Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Recommended Posts

Getting ready for the Iicon cruise tomorrow.

Hair cut and highlights ✔️ . Note to self, never try a new person before a vacation.

Nails done ✔️

Knee injection ✔️ 😖

I asked the dr how long the needle was and he said about an inch. There's no way this was only an inch. It's got to be at least 2 imo. Oh, and the pressure from the single dose injection. Ouch! It definitely looks smaller in the picture.

@Ocean Boy what do you think?

Looks like a 2 inch maybe 16 guage needle attached to a 1 CC syringe. Whether he stuck all 2 inches in I cannot say.

Looking forward to your thoughts. I only did AI once in Punta Cana, back in 2007 for 10 days. Which is 3-5 days to long according to my AI friends. Colonial Manor which was a beautiful resort in the mid-price range but I started to get cabin fever by day 6. Casino was a joke & shows were nit-n-miss. The activities staff (aka cruise directors) did their best to make the beach games fun. Drinks were weak & food was just ok.

We did a Punta Cana Hard Rock resort about ten years ago , went to a black tie charity dinner , I thought we should bid on something so we bid on this resort at about half the listed price, was really surprised this was one of the few things that has just one bid . Resort was nice had a huge 1800 sq Ft suite but resort food wasn’t as good as sandals. Best thing was winning about a grand in casino on last day . Worst thing was only live music was karaoke.

I feel like I just won the Golden Ticket, like Charlie Bucket in Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.

We just got our GTY room assignment for the Icon Maiden Voyage that is in just 3 days!  We were not sure if we were even going to get a room and were ready to receive whatever assignment they’d give us on boarding day but it came through.  We reserved Interior Gty but they upgraded us to an OV Deck 10 Front smack Center.  So, that is a plus there.  I am so excited to just be going on the ship.  What kind of cabin we get is not important to DH and me.  We won’t be spending much time in there anyway as we will be spending most of every minute of the day checking everything out on the ship.  After all, it is only a 7-day cruise.  Can’t waste a minute.

I don’t want to duplicate postings so I will share my pictures, thoughts and comments on the Live Icon thread.  See you there!

That’s good you got a nice surprise.

He did say he didn’t stick it all the way in, but still. Ouch!

Are you going to the Alumni game on Sunday ?

I am not. But they did show your good friend Stephane Matteau on the big screen last night so he was at the game. He should have suited up, another lop-sided loss by the Rangers 5-2. 😖

I guess I was expecting a "cruise ship on land" type experience which isn't really fair.  It was also one of the few times I did minimal research & pcked the resort based on the recommendation of a co-worker. BTW, I had the name of the resort wrong, it was "Majestic Colonial" with her sister property, the adults only "Majestic Excellence" next door that had an up-graded experience - better shows, better selection of restaurants.   That's probably the one I should have picked.

And based on many conversations with different people over the years, Sandals & Iberostar are the resorts your can't go wrong with.

@h20skibum  Mark, I've used this company and recommended it to various CC friends along the year, all were very appreciative. Don't know about your airport, though, but I'm attaching their link, worth checking with them.

Jiffy Jeff

Thank you, Dani.  That looks like a very nice service, but it doesn’t look like that airport to port.  I may have to give them a call.  Lots of time to find one before August.

Mark, check out Gear Fusion.  My daughter and SIL use them regularly and based on her recommendation we used them last August when we cruised with our grandsons.  They have Suburbans which should be able to accommodate your family.

That looks like a possibility.  A Suburban would fit our crew and bags.  I still want to look into a stretch limo, because the grandkids would get a kick out of it.  I did that on one cruise we sailed out of New Orleans where we had six adults and a lot of bags.  Not sure how many bags we will have this trip, because we are staying a week after the cruise.

I may want to get some tips from you on Disney.  Our daughter and her family rented a beach house for the week after the cruise, and Susan and I plan to take our California grandson back to Universal and maybe do a couple days at Disney parks.  Likely we will stay at Portofino again, because we liked it so much.  It has been years since we have been to Disney, and things have changed a lot since then.

Yes, Bon Voyage @ReneeFLL, @Ozark_Kid

@FromSea2ShiningSea as well as @Ourusualbeach already onboard!

+ 1.  Have a great cruise on the new ship.

I would be interested in your opinions of the Aquadome.  From the video I saw, it looks like a nice place, but it it looked like a limited capacity for the show and the sight lines did not look good.  Maybe that was because it was filmed from near the back, but performers would disappear from view when they got near the front.

@h20skibumWe used them to get from ft Lauderdale Airport to Miami hotel. Then next day from hotel to Miami Port. Sorry it was last January for our b2b on Disney. They picked us up at Miami Port and then to Ft Lauderdale Airport. No issues on time and very reliable.

Looking forward to seeing Judy Collins in concert tonight, we have excellent seats , even though it’s a short drive we will stay at a hotel which is across the street .

I love Judy Collins. My mom had all her albums and played them all the time. I grew up always hearing her music. Enjoy!

I have read great reviews of Jiffy Jeff via all cruise critic members. This was some years ago. At that time they were not servicing the Orlando or Central Florida area: only the Port Everglades, Port of Miami and Palm Beach area. I am not aware if they have expanded their business to other Florida areas now, but yes they were excellent.

We had booked them then, and our flight from Newark to Miami was cancelled. No bad weather or anything, but the cockpit windshield got cracked when landing at Newark. First they tried to send another plane, which also had some issues so they cancelled the flight. Jet Blue then routed us to Orlando via the 9 pm flight. We had a buffer day between flying and embarkation day. Jeff was in constant touch with us all day. We asked if they could pick us up from MCO and take us to Miami. They did not service the Orlando area and so we had to cancel. He had suggested renting a car from MCO and driving to Miami. We did that and dropped the car off at our Miami hotel.
Point is great company. If they meet your needs, consider them!

I'll be interested to hear from you on how her voice is holding up at 84 yo. Where is the concert?

I watched her in a YouTube from just a couple of years ago and she sounded good. I have always wanted to see her , concert is in Eisemann center which seats 1600. We have 3rd row seats.

Pretty sure I need this done.  I’ve been told I don’t need it replaced but under my knee cap the cushion is all gone.  It doesn’t look pleasant.

I had to have more skin cancer cut out of my face in December.  My plastic surgeon likes to inject steroids into the scar line and scar tissue.  So that was Thursday and no it wasn’t fun especially when it’s in a tender area.

Thank you Dani! Yes I’ve been more of a hermit lately and trying to not get too discouraged. I promise to be better and be more active. Just going through a tough time right now.

I'm sorry to hear your new knee is causing you a lot of discomfort Greg.
