I see three Carnival ships in port at St Martin, and three more RCI ships. That's a lot of activity, with flights arriving from AMS, CDG, and MIA.

I chatted with Ms Bernie, who owns a beverage cart on the beach there in St Maarten, and she was soooooo happy to have the ships there and bringing in some $$. At least some of the ships crew have been able to get off and get some provisions....she's looking forward to the rest of the cruisers getting there! 🙂 Lot's of people are hurting over this....

You actually have four Royal ships down there by you. Lot of activity for Royal between St Martin and Barbados. The rest of the fleet it seems is parked just outside of the bahamas. My Harmony for Nov 1 is in Barbados so I'll be tracking it's movement. Royal has 10 ships scheduled for Nov sailings out of Florida so should be interesting how they all move in the next few days/weeks.

Rhapsody and Independence are drifting not far away. Indy has been in port quite a bit lately.  I would bet they are all taking on crew for a restart.

What needs to be clear here, once RCL will set sail, likely not before December or January, it will be on trial basis and no ones cruise as booked will take place. The closest what you will get are the ones booked on th 3/4 day itinararies to start with.

 

Then RCL will need to have a real plan for let's say Q1 2020 and publish it eventually on cruises that realistically planned to really take place based on a "Itinarary getting us back on track", or whatever marketing name they would think of. This will then also help for people to take decisions regarding rebookings etc and give them the choice in case itinararies don't match due to the limited choice for the time being they an lift and shift for the future.

 

Not to forget that all ships are running at minimum man power at this stage. With all the travel restrictions and training that would need to be done to staff once they reached the ship, completed their quarantine etc we will not see cruises before January and with a miracle a bit earlier. Unless RCL is having some of it's ships fully crewed and they are secretly training them as we speak, but it really does not look like that.

Well, returning to cruising just as flu season hits seems unwise.  Since March there's been talk that the Fall would be bad.  Considering how abysmally we did in the Summer, I can't see people suddenly becoming vigilant.  So the Fall promises to be a challenge already with lots more  infected people, and tests often will give a false negative if administered too soon before exposure.  It seems like it would be difficult to keep infection from sneaking onto a ship and running wild.

There was a post on Facebook earlier today telling of a Royal Caribbean staff (something to do with the theater??) member signing on to a contract. They stated there will 2 weeks in isolation at a hotel, then 2 weeks onboard quarantine, with testing all along.

Sadly, one [possible person on the entertainment staff is hardly indicative of what is happening fleet wide.

Good points.  The ships staff would be challenged when cold and flu passengers start showing up for covid tests.  How do they decide who gets quarantined and when?  And of course crew will also start getting colds and flu...........

The cruise ship industry will be allowed to take to the high seas again beginning Nov. 1, after the Centers for Disease Control and the White House Coronavirus Task Force on COVID-19 reached an agreement to extend the no-sail ban set to expire today.

Just because the CDC will lift the ban on November 1st does not mean the cruiselines will start cruising. Even if they wanted to, logistically at RCL it seems impossible.

 

It's more a call for the cruiselines that as of now they can start planning a gradual restart which doesn't seem realistic before Q1 next year.

If they sail they sail, if some dont want to jump on then dont bother, your choice, as much as it is for others to get on board and enjoy something they like. If they restrict numbers and ports, then that's what it is. If they extend the no sail, we wait further. But so much noise...

Seing cruises start in Asia before the US would not suprise me at all. The awareness of the people is much greater there and also from a logistics point of view much easier. RCL has ships in the region and can bring staff on board without having them to fly from anywhere and even let them do the quarantine on board.

Further NCL cancellations for some ships (Star, Dawn and Spirit). I was sad when I cancelled a December TA from Lisbon to South America on the Star, but it would have been cancelled anyway.

I don't see any way that any ship can be ready to sail November 1 seeing as we are almost at 3 weeks until then.  AND who knows if the CDC will let the ban expire or extend it
