Unvaccinated Passengers Review on Cruise Protocols

Not true according to Royal’s protocol document from July 21st. Vaccinated guests visiting venues that have been designated as “vaccine only” can go  maskless. That would appear to include certain gym hours, certain shows and the casino.

The spa is included in the vaccinated only areas.

BUT, altho "one & done" sounds great, the latest news is that J&J vaccine is going to need a booster sooner than any others.  Throw in the Delta variant ... & the State of Florida winning a case that forbids porting ships to question passengers on their personal medical history (financial penalty), ... it's such a moving target these days in EVERY aspect!  Absolutely nothing's definite!  I'll definitely be distancing, because I wonder what vaccine (from where?) the peeps in the visiting ports have received.  Prolly too paranoid for my own good...

That is not what this case was about... Florida was able to get an injunction in place while the court decides the merits of the case against the CDC. But the case has nothing to do with their vaccine passport law... completely separate issue... NCL is suing about that... and that just was filed. Florida was suing saying that the CDC did not have the authority to essentially close down an industry.. (non lawyers interpretation)... in any event the case has yet to be decided...but for now.. the cruise lines can use CSO as guidance not rules... but they are not likely to do anything different than what the CDC has outlined....so no real changes

I must have missed something on the mixing of vaccine's? WHY are the mixing different vaccine's in the first place? I wouldn't get the vaccine if I had to get 2 different brands of the vaccine! Seem's like a disaster waiting to happen!  JMO

We feel the same way. Have no intentions of doing the mask thing. We have the vision out of San Juan booked for Oct. Have serious doubts it will actually sail but Lord knows Royal isn't gonna tell us. So today we bit the bullet and booked the Mardi Gras for the same week. Royal is our favorite line and San Juan is our favorite departure port but between it being doubtful that vision will actually sail, Royals stance on requiring vaccines, being a port intensive itinerary with undoubtedly lots of different local protocols etc (or even itinerary changes), being able to drive instead of fly, and most of all the face diapers we are at ease with our decision. We will wait it out for the125% if Royal cancels or cancel under CWC if by chance it does go

I just read online today that Puerto Rico is strongly considering not allowing cruise ships due to high increase of covid cases in many places due to delta variant.

Not sure where you see that . Can you provide the info because all I see is the offer to move date one time without penalty on non refundable deposits .

I just booked two weeks ago and restrictions were already in place. My fault for not looking into it more thoroughly

As of right now,  When it gets closer to your actual sail date you will receive an email that provides you with the protocols that will apply to your cruise. This has been received by current passengers within a couple weeks of their sailing date.  At that time if you decide you do not want to sail under those terms you may request a full cash refund.

If you cancel now you will receive a fcc for your $200 deposit.

At least this is how I understand it.

This is correct….plus, if you have any CWC FCC’s used to pay for your cruise, you can get a CASH refund for those in addition to any cash you paid.

That is why we haven't booked airfare yet. Not sailing from San Juan, but Vision was supposed to sail from there before the ship moves to FLL. It is still kind of up in the air for December. :classic_rolleyes::classic_smile:

That is too good to be true. Must be an RC IT glitch. Makes me want to book a cruise to cancel, just to get the FCC funds back. 😁

You're not the first person that has had that idea !!  I guess the only thing that can screw up that plan would be if they change the rules....which is entirely believable.

Actually, Royal's plan to cash out FCCs was confirmed during one of the online Coffee Talks a number of weeks back.  I have NEVER seen this policy in writing anywhere so I was very skeptical that they would actually refund my FCC's.  But when I had to cancel my August 21, 2021 Symphony cruise (we're unvaccinated), I had my TA request full reimbursement of the ~$10K I had used to pay for that cruise (plus another $2K in cash) and she told me that the FCC reimbursement had been approved.  I still haven't gotten the money back in my CC account yet so I will believe it when I see it so I guess we'll have to wait-and-see.

@Ourusualbeach, have you had any success in getting FCC's reimbursed for any of your clients ?

At this point, unvaccinated people who want to cruise the way they did before the pandemic hit are unfortunately left with only two viable choices:

1) Get vaccinated, or

2) Don't cruise until all of the virus variants have petered out.

There is no number three.

I haven't had anyone in that position.  The one thing I will caution people on is that if they book and the rules are already in place then a refund would be a no go.  It would need to be something that was booked and then the rules changed.

Thanks. The most clear answer to what appears to be a "Non published" policy. (unless I missed it somewhere)

@Ourusualbeach I know someone asked about FCC's..... but are you seeing full refunds being available to mixed/outside 42 days/all the other "hot topic" situations right now?

I haven't seen any however that would be a change in policy from when it was booked.

Don't forget that protocols are only published for July and August, maybe September so anything beyond that you wont be able to get a refund

I believe Carnival posted that only vaccinated people will be allowed off ship in PR.

I am fully vaccinated but not recognized by the CDC because I’m mixed. My immunity towards the virus is maybe even better than most  people with Pfizer or Moderna. So I’ll probably cruise as an unvaccinated passenger with all the protocols because I want to cruise just like the rest of you.

You can cancel and get a full refund and then book with Carnival.  If you are unhappy with your decision to cruise with Royal I can't imagine any other decision.

But it’s a FCC not a refund that one could book another cruise with correct?  Or am I reading the CWC wording wrong?

No they stated that when they release the protocols for the a particular batch of cruises, if you aren't happy with them or unable to comply refunds will be offered.
