Last weekend, we had our early birthday party for our CA grandson.  His actual birthday is this Thursday, but we would not be around for it. Once again, we rented a large bounce house and slide for the kids.

And I have to tell the story about the balloons that are attached to this canopy.

All the helium balloons came inflated in a large plastic bag. I had tied them to a chair under the canopy, while I was tying the #10 ballon to the post.  That is when Susan looked, and yelled “The balloons are floating away.  The whole bunch of balloons in the plastic bag caught on a branch, about 65 foot up in one of the trees.

So with nothing to reach that high, I came up with my plan.  I got out my bow and arrow, and tied a heavy duty fishing line to the arrow.  With one shot, I sent the arrow through the plastic bag, and was able to pull the whole bunch down from the tree. Not only that, but not a single balloon broke.  My grandson said that was awesome, and Susan was wishing she had filmed it.

Our food porn was just some steak and chicken on the grill.

Our grandson really enjoyed the party, although we had pared down the guest list because of what was going on.

If there are any volunteers for an apple on the head, I can use some practice. 🤣

Those  steaks look really good, might be time for another Texas Roadhouse run.

And in the snail world, did you know that they are cannibals?  Lisa stepped on one today by accident and we saw this a few hours later.

I was today years old.

What kind of snails are those, Andrew? If you know. We tried your chicken dinner recipe, but the rice was still crunchy.

The Wiggles - Australian Childrens performers.  Not sexy but definitely very successful.  The very first concerts for my DD.  They toured America too.

Two of the founders played together in a band when they were in Uni.  Band’s name “The Cockroaches”.  Ugh.

In their defense, Cockroaches do kinda Wiggle!

I caught an episode of The Wiggles at work the other night (I'm a nurse caring for a special needs child).  I was amazed that Anthony from the original cast is still in the group... and how did he get so old while I didn't age a bit over the past 20 years?  LOL

I'm staying with my "surrogate parents" while I'm working in Michigan this month and next month, so I have kitty pictures to share.

Meet Rafter:

She was a stray who hid in the rafters of their garage for months.  When I get home from work in the mornings, she comes and "assumes the position" on the table next to my chair and demands her rubbies.

Today her elbow hit the "massage" button for my chair and I about jumped out of my skin when the chair started vibrating.  I never paid attention to the fact that the chair has a massage function, so I was caught completely off guard!

Her brother Storm isn't as outgoing, so I'm unlikely to get pics of him to share, but she's a little attention <word I probably can't say here> so snapping pics is no problem.

Don’t get me wrong, some days I could throttle her. 🤪 I think she doesn’t realize how good she has it. My brother does basically nothing.  He has seen her once for over the last 6 weeks in the retirement home.  He lives 15 minutes away, and I’m 30 away.

Always seems to be the way that one sibling does more caring when our parents get older.

So Linda went to get dog and cat food and picked up some toys for the pups. One was a chew toy that is made up of some kind rope/straw combo and is not suppose to be harmful if eaten by the dogs. Needless to say Lizzy loved it and destroyed it as you can see. "Honey get out the vacuum cleaner".

It may have been quiet for Lucy but about 2pm Lisa heard the firehall siren go off once and minutes later it went again. Within 5 minutes we heard we heard multiple sirens over an extended period of time. A little bit of time later we started to see more cars on our road, which means something happened on the highway.  About 40 minutes later a medivac chopper flew over our farm. That’s when we knew something big was going on.

I would not be sharing this except for the fact that after being extracted with the jaws of life, the driver walked to the ambulance. After they got into the ambulance, 10 minutes later the air ambulance left and minutes later the regular ambulance departed as well with the driver. Our local tow company was waiting along with two hydro trucks to clear the scene and replace the broken hydro post.

On a side note all of our local fire department crew are volunteers.  When the siren blows at the hall and we hear it from a couple miles away, we know something is going on.

Chopper coming in.

Lisa and Owen went down to see what was happening as the accident was diagonally across the road from one of our farms. The volunteers drive their own cars to the emergency location if they can not get to the hall quick enough to be on the truck.  The come from from their homes or jobs. The Provincial Police had the road shut at each end and traffic detoured around the concession.  Only a few ended up on our road.

Fire crew removed the windshield and did some extra work to the car.  Hydro crews were there to shut the power down for safety.  I have no idea how the pole got broken and there was only one car involved.

You can see the driver being escorted by the fire crew. It is amazing that they walked away.  As I said before I would not be sharing this if the outcome was different. Tomorrow when I drive by I’ll look for skid marks and where they entered the ditch to figure out what happened. It’s a miracle this was not as serious as it could have been.

I was working at the barn within eyesight of the accident.  The far video is mine, to where you see our farm that goes to the highway, and the near is Lisa’s. The traffic is the busiest I have ever seen on our gravel road.

Its amazing how safe modern cars are now. In the UK the powers in their wisdom have decided to do away with the hard shoulder and replace with laybys every mile in the case of breakdown, but of course there's nowhere to safely stop if you're not near a layby.

On the way home from a late shift a few years ago, around midnight, Gary has picked me up and we were on a motorway. Suddenly we came across a car that had stopped in the slow lane

The car behind hadn't noticed in time (dark with no street lights) and flipped right over the stationary car. We of course stopped. There was already other motorists with the elderly couple in the broken-down car so Gary told me to get out and wait on the verge and he went to see how the lady was in the car that flipped. We stayed there till the emergency services arrived and took control but the lady in the car that flipped over the stationary one walked to the ambulance and the elderly couple were badly shaken and on stretcher but generally OK considering.

Bearing in mind this was a motorway where the speeds are 70mph a miracle there wasn't a bigger pile up and more injuries

🙋‍♀️ Me.  I started watching GOT from Season 3 onwards.  My colleague and I would have in-depth discussions at work after each episode.  My office is next to the boardroom and we would get funny looks from the CEO on the rare occasions his meetings weren’t closed door on the day after the episode dropped. Clearly he learnt more about GOT than he ever needed to but it was that type of show that you needed to debrief.
Been enough time since the abysmal GOT final episodes  for me to look forward to this new series.

Today DH preferred to cook an easy meal, which didn't necessitate many side dishes -- a salad and meat lasagna, followed by water melon and the rest of my fudge chocolate cake from the previous WE...

Happy 10th Birthday to Lucas.  Looks like a fabulous day.  That was a very cool solution to the escaping balloons.  No wonder you grandson said it was awesome.  You are one very cool Grandpa.

I am so sorry to read of your daughter’s diagnosis.  My thoughts are with you all as you go through this challenging time.

Clever name for rafter.  Is the massage chair hers?  She certainly makes herself comfortable in prime position next to the controls.  Was Storm discovered in a storm?
