Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Wishing everyone who celebrates, a Happy Diwali!  I grew up on bologna, and still enjoy having it in a sandwich from time to time;  DH doesn't care for it, so I buy a small package and enjoy every slice, but it has to be on white bread with a bit of Miracle Whip on one side and ketchup on the other.  Thankful for the United Nations.

Well it's dark and white out there this morning - we did get snow late last night and through the night, but nothing like what other parts of the province had.  One location reported 18 inches from 6AM to 9PM.  Power was out in many areas and one trucker reported taking 8 hours to drive a major highway between our city the the capital that should have only taken 2.5.    Glad we don't have to go anywhere today, as the temp is going to be above freezing, so what we did get should melt by noon, hopefully.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Lenda, I'm sending good vibes to your DH and his medical team for a successful surgery and for you to get some much needed rest while he is in hospital.

@kazu Jacqui, you are such a treasure to your good friend, being there for her in her time of need.  Don't exhaust yourself trying to complete all the things on your list; you don't want to spend the first few days of your cruise in bed, recuperating!

@summer slope you lost me at "Serves 8".   LOL

@Overhead FredHappy Birthday to you with many returns of the day!

I like today's menu suggestion; it sounds similar to the way I prepare salmon, and never thought about using it on chicken.  Our "almost daughter" Sophia came over yesterday to wish us a good trip (she knows we're trying to limit our public interactions over the next week), and she brought with her, her father's great spicy noodle dish.  Can that man cook !!!   We'll be enjoying Papa Li's spicy noodles with beef at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is hurting, especially the people of Ukraine who are enduring more than anyone ever should, and cheers for those who have something to celebrate.  Stay safe, everyone!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Thank you Roy, thank you Rich, thank you Debbie, and thank you Dixie. And thank you all for being here!

Hello from the Tyrrhenian Sea, about 2/3rds of the way to Syracusa, Sicily. Leaving Genoa Saturday the ship played Andrea Bocelli's "Time to Say Goodbye." Such a romantic way to start the cruise. Sue and I are really enjoying ourselves with the crew providing all the luxuries of YC on the Splendida. We have finally figured out the route from our cabin on 15 Forward to our dining room on 15 Aft. It is a much larger ship than we are used to! The Oosterdam though will feel like a familiar cuddly blanket come November 5! Tomorrow we have an 8-hour excursion which leaves at 7:30 so setting the alarm. It seems that we may be the only Americans onboard with mostly French and Italian passengers. The crew enjoys having us as we seem to be a novelty to them.

Lenda, thinking of you and Steve.

- Jack

Good Monday Dailyites, a quick note before I go out and get a vacuum.  I too believe bologna should be on white bread, with lettuce, some sliced sweet pickles, and mayo.  I had a friend who's mom, would put a piece of bologna in a cup cake tray cup, drop in an egg, and bake them, until the egg was well done.

And she would make bologna salad, cut up the bologna with sweet pickle and some pimento and shredded cheese with Mayo and serve it in a hot dog bun.

@Quartzsite Cruiser I hope that everything goes well for you and your DH today.

My computer doesn't want to wake up today. I hope my post doesn't go poof.

Happy Birthday Fred!

Today is our 31st Wedding anniversary. We are having friends over tonight for Game night, food and lot's of wine...

It was due to rain last night but forecast moved to this afternoon. It's a beautiful morning. I counted 9 cardinal's around the feeders.

Jacqui you are a "dam" good friend and neighbor. Your kindness and generosity shows through, even all your work on roll calls and Bon Voyages. You are loved and appreciated.

Prayers for Lenda and (Steve?) today.

Prayers lifted for Mexico with hurricane Roslyn damages and loss of life. We are under storm watches here as well just posted a few minutes ago.

Wishing everyone a great week. We have Daily appointments. Dentist, check ups, eye exams..

Thank you! According to the government issued self-tests we have both taken, we are both still testing positive. We do a more thorough swab than the technician did the day she declared my test to be negative.

We have arrived in Vancouver, but we need to wait in the room until someone from the ship comes to escort us to the terminal. They have ordered a taxi for us with an extra Covid cleaning fee to get us to our car at the hotel. We plan to drive home to Skykomish today and continue isolating there until we both have legitimate negative tests. We have friends that have offered to shop for us.

Both DW and I feel good enough that we would have gone to work back during our teacher days.

Good morning from a gloomy, wet central Texas.  This will be quick since it's getting close to time to call 911 to get the EMTs to get DH in the car.  I'll read the Daily and do a more detailed post while I'm waiting for the surgery to finish and DH to get out of recovery.

I do want to thank everyone who wished both of us well today.  It means a lot.

This is what I posted on July3, 2021 about our day in Darwin.

Darwin was a port on our 2002 Volendam Asia Pacific Explorer Cruise.  We were there on October 30, and the hot, humid season had not started then.  We did not look at the town, but as per our usual port day, we rented a car and explored the surrounding area.

Giant termite mounds were along the highway.  DH, who is 6'1" stood next to it, and it towered over his head.

IMG_1814.thumb.JPG.fea80d72cc3af07604dfc8cd80b798a3.JPG

Our first stop was a nature/animal preserve, that could have been in one of the national parks near Darwin.  These are some of the local residents.

IMG_1843.thumb.JPG.781a64fa21b4ac6183019ad416e6d8e9.JPG

On the way back to Darwin, we detoured to take a river cruise to see the jumping crocodiles.  I'll repost the picture of the croc.

IMG_1854.thumb.JPG.e0d6bb5b0ece6dd8489a6e91be87c6aa.JPG

Our final stop that day was the Mindil Beach Sunset Market.  It was the last night of the market until the next April.  There were all types of crafts, clothing, food, and even didgeridoos for sale.  As we walked around, we sampled kangaroo (which isn't bad, but does not taste like chicken) and crocodile, which tastes somewhat like alligator.  DH bought a didgeridoo, which the vendor promised he'd ship to our house in Texas, since we couldn't haul it back on the plane.  DH's comment when we left, was that we may have wasted our money.  When we walked in the house after the cruise, the didgeridoo was on the couch.  Let's just say, he can make a noise with it.

A few scenes of the sunset market.

A local band to entertain the shoppers.

Another local group to enjoy as we reboarded the Volendam.

IMG_1869.thumb.JPG.163a93f37e5acd18e5f43addbb3cf0d4.JPG

At dinner that night, kangaroo was on the menu.  No one wanted to order it, but after we told them we'd tasted it at the market, the table decided to order one kangaroo dinner and share it between the six of us.

The cruise was during the time the LA port locked the longshoremen out, so the Volendam could not get the containers of food that were sitting on the LA dock shipped to the various ports.  The HD, F&B manager, and executive chef went shopping in most of our ports around Asia and Australia.  We had good, and interesting things show up on the menu.  We heard that our food did not go to waste, but went to the Veendam.

Upon our arrival in LA the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the longshoremen were working, but were protesting the lockout by unloading the ship one piece of luggage at a time by hand.  We could not get off the ship until well after 1 pm., so the executive chef and the Lido cooks quickly fixed a modified lunch for everyone.  Needless to say, just about all the passengers missed their flights.  We did get out that day, as the ticket agent at LAX did not want extra passengers the next day.  Oh. the adventures of travelling are not for the faint of heart, but do make travelling interesting.

Good morning!

Nothing new on DH at the moment. He has an upbeat attitude, liked watching the Seahawks yesterday, and is eating well (maybe a bit too well). I'm hoping to find out mid-week, in a Care Conference, what the plan is and a possible release date.

I grew up in a suburb of Vancouver, BC. In 1963 we drove across Canada to Toronto to see/meet shirttail family (I turned 10 between Medicine Hat, Alberta and Portage La Prairie Manitoba), My dad was stationed in Orillia, Ontario during WWII. Anyway, we did the trip again in 1972 and my mother fed us bologna and mustard sandwiches every travel day both directions. I rarely eat bologna even to this day!

It's raining quite steadily and I need to get moving. Water aerobics today (2 classes) and then the afternoon sitting with DH and working on needlework.

Enjoying our last full day in Lisbon between our NCL Star cruise (nice stops in Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal) and boarding Oceania’s Sirena for our cruise to Florida. Pleasantly surprised with NCL’s food, service and best end of cruise excursion that took us from the ship to stops in London and finally to Heathrow. We stayed on for three days in England and traveled by Tube for long walks in London, visits to museums and Westminster Abbey. After nearly a week in Lisbon (and a bulging suitcase of laundry), we are ready to be back onboard & on the water!  Missed a few days of reading The Daily, am sending prayers to those in need and thanks to all who add their posts filled with pictures, recipes and news.

I got a text from my goddaughter Lisa with a stack of new photos of her grandbaby, Ellie.  She is in seventh heaven getting to spend time with the little family every weekend (and probably in between too).  Here's a cute one of Ellie and her Daddy.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKAzDmFb8UPxjYFFBx-k7WgaAUrgnwgvQnZ_1RWb7NZPA?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1666622842

In other news, tomorrow morning DH and I go back to the dentist to get our permanent crowns done (1 each).  So much fun and so many $$$!!!

Strange that your own tests show you as positive, but what are ya gonna do?  I appreciate that HAL is helping get you to your car separate from the maddening crowds departing today.  Some cruise lines would probably just cut you lose and say good riddance to the Covid people!  It's good you have a plan once home to isolate until free of the virus completely, and friends who can help with the shopping.  Take care!

Our first stop was a nature/animal preserve, that could have been in one of the national parks near Darwin.  These are some of the local residents.

On the way back to Darwin, we detoured to take a river cruise to see the jumping crocodiles.  I'll repost the picture of the croc.

Lenda

Lenda,  sending my best wishes and prayers for Steve and you today.  Sounds like you have everything under control and I'm sure you will keep us updated.  Take care!

Also want to say thanks for your photos today.  There's lots of interesting things to do around Darwin.  I enjoyed seeing your take on it.

Karen

Nice to hear all is well with DH right now.  Your story about bologna (or good old baloney as many of us like to spell it) reminds me of my childhood.  We weren't well off and eating out was something we rarely did.  But if we were in the car driving from visiting relatives out in the country, sometimes Mom would run into a market and buy a loaf of white bread and some bologna and hand out plain sandwiches in the car for lunch.  Somehow those sandwiches tasted so good on that fresh white bread!  Or maybe it was because we were eating OUT!😁

Thanks for checking in between cruises.  Looks like a beautiful day over there.  Enjoy the rest of your trip and be sure to check in with photos later.

Good morning friends!  We had a warmer morning at 44F so we got up and walked outside today, our usual 2.5 miles.  It was so darn dark!  We noticed we don't hear the rooster crow in the morning anymore and hope nothing has happened to it.  Perhaps it's too dark for him to wake up!!

Thank you Rich @richwmnfor the Daily and Fleet Report.  I used to eat bologna sandwiches a lot when younger, but haven't had one in many years.  Never heard of Diwali Day but cheers to those celebrating it.  The United Nations could use more international funding so good luck to them.  That is quite a quote this morning.  Hope never to be stabbed front or back by anyone, friend or foe.  The dijon chicken sounds unique so will check out the recipe.  Thank you to Roy @rafinmdfor the long lists today.  Prayers are being said today for all on the list, especially Lenda's DH @Quartzsite Cruiser.  We're hoping for good news on that later on.  Prayers also for my neighbor Linda who is not yet home from the hospital/rehab.  Roy, I think Beverly can come off the list since they have held her memorial service.  She will remain in our hearts and prayers however, as well as her DH who is also our dear friend.  Prayers in addition to the people of Ukraine and those who are picking up the pieces literally after Ian and Fiona.  A shout out to those on the Celebration list!  Hope everyone enjoys their happy events and most of all their cruises!  And Jacqui @kazulove the memes today.  Hope you get some things checked off your list today.  That's always a good feeling.

The port destination is Darwin, Australia which was posted here on July 3, 2021.  Here is the link to that date for all who need to retrieve their photos.  Mine are shown  below the link.

If you don't like heat and humidity, be glad that you haven't been to Darwin!  I was there twice, in Nov. of 2013 on Diamond Princess and in October of 2017 on Sun Princess.  And even though I hate heat and humidity I'm not sorry I was there because I love seeing Australia.

When you arrive in Darwin, you walk off the ship and head through a parklike area towards an ELEVATOR so that you can head into the downtown area.  Yes, an elevator.  It's a very unique place. enhance

We also walked near the Parliament buildingenhance

When we reached the downtown area, we noticed the overhead sun protection and misting stations to keep people comfortable while they shopped.  Something I haven't seen too often in my travels.enhance

I don't suppose they'd mind if you slipped off your shoes and cooled your feet in this spot.enhance

You could even learn a little history if you took the time to read this bronze plaque.enhance

By this time we were ready to retrace our steps and enter the cool air conditioned interior of our cruise ship.  Even with their tropical climate, I am willing to visit the capital of the Northern Territory anytime!!

Fascinating photos Sandi.

Thank you for posting them.

Graham.

Hello everyone,

I keep thinking that things will be going back to some semblance of normal, but that is a myth.

This will be quick.

Yesterday was spent moving stuff from our house to the apartment.  Stuff like computer, printer and food and other necessities.  To add insult to injury, our internet provider has informed us that they are dropping their email service.  So now I have to get a new email and inform everyone and all businesses we use of our new email by the end of November. Lots of work.  It will go poof on Dec. 1.

Not a lot of time.

Today we are on our way to Jacksonville.  I have to have an EMG on both arms to determine if I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both hands.  I was thinking of having the surgery while waiting for the house to get done, but with this email thing, I don’t know if I can take that time to have the surgery right now.

Don’t have time to write more now.  Have to pack and get moving.

Tests and consultation is tomorrow at the Mayo.

Will post when I can.

God Bless,

Terri

Good luck with your tests tomorrow Terri.

Sending you our love.

G&P.
