Empehi Posted February 7, 2021 #153 Share Posted February 7, 2021 These rules are ridiculous. They will destroy the cruise industry. We would all be better off watching re-runs of LOVE BOAT. And here is the kicker .... those who cruise when it starts up again will be paying more for a much less enjoyable experience. And for those that think the vaccine will be the answer ... the CDC already has mandated mask wearing on all forms of transportation after one gets the vaccine .... so that isn't the answer either. As long as the CDC wants 100% COVID free cruising .... we should all better be prepared for these rules well into the future. 1

As people are already doing when they visit Disneyworld. Limited capacity, longer wait times for rides , fewer restaurants open, hotels more expensive, masks required. And yet people are going, as I am sure they will when cruising re-opens.
Rare KmomChicago Posted February 7, 2021 #155 Share Posted February 7, 2021 (edited) Like a few others, I am perfectly fine with all of these requirements. I am not surprised by any of them as it's been clear from the Euro cruises that have successfully restarted under these conditions, that we would be doing much the same. I hope these precautions mean that #1 we get to actually take the cruise we have booked in August and #2 we get to actually get on the return flight home afterward. Also, #3 we don't catch Covid or have an outbreak on our (or any) sailing. I understand people like different things and make different decisions and I get that lots and lots and lots of people don't like this at all. And that those people may not cruise because of this. Yes. That makes sense. Additionally, my whole family intends to get the vaccine as soon as possible. The 3 adults in our home are all Phase 1B and on lists to get it this month, we hope, and the one teenager has signed up for the Moderna Pediatric trial which should be starting in the next few weeks with a 50/50 chance of receiving the vaccine or a placebo. By now maybe you can tell which one we and the teenager are hoping for, but either way, glad to be helping to make this available for younger populations. My father has already received both doses through the VA and my stepmom has received the first dose. They are booked to travel with us on the August cruise. I won't be surprised if the vaccine becomes a requirement in addition to all of this, once it has become available to most people and my biggest worry at this point is that kids won't be able to cruise if they don't get the vaccine that is not yet available to them. Kudos to your son for joining the Moderna Pediatric trial! I love reading about responsible young people since the news media puts so little out there which is a positive fro this age group. My granddaughters are just turned teen and preteens, so I am concerned as well that we will not be able to cruise on a family trip in 2022. Since we have no say, and I abide by the rules, we will face that issue when it comes. My DSD has medical reasons, and MS and cannot have the vaccine and so there will not be a cruise in her future both for safety reasons and even if there is a waiver at some point. Our family is fine with following the conditions so we can slowly return to cruise vacations.

We just got back from a week down there last month and it was cheaper than normal for hotels, still had all the food options we wanted, and the lines might appear longer, it is just because of the 6ft rule for lines so the longest we waited was 20 minutes for a ride 2

So can I ask are covid tests just for holiday purposes, when you show no symptoms free in the US - In the UK thay are about £100 per person per test. That is another 10% on a £1000 cruise and when having to pay for an excursion in order to get off the ship is a lot of extra outlay for a family to pay. I stayed near there. I took a hotel on i95 with arrows to orlando just because it was cheaper. I was inspecting a condo, not pure vacation, but was lovely weather. Great to just not be cold. I was surprised at that post about hotels being higher. I spent 4 nights in hotels. Great deals for high season in florida. I just hope the condo purchase goes thru this next week or so. Djptcp Posted February 8, 2021 #166 Share Posted February 8, 2021 I'm extremely disappointed there is no mandatory vaccination proof! I hope that changes or we will cancel our Jan. 2022 cruise despite it was all paid for with future cruise credits from 4 cancelled cruises. Hopefully, it will change and vaccinations will be required. I also hate that reservations might be needed to go to the casinos! That is why we go on these cruises and how we get such cheap rates. Why can't they handle it like the land casinos do that we have experienced. Shut off every other slot machine and take away their chairs, have disinfectant wipe stations all around the casino, and not allow people to congregate around the tables or behind slot machines. This will be a deal breaker.

We have cancelled and re-booked Disneyworld (Contemporary) 4x now since the pandemic hit, and each time had to pay more for our reservation. Have another for 5/1, which I am sure we will have to cancel again, as we are not going anywhere until vaccinated. Reading on the Disney boards I can say that most of the posts say higher prices for less services (rooms being cleaned every few days instead of daily for example, less food choices, less busses and monorail running at lower capacity which makes for longer waits) and less "stuff" to do - shows not being on, fireworks, etc. I am sure cruising will have some of the same restrictions when it resumes. FiremedicMike151 Posted February 8, 2021 #168 Share Posted February 8, 2021 So the real question is: Will carnival work with you if you have a cruise booked but don't want to cruise under those conditions? I'm fine with just transferring the funds to a new cruise, but would be pretty upset if they would tell me I lose my OBC and deposit..

I'm fine with just transferring the funds to a new cruise, but would be pretty upset if they would tell me I lose my OBC and deposit.. that's my question. I think that we should be able to opt out and receive a refund or move cruise. I have a cruise booked last July for this September on the Vista. At that time there were no vaccines. There were a lot of rumors of what would occur but nothing concrete. Flash forward to now where I have both doses of vaccine. My husband is scheduled for April. We have already been on a few land vacations. We will absolutely not spend thousands on a trip where we are treated like children and stay with the group like sheep during excursions. I like the ability to go to the gym or on a pool deck onboard when I feel like it. The masks are one thing. The excursions are something else. I dont understand why the ship can say it isnt safe for you and you must use ship excursions only. The irony is they HIRE the local tour companies for these excursions. And pay them terrible prices. So its safer to use company A through the ship rather then Company A on your own. This just is not what I signed up for last July. I have had fun exploring our country and have an upcoming trip to Cozumel at an AI. Yes there are restrictions but the difference of personal freedom and trust is so much better than these rules. I suppose if I had a suite I wouldn't care as much and if I was the type who just went for the ship experience it wouldn't bother me but this is equivalent to a 4th grade field trip to a dairy farm.
florida eagle Posted February 8, 2021 #170 Share Posted February 8, 2021 We all like cruises. Cruises are humans concentrated in a smaller area. There are people with dubious hygiene practices before the virus. The vaccines came quickly. With no liability to the pharma companies. This is the first time in human history where mRNA is rewritten in our systems with the vaccine. If we go on a cruise, pandemic practices must be minimized in some ways as well as practiced in others. We are having fun. Not being in a prison. Spray the cabins. Spray the hallways. Spray the open areas around the people. Lido deck and open areas no mask enforcement, leaving it up to the passenger while having all passengers holding a mask on their personal belongings. Bathrooms be careful and set the system up with all the precautions needed. Indoor public spaces using sense and not stupidity. Again, spraying the areas in a constant way without aggravating the passenger. Dinging rooms with less enforcements. Elevators to have attention paid to. The big thing is sanitizing sprays. Sprays that do not make passengers sick also. Just an idea. 3

LeeW Posted February 8, 2021 #172 Share Posted February 8, 2021 The new rules make it certain we won't sail Carnival (or other lines that go this extreme). And we are shareholders. Lots of "denied boarding with no refund" in them. Just got back from trip to Florida that replaced a Disney B2B2B. Worked fine both in beach area and in Orlando. Would highly recommend Discovery Cove package with Sea World/Aquatica 14 day access. Restrictions are easy to comply with and you can even eat in restaurants in Florida.
jsglow Posted February 8, 2021 #173 Share Posted February 8, 2021 So I think we all need to remember that this is February '21 when vaccines are just rolling out. Of course at present we all still have the responsibility to help protect the 95% of us that aren't vaccinated. A year from now is a completely different kettle of fish. The marketplace will dictate 'reasonable' precautions. Or the ballot box for that matter should the hand of government remain too intrusive.
