can see the storm heading towards me on the weather radar map.  Sigh...

 

Today we can celebrate Old Stuff Day.  Now you can either prize your old belongings or you can interpret it to mean it's time to get rid of it.  Many on the Daily seem to be tossing and donating their old stuff and at our age it makes sense.  I haven't reached that decision yet.  Ahh, here's a day for all of you.  International Rescue Cat Day!  Cats are popular with our Dailyites.  Also our friends from UK and Ireland can celebrate World Book Day, and probably don't mind if the rest of us join in.  An interesting Socrates quote.  Can't wait to see what Debbie @dfishdoes with the Vegan Shepherd's Pie recipes.  No thanks to the drink and wine for me.

 

I have to say thanks to Rich @richwmnfor the content of today's Daily and Fleet Report.  Preparing it all ahead of time was genius but a lot of work for him.  I hope he is now enjoying his time away from home on the World Cruise.  Thanks also go to Vanessa @JazzyVwho is handling the Care and Celebration lists, as well as Ann @cat shepard, Dixie @summer slope, and Debbie @dfishfor their reports every day.  We have a lot of people to pray for and I hope you will join me in the prayers🙏  Included on the list are the people from around the world in turmoil from their various disasters.  Also we have those rejoicing with their celebrations and happy times.  Those especially on their cruises, have a wonderful time.  We are all fortunate to be able to do that.🥂🚢

 

Today our port of the day is Trondheim, Norway, another beautiful Norwegian city.  It was listed here once on February 20, 2022 and I will post Rich's link from that date below for your convenience.

 

We went to Trondheim in 2016 on the Best Norway Cruise Ever on Prinsendam, and then again last summer on our Island Princess (Covid) cruise.  I was out of Covid jail, but DH was still in so I walked around there on my own.  I'll show my photos from 2016.

 

On July 1, 2016 the Prinsendam arrived in Trondheim, Norway.  It was also Canada Day so later that evening we had a great celebration at our dinner table, since our 4 tablemates were from Canada.  Three days later we all 6 celebrated July 4th Independence Day.  Here are some arrival photos.

 

On our left as we entered the harbor was the Munkholmen, an ancient fortress island.

We departed the ship and walked towards the the famous Nidaros Cathedral.  But we had lots to see before we arrived there.  I love the fact the Norwegians aren't afraid of using color on their buildings.

 

 

 

On the way to the Cathedral we passed the Church of Our Lady, St. Mary's, built at nearly the same time as Nidaros Cathedral.

 

Oh my, we passed by lots of interesting places on our way to the Cathedral.  Parks, squares, shopping malls, statues, murals on walls.  

 

 

 

We finally arrived at the Nidaros Cathedral but for some reason I couldn't get a level photo of the front of it.  All of them seemed to tilt!  I tried over and over.  

 

That was the best I guess.  This Cathedral was built in 1070 and is the largest one in northern Europe.  Pretty impressive from the outside.  I wondered if they gave tours of the inside so went into the visitor center across from it to see.  There were very long lines but when I saw the very expensive ticket price I decided to pass on waiting for a tour.  We had lots of other places to see in Trondheim, too.

 

It was massive so we walked all the way around but could never get a photo of the whole thing in one shot.

I have about 3 dozen photos but did see this one finally as we left the property.  You can see a lot of it here, except where the one tree in the middle is blocking the view.  

 

There are so many photos of Trondheim I will post now and begin another post to finish them up.

After we left the Cathedral we walked to the Gamle Bybro bridge, called the Old Town Bridge. 

 

It's become the symbol of Trondheim and connects the two banks of the river Nidelven.  It was first built in 1681.

 

 

 

Continuing on

 

We were headed uphill towards the Kristiansten Fortress built in 1685.  Very steep climb.  On the hill along the curb was a bicycle lift.

 

 

You put your right food on a triangular shaped metal pad that rises up the hill as you sit on your bike and it does all the work.  Here's a pic of someone using it.

 

 

Anyway we got up to the Fortress and walked around quite a bit there.

 

Lots to see inside.

 

 

 

 

At the bottom of the hill we enjoyed seeing the little shops and restaurants as we headed back to the ship.

 

 

 

Back to the lovely Prinsendam

Good morning.

It is currently 10.35am 43°F and cloudy here in North East England.

Thank you Sandi for the early introduction of the fleet reports and Daily.

Cats are lovely and every day should be cat rescue day.

When I was a child my late dad worked in one of our local ship building yards where there was lots of stray cats and we adopted several over a 20 year period.

We regularly clear old stuff usually clothes and take them to the church shop or to local charity shops.

Pauline reads books all of the time and even though I don't now I always remember how well the western books I read were written and Pauline agrees her books make her feel she is there.

All life should be valued.

Got cleaned up from our snow yesterday - just in time for the big one coming later today and all night.  So much for the meteorological spring that arrived yesterday 🤷‍♀️. From the spring forecast, it sounds like March is going to be a rough one 😔 

 

 

guess I was overly optimistic yesterday afternoon - my elbow started to complain last night and is still grumbling this morning 😌. Oh well, not much on my plate today other than a lot of work on spread sheets and the FCL.  And maybe, just maybe some seeds 😘

Cold and cloudy here today and another snow storm in the forecast for tomorrow.  We're heading out to hunt for food this morning.  And wine, we need wine!

 

A good collection of days.  My DH and I love old stuff, but I'm trying to get rid of some of ours and donate it to local organizations.  There are a lot of cats that need to be rescued, thanks to everyone who helps.  I love books.

Good morning. We celebrate  cat rescue day everyday here and I am sure we have a lot of old stuff that needs to be dealt with.I look forward to the recipe and thank Sandi @StLouisCruisers, for the beautiful Norway pictures. 

I am trying not to worry  until I have to but it looks like there are several problems the doctor found on the CT scan Monday.Today we are back to the cardiologist  to see if something  needs to be done about a finding at the aorta.I am glad the weather for today is only rain.Yesterday I saw two different cars hit patches of black ice and take a spin.Fortunately they missed the rest of us.

 

DD has 4 indoor kitties,all rescues.

Another somewhat elusive wine. I used the 2019 info, since that might be the easiest to fin. Very good consumer and critic ratings, and at least one domestic distributor willing to ship to me for $21.99 plus shipping.

Think of a classic red and you’ll hear noise — a big bombastic bottling with deep, rich flavours and a blood red colour. Clarendelle’s Bordeaux-made offering, however, is a little more refined. Rather than going for power, it perfects the balance and elegance of considerably more rarefied wines.

Terry, I'm sorry the doctor found something on the CT scan the other day.  Hopefully the cardiologist has a simple treatment for the aorta problem🙏  Your DD's cats are very good looking animals.  They look well cared for.  Be careful driving out there today.

Terry, of course you will worry. It is natural in the best circumstances, but what you have been through during the past few years makes it worse.

Good morning, everyone!

 

We had a dusting of snow fall overnight here in mid-Michigan.  We're still waiting for a definitive forecast for tomorrow.  One says 6-10 inches and another says 2-6 inches.  I won't be rescuing any cats due to allergies, but can celebrate Old Stuff Day.  I have many things that have been handed down in the family.  I recently gave my goddaughter, Elizabeth, a glass cake plate that has belonged in the family since 1850 or there about. We also have Grandma's needlepoint chair.  She did the needlepoint for the seat and the back of the chair.  We had those panels cleaned and we are having the rest of the chair recovered and chose a beautiful light blue to match the blue in some of the flowers on the needlepoint sections.  I remember when Grandma did those.  I think I was late high school or early college then.  The chair was old then and it has been 50 years.  Books are celebrated every day in this house.  

 

Not much on the agenda today.  I'm going to the gym today to do the weight machines and then I'm taking DB to the grocery store.  He feels he's turned a corner with the knee and can get through the store with an amigo motorized cart.  This should be interesting. 

 

Today's meal reminded me of @smitty34877 Terry and her household.  It would be a good one for the vegetarians.  You could make two small ones, one with meat and one without.   Most of the recipes use lentils in place of the meat, but you could use the plant based meat substitutes like Beyond Meat.  Here's one that uses lentils.  https://minimalistbaker.com/1-hour-vegan-shepherds-pie/

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  We have lots of old stuff in our house, but have gotten rid of some of it this past year.  Like many of you, I'm sure our kids aren't going to appreciate all of our old stuff when we're gone, so we might as well dispose of it now and save them the hassle.  It's interesting that it's World Book Day, but only recognized in the UK and Ireland.   LOL

Not a lot happening here today, except setting up the old computer, attaching it to the internet and letting my friend come in and poke around to find our old emails.  He isn't available until after 5 today, so that will give me a chance to start working on a new blanket during the day.  I managed to get the afghan unraveled yesterday but it took nearly 3 hours to do; well worth it, though, as you should see all the yarn I now have to work with!

 

I don't care for whisky, so will take a pass on the drink of the day, but I'm sure I'd enjoy the wine.  As far as the menu suggestion, I think some ground beef would be added if I made any of the recipes.  LOL  For us, I'm going to brown up some mild Italian sausage, add it to some tomato sauce and will make a casserole of baked spaghetti that we'll enjoy with a tossed salad at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

 

Prayers for all who are in need, especially those involved in the disasters around the world.  Extra prayers for the family of the HAL staff who perished in Curacao.  Cheers for everyone with celebrations happening today.
