How has my day been so far ,you ask ?

I woke up at 7 this morning. It was very sunny out but the temperature was 10 degrees and very windy. We had 19 “ of snow.

I took a shower but in the shower my left leg and left foot were so numb that I had to scream the name of Nurse Toby to help me out.Afterward I had breakfast and washed my dishes. As I was washing a knife I cut one of my fingers and Nurse Toby once again came to the rescue.

It’s great that you have Nurse Toby to always come to your rescue.  It seems that every day more and more I’m turning into Nurse Lucas around here.  It becomes mentally and physically exhausting at times, but at least there is CC and binge watching shows to help.

I want to relate a story that has two subjects that are often discussed on this thread:

cruising and dogs.

Several years ago Toby and I were on a cruise. On the day we boarded the ship we went to the buffet for lunch. We found an empty table with 3 seats and sat down.A woman approached and asked if she could join us .She sat down and we introduced ourselves.

She asked where we live and we said NY,she also lived in NY.I asked where and she replied LI.We said we also lived there. She asked which town and we lived in the same town

I asked what street she lived on and although we were very familiar with the street we never knew anyone living there. We told her the street we live on and she replied that she has a very good friend living there. Our development occupies the entire street.

I said we may not know her friend as there are 1560 residents. She then told us the name of her friend.I replied “Does she have a beautiful dog named Cooper ?”.

She said yes.I said that her friend, husband and Cooper live across the street from us and Cooper is my favorite dog in the complex.

The woman took out her cell phone ,dialed a number and said that she is sitting with Toby and Lenny. That was amazing.

The woman then told us that her husband recently passed away and her friends have been urging her to move into our complex.

We did not see the woman on the ship after that but recently not only did she move into our development but she is now living on our block.

Bob, your oven has to have a bottom element, it's just not exposed like you would expect.  Without it, you would only be able to broil, not bake.  We have a GE Cafe oven and you cannot see its bottom element.  Also, the oven has a steam cleaning feature (in addition to the typical, very hot, self-clean setting).  You pour a cup of water in the bottom of the oven, and set it to steam clean.  When done and cooled off a bit, soak up the water with a towel.  It only takes 30 minutes and makes minor messes easy to clean out without stinking up the house.

Joy

Thanks!  Great to know.

I feel your pain. Or, rather, queasiness.
I hope you get relief from whatever remedy is available.
Maybe Mike can go check the Medical Center. Sometimes they put meds outside their door when the water is rough.

Mike did get a green apple from the WJ and some ginger ale. It helped some, but I didn't sleep well. Ate a blueberry muffin this morning but that didn't help it one way or the other, but at least I wasn't so hungry. My stomach still feels like crap so I ordered some ginger snaps and candied ginger from Walmart and will pick them up soon.

An article appeared recently in the New York Times of Israel about a Romanian woman age 96 who is a Holocaust survivor .Her son was a professional basketball player in NY and her grandson played in the US and Israel.

The woman’s name is Lily Grunfeld, her son is Ernie Grunfeld.

Have a safe trip home.  Hopefully when you arrive in Hartford, the sun will be out and the roads will be clear.  If I remember correctly (not at all a given), you were going to try a Miami Vice on this cruise.  Did that ever happen?

If his flight got off on time, O.B. should be landing in about an hour from now. It was 6 degrees earlier this morning, but is now a "balmy" 14. The sun has been doing a great job at helping the roads dry off and by all indications, he should have an uneventful ride back to Rhode Island.

What beach at Thomas?

That is Magen's Bay.

In the morning we went to a beautiful spot on an excursion.  Secret Sands/Smith Bay. Upon return we ended up jumping in taxi to go to Magen's for a couple hours.

Deck 11. The Diamond Lounge was unbelievable with the water hitting the windows!  Tim Hortons is on Victory and Richmond Avenue on the way to the Mall.  It has been there awhile.

I hope you and Charlie are doing okay this morning.

I have a SI question .There is or was a Diner on Richmond Ave .I forgot the cross street but it was a shopping area.I am trying to recall the name of it.

I’m making spicy sausage & lentil soup, that should warm Andy up when he comes in shortly.  We’re all packed & ready to go.  It looks like we’ll be able to get out of here sometime tomorrow.

I love sausage and lentil soup!!!  Have a safe and uneventful trip down South.  It'll have warmed up by the time you get here, Deb and Andy!😉

🤢 Does Royal still hand out the motion sickness pills? I know it’s to late for now but I was thinking for next cruise if it’s going to be rough. The ones at home have probably expired. !

I sure hope you're feeling better!  There are many nay-sayers out there, but the Sea bands have always worked for me, especially when we sailed during a hurricane with 20-foot waves.  I don't cruise without it!  Once I start feeling movement on a ship, I immediately put the bands on my wrists.  Works every time!

I'm glad I decided to just post on this thread during the week as opposed to the main board. For some reason this time around I felt like keeping this more among us.  Both the sea and the Caribbean are very special to me. They hold great memories that I will cherish always. I feel very good tonight....

Since we were not in a rush and had to drive only up to Orlando area, we decided to drive via A1A a little bit. WOW those mansions in Palm Beach make the New Port mansions (that I went ga ga over!) to shame.

Welcome back from your cruise.  Glad it was a great one!  Jim and I drove from Naples up to Ft. Lauderdale years ago, and I couldn't get over the many, many changes from when I lived there, one block up from A1A and E Las Olas Blvd.

Friday night, attended the NY Ranger game where they retired Henrik Lundquist #30. For those that do not know hockey, he was the Rangers goalie for 15 years & one of the best goalies in the NHL in recent years.

it was still a memorable night.

How great that you were there to enjoy this special evening!

Thankful you have Nurse Toby😍    How is she feeling?     Did she start that new medicine (I forget the name but it had horrible side effects)?

She went for the Cardiac Cat Scan that my Cardiologist sent her for .She had to wait till this past Tuesday to get the results. She was very nervous until she arrived at his office.Everything was fine.

She has an appointment Feb.7 to discuss Prolia with the doctor who recommended it.

Thanks for asking about her,Debbie.

We ended up with between 6-10 inches of snow in the Hartford area. OB's area supposedly got between 18 & 24".

His ride home on the main roads shouldn't be a problem. Not sure how well the secondary roads near his home are.

We've talked about Buc-ee's here a couple of times.  CBS Sunday Morning did a 6 minute segment on Buc-ee's this morning.

Welcome to Buc-ee's - CBS News

There a couple close to us we pass the one anytime we go to the casino in Oklahoma it’s about 30 mins from here , wife sometimes visits the office in Ft Worth and there is another there, after seeing the cbs show we will stop next time we pass it. People are scared to see my wife in the Ft Worth office since she doesn’t go often but sometimes has to go when someone is terminated.

So low 60's is someone's idea of cold?🤔😯😇

😂 It was all the way down in the 20’s Saturday. 🥶 But warming up to low 60’s early this week.  I have to admit that since I moved south, low 60’s, especially in the summer, is not warm.

Sorry, Lenny, I stopped following Israeli basketball when the teams turned in "imported" only players...

Excellent reason!! I don't think we got to see her/him before...Name?

Do u think u feel like c**p because of seasickness or something you have eaten? Me, I've tried all the "natural" remedies for seasickness, but only the "chemicals" worked wonders for me (Dramamine).

but we really want to go back to induction (no gas lines here).

We don’t have gas lines either.  When we had to replace our last oven we considered running gas lines but decided to try induction.  We have really enjoyed it.  I like how quick it heats up.

She should bring a brisket sandwich with a side of jerky to ease the the pain of being terminated. 😉

Or just bring sandwiches & fudge for everybody for no particular reason and watch their terrified faces of wondering if they are next to be fired turn to joy at the free lunch. 🙂

We considered adding a propane tank and lines, but in the end it was just too much hassle.  I convinced my wife that having an induction range again would be okay. Induction gets one close, or equal to, the same level of control that gas gives.  Plus a smooth glass top is so much easier to clean than a gas cook top.

I would have had to take the tank for refilling myself (like a gas BBQ grill) since there aren't any propane vendors in our area that will service an account that only uses propane for cooking.  The tank would have probably only needed filling once or twice a year, but still...too much hassle.  Plus having the gas lines run, permits, inspections.  Ugh.

Looks like you were rocking and rolling. I love that view in St. Kitts where you can see both the Atlantic and the Caribbean. How did you like Magen's Bay?
