Ever had a MOSQUITO in your cabin?

Seeing as I live where I live, I am well familiar with everything-mosquitoes!

We LOL in surprise when we found we had one in our Deck 2 Interior cabin!

How on earth did s/he make it all the way down there?
- and did s/he pass the Doink! machine, on the way in?

I think we told the cabin steward, and he sprayed the cabin for us

Has anyone else discovered critters in their cabins? Mosquitoes or otherwise?

We found a dead spider (it was FREAKING HUGE!!!) in our cabin on Sensation... my friend & I scoured every inch of that cabin to make sure none of its family showed up for the funeral! Fortunately it was a loner!

Our cabin steward told us it likely hitched a ride onboard with the pallets of food they bring on each week. EWWW!

Here's some folks who had Love Bug problems last week

A little off topic, but love bugs have been terrible in Florida the last several weeks.  When I was driving home from Miami from a cruise two weeks ago, I had to stop to wash the front windshield because it was getting to the point I was having trouble seeing thru all the dead bugs on the windshield. Fortunately the problem has gotten significantly better the last few days, at least in the Tampa area.

If you cruise from Florida in May or October you may encounter Love Bugs .

Harmless little guys that seem to hang out on the Florida highways more than the ports.

This May has been the worse we have seen in several years . Front of vehicles and windshields are their grave yards.

Thankfully, I have never found a bug in any of my cabins, both interior and balcony.

The only living creature I saw

was a bird on our balcony when we were nowhere near land.

.

Yes, your bird was probably taking a much-needed break from all that flying.

Quite often I've noticed birds around the ship

often taking advantage of the lee created by fwd. superstructure

usually Swallows and Swifts, I think.

The only time we noticed flying insects was in the Panama Canal....you're there for quite a while, and bugs are RAMPANT.....just opening balcony doors to go in and out was an invitation to them.  We never called for spraying...we simply smashed any we saw.

Most bugs including mozzies don't like air-con, so until they figure how to switch it off (I haven't yet, but they might be brighter than me :classic_rolleyes:), your cabin is pretty safe.

If you want properly BIG bugs, take a cruise up the Amazon - they're huge, up to about 6 inches. Doors to decks that are normally left open are closed for the duration.

And after leaving the Amazon they're still hanging around the decks for a few days out at sea.

We've had beetles in our balcony cabins on many cruises.

There is always a group of them.

They're no bother and they always sound pretty good.

I think they were the British type.

How they invaded the cruise ships is a mystery to me.

We made the mistake of leaving our balcony door open with the lights on inside during an evening stay at, I think it was, Cabo San Lucas.  A small swarm of black beetles invited themselves in and one bit my husband on his bare butt.  They were quickly dispatched to bug heaven.

A BAT???

Bats freak me out when(rarely) one gets into the house

seeing as I'm the "pest control officer" around here.....

Horrible things.

Was it perhaps a Magical Mystery Cruise?

I think it might have been.

They had a good band on that cruise.

Dr. Bell, or Dr. Jalapeno, or something like that.

It was a bit lonely sailing solo.

I recall the rubber soul of my shoes  squeaked a lot on the dance floor.

With a little help from your friends while cruising in the yellow submarine.

A bit off-topic of course but...

the cats dragged this poor lil fella into the house...dead..

Turns out it's the smallest species of snake in the world

- they grow no larger than about 6 ins. -this guy was 5 ins. laid straight out!

Totally harmless .. 'Flower Pot Snake' it's called

because if/when you are ever lucky enough to see one, over the course of your life

it likely will be when you move a flower pot that's been standing there for awhile.

* There's a sub-sp. in other S.Carib. islands like St. Lucia and Martinique

each island has their own special Smallest Snake in The World.

Luckily, these will not fly into your balcony cabin

if you leave the door open
