Embarrassed as all get-out to ask, but . . .

I just use my innate sense of direction that all men have...

and then I wait for my wife to tell me I'm going the wrong way

I just let my wife lead since she is always right.  I then go the other way since she is right at going the wrong way!

I got turned around on NCL even with the fish 😵  I just build my wandering time into my schedule.

This is me. I am completely useless at navigation. At least I'm not in denial, right?? 😄

I always try to book our cabin mid-ship...near the glass elevators.  I orient myself the first day as to which direction our cabin is in when I get off the glass elevators.  After the first day, it's easy to find.

I used to sort of do the same, but the Vista class ships don't have glass elevators or full height atriums, so now I'll be messed up on our next cruise!

An easy solution to both @3redheads and @permanentlyengaged's problem, the cabin numbers decrease going forward, and increase going aft.

Thank you for that tip! I'm always headed the wrong direction, even after 33 times on Carnival!! Now, if I can just remember which way increases and which way decrease!!😂

For the times when I step out of my cabin and go the wrong way, my course of action depends on whether or not the hallway is empty. If there's no one around, I'll do an about face. If there's someone who'll see me, I'll more than likely just go to the next elevator bay and backtrack later. Anyone else do this or is it just me? I feel like a fool when someone sees me turn around and go the other way. I've seen plenty of people who stop, look both ways, then realize they're going the wrong way and turn around. I know what it looks like and I don't want to be that person. LOL

It truly is a great little tid bit! I’ve saved it to my running list! I’m really terrible with navigation!

I had problems when I left the casino, not because I had been drinking, but because there were few references as to direction until you actually leave the casino.  Many times I ended up by the main pool, not the aft bar.  Also would get 15 or 20 steps into my trek, then make a hard U turn.  Have had to apologize for my change of direction without signaling first.  But, I always ended up where I was headed.😤

With all the cruises under my belt, it's embarrassing to admit that, when I get out of an elevator on a ship, I sometimes can't tell if forward is to my right or left. I know the weekdays are indicated on the floors, but is there some secret arrow that points forward? Many's the time I've walked a good distance in the wrong direction & had to backtrack.

I know the weekdays are indicated on the floors

I can't figure out what this means.

I do this with myself.  My internal compass is so dependably 180 degrees backward, I've learned how to put it to use.  When I'm not sure which way to go, I go the opposite way I think I should, and that turns out to be the way I should go.

This is me in a nutshell.  DH always lets me go down the stairs one step ahead of him, or get off the elevator first.  At first I thought it was just politeness and manly manners.  Then I realized he would be turning the opposite way I was going, and he was always correct.  It has now become a family joke - "whichever way mom is going, go the other way."

On RCCL, the elevators have a rectangular carpet insert that has the day of the week on it.  Really cool till you get to the last couple of days of the cruise.  Then it's just a sad reminder 😢

Exactly! I loved it, 'till I realized how fast the days were going by!

Before you get on the elevator, think about which direction you came from. Example: If you're in the main elevator lobby  on the Promenade deck. which is right off of the Atrium, you're near the front end of the ship. If you're heading to your cabin, once you've reached the deck where your cabin is located,  turn either right or left. and look at the signs on the wall that have cabin numbers and arrows pointing left and right. If the numbers are even numbers and you have an odd numbered cabin (for example), just turn around and go to the other side. As PhillyFan33579 pointed out,  the cabin numbers decrease going forward, and increase going aft. It's really not that difficult to find your way around.

Excuse moi?

As you walk towards the front of the ship, the cabin numbers get lower (-- - - 6, - - - 5, - - - 4, - - - 3, etc.) As you walk towards the back of the ship, the cabin numbers get higher ( - - - 3, - - - 4, - - - 5, - - - 6, etc.) Got it?

Oh I got it, as I was the one who suggested this originally. You had credited the wrong poster.
