Enchanted roulette table has added number (princess head)

I love playing Roulette.... at least I did... until Enchanted Princess added another number to the wheel.  This increases the house chances by having 39 numbers and then they keep payouts the same.  Seems Princess is not making enough money in the casino so they have to "cheat"/ make their own number to improve their odds of winning.

I wonder if this will 'run off' the serious roulette players (like yourself) and free up table space for the novice players (like my wife) who may be 'intimidated' by the player(s) who put stacks of chips on various numbers/combinations?  She still enjoys playing even with that, and prolly will not notice except to state, 'look, a cute new space'

On any given night, are most roulette players the serious gamblers?

Never said I was a "serious" player just that I love roulette.  100$ limit every night max losses.   I do enjoy seeing the "high" rollers come in with their 100$ chips and try playing different patterns/ methods.  One couple lost $2000 in 4 spins.   bet 100 on red - lost, 200 on red - lost, 400 on red - lost, then finally 800 .... LOST.  That and several other random 100$ bets.  Seems like Vegas would know what it takes for house to stay on winning side.... Princess just wanted to make sure they were going to win more frequently by adding that face.

My DH was just telling me about this recently on our Sky Princess cruise. He never plays roulette - he likes Craps and pretty much plays that exclusively, maybe a bit of blackjack or three card poker here or there. But he is very aware of the games and talks with other players and this exact issue came up in a conversation at the Craps table one night so he took a look at the roulette wheel and sure enough noticed the extra slot. He was trying to explain to me why that is a big deal for people who like roulette, nongambler that I am, and I gathered from what he said that it further reduces the winning odds for the players and increases house odds. Seems like a bad deal for roulette players.

I'm not being a jerk, but was it an actual extra space or was it covering an existing number? They'd had to have had a custom wheel made.

Even the single 0 European style roulette wheels have terrible odds compared to most table games, adding a double zero or triple zero is basically just deciding if you want Mike Tyson to punch you in the face, 1, 2 or 3 times.

A triple zero wheel give a 7.69% house edge, which is still better than any slot machine you'll find within a ship's casino and there's no shortage of players pouring their money into slots.

They have probably determined that most people won't notice or care that the odds are now worse, and they will continue to play, just like with Blackjack and 6/5 payoffs that have taken over.

I have no dog in this hunt but I find it hard to believe that they would have custom wheels built...I bet you are correct in that it covers an existing number.

Not a chance that happens - that would change too many odds - odd/even, red/black, rows, columns

Whether it be roulette, black-jack.. the pokies.. anything in the casino on a ship they've changed the odds to a worse proposition than you face on land - and on land it's already stacked in the casino's favour. On land, the casinos face different laws. Given the odds are so poor.. why would you bother? We at least like to have half a chance if we're going to throw money away haha. Surely they must have the wheels custom-designed. They would need to already do so to get say 38-numbers rather than 37 on land.. so that's probably how they get to 39. Makes the odds pretty awful. Then again.. Princess are just one big corporate guzzling machine trying to hoover up our money on board.

The best player odds in a casino are Craps and BJ (with a strategy).  They've impacted BJ already with the change to 6:5 payouts on a BJ.  Wouldn't surprise me if they are looking into a way to change the Craps odds.  I prefer to play Texas Hold 'Em poker.  Sure there is a rake from each pot, but I am playing other guests and not the House.  After all, doesn't the House always win?  (In the long run).

I don't understand the part about "princess head" in the title of your thread.

For me, thinking Sea Witch logo gave me an idea of what was meant. There is a Google Image of this wheel with the new slot.

I Googled, "Princess roulette wheel". The image takes you to Cammegh products in the UK that makes bespoke wheels, but I could not find that photo on the website. Bearing in mind, I am assuming that was the OP intention and not saying that company made the wheels, only an image.

I noticed this as well...it's just a triple zero wheel so no custom ones being made. The triple zero is replaced with a sea witch head

Unfortunately, the "triple zero" wheel really is a thing.  I've never played one, but I have seen them in Vegas.

Here is the bottom line on any casino play - you best be playing it because you enjoy it and not because you expect to win. DH plays Craps because he really loves playing. It’s a sport for him. The fact that he sometimes walks away a winner is a bonus. He knows what he’s willing to spend and his return is the enjoyment he gets and the friends he makes at the table, both fellow guests and crew. Generally on most cruises he leaves even or just loses a small amount. On a few of our cruises he’s won big, but that’s the exception and not the rule. But he never plays more than he’s willing to lose. And for all of that he gets hours of fun on our cruises and we get fantastic cruising perks and discounts that make cruising with Princess very affordable. So it’s all good - you just need to realize that you pay to play. Winning is a sometimes bonus.

If everyone who has ever claimed to win in vegas actually walked away over time a big winner the casinos would have shut down decades ago. Most people always remember the wins but conveniently forget the losses.  Casinos love that. A LOT.

Just because someone got lucky and hit a jackpot or get hot at a table game etc means nothing.  The question is did they quit and leave a winner or did they keep playing and lose that and more back to the casino?  Casinos get tons of free press everytime somebody hits a big jackpot and pretty much zero press of the millions that consistently lose day after day, year after year.

That is one reason casinos love to call it "gaming" and not gambling....gaming denotes "fun"....while gaming can be a lot of fun losing is generally not all that much fun.   Add to that the fact that most players do not have even a basic understanding of odds and basic strategy which further increases house odds and guarantees the casino will always win over time.

As we have all heard many times casinos don't build those big massive expensive casinos because they lose money.

Overall, I agree with you about playing against other players. The annoying thing about the rake is that the dealer is automated. At a regular casino, there is a person dealing so you know that some of the rake is going to pay for the dealer. With an automated dealer, it's just more money sucked up by the casino.

On my last cruise, I played a hold 'em tournament and the casino cut was 20% of the overall payout ($60 to play, $10 went to the casino, $50 went to the prize pool.) In land-based casinos I always seen the casino cut as 10% of the prize pool (for example, $55 to play, $50 to the prize pool, $5 to the casino)

I guess you can just look at it as vacation tax.

The rake at the electronic Holdem tables on cruise ships is much higher than the typical Vegas casino.

And the game moves much faster without the dealing or counting of chips. They are cleaning up on the hold'em table compared to a real dealer/table

This doesn't have anything to do with table games but last week on the Crown a lady was playing a slot with $8.80 as the top wager.  Just about everyone in the placed stopped when they announced a jackpot of $187,000 was just won.

Sure enough it was flashing on the machine, the winner was shaking filling out paperwork and they rest of us were staring with our mouths hanging open.
