For me, it is not just about the mask.   I interpret a mask requirement as an indication that a potentially deadly virus is circulating around the world.   It's the related restrictions and requirements that could make cruising unappealing to me - cruise line or port restrictions on activities in the ports, covid tests before returning to the U.S. or even before being allowed to re-board in port, with the risk of a positive test causing me to be stranded overseas for a quarantine period, the risk of being quarantined in my cabin due to an outbreak onboard, and what I perceive as the impossibility of any cruise line to consistently enforce social distancing in the terminal, on board, in the lines to re-board from the ports, etc. unless they sail at about 25% capacity, which seems unlikely for economic reasons.   

 

My choice will not be to sit around home grumbling about my masks.   (I may be grumbling about a pandemic that seems nowhere near ending, however.)   I will consider vacations that will provide pleasure and relaxation despite a likely mask requirement - a beach or lake rental within the U.S. to which I can drive and with facilities for simple meal preparation in order to avoid restaurants.   And this is only after I am fully vaccinated.  

 

I have cruises in Europe booked in 2022.  If a mask requirement is the only change from my 2019 cruises, then I will be going.   It's the rest of the cruise and European travel experience that I will be monitoring before making my final payment or booking airfare.

We won't, but I have been curious if we might see more mask wearing in crowded areas and during flu season, similar to what you see with some Asian cultures.

Nearly 2 years ago I booked us a family vacation to celebrate a few big things.  After having been cancelled twice now, our current sailing date is 5/17/21, but the cruise we’re getting is NOT the vacation we signed up for, nor is the vacation we want.

 

One of the biggest things from our perspective is the whole “you can only get off the ship if you have an official carnival excursion”.  Sorry there’s 6 of us, which means excursion days will be $600+ and this vacation has already tapped me out.  We like to get off the boat and explore the port.. 

 

On the ship, the masks, the social distancing for food lines, certainly there will be less deck chairs (as if it wasn’t already hard enough to find a chair).  It’s not going to be the carefree vacation we signed up for.  
 

I realize this isn’t carnivals fault, but it is what it is..

It may be a better chance for a deck chair, since I've heard ships will be sailing at 60%. when they begin sailing again.

I got my first yesterday and looking forward to my second in less than a month. The reaction is an indication that the immune system is responding and developing defenses. It ain't a picnic, but it ain't Covid either.

My 67 year old neighbor, not in the best of shape, overweight and diabetic got his 2nd moderna 4 days ago , he only expierenced arm pain and slight headache .. totally gone now ,

My daughter, 46, and son in law, 49, both had COVID and got their second Pfizer vaccine.  He got very sick for a couple of days and she had no reaction.

I had the same side effects with shot 1 and shot 2. I was useless the next day, felt like I was running a fever, headache, nauseous and couldnt eat. My mom only had this the 2nd shot.

How long after the 2nd shot did she get symptoms? I had my 1st shot a few days ago. Just had a sore arm, hoping that I  don't have bad ones after the 2nd.

True, when i had COVID my temp only spiked once (for 10 min) during the first 5 days i felt sick (mild cough, sore throat, mild chest congestion) and after that was consistently within normal temperature range.

Well first off in my opinion its easy to understand why a Company that has massive exposure to liability would say this, I mean i dont understand why you have to put "Hot" on a cup of take out coffee either but there is a reason right? Unless and until the restrictions imposed on them by the CDC and other govt bodies around the world change then they will need to comply.  If there is a better way to ensure that passengers who get off the ship don't get unnecessarily exposed and then bring it back onboard that would: 

a) Satisfy the CDC requirements for mitigating exposure(other than not sailing cause i know someone will say that 😏)

b) limit their liability and,

c) allow them to not be faced with losses of revenue due to the cancellations of those who dont like the restrictions (which im sure is a BIG one to the Cruiselines)

Im sure they would love to know.

My original point was I have no plans to take a cruise where I cannot get off the ship unless I go on a ship excursion.  The local tour company if I hired one would not be deemed to be "safe".  Yet, the cruiseline could hire this same local tour company and then it would be "safe".  Same tour.  The liability and safety is all a bunch of horse manure.  So my cruises will not continue if they have these excursion rules.  I have moved 2 cruises on RCCL to 2022 and now will be moving a 9/2021 cruise.  Not one bit upset about it as we plan to enjoy ourselves with land vacations and road trips on our own and not being stifled by rules.  I love cruises but based on the rumors, will not waste thousands of dollars to have that type of vacation.  Everyone is different and has their own opinion.

Even though we have a cruise booked we are planning a totally different vacation at the time of the cruise. Holding out hope still but even 2021 is looking iffy.  We are flying in and we are either getting on a ship or getting a rental car.  We will most likely cancel cruise last minute and do our road trip if these no roaming in port rules hold.

Sore arm on #1,  A bit stiff all over and achy on #2.  But went away inside a day.

My wife just got one of those offers that has a lot of perks and she went in to see which cruises this applied to.  She discovered NONE of the inside cabins were being used.  Ocean view and above only.  So that is a lot of people that wont be on board.

I am finding that too.  When you go to other sites that show all the cabins available for a category (Carnival will only show 10) for a particular cruise there are plenty available.  The cruise we are booked on in July has lots of empty cabins and when we booked we were actually able to get 3 person balcony cabins on the Lido deck for only 2 people, which our PVP says hardly ever happens.  I also think people aren't wanting to book inside cabins in case they get quarantined.

No, just choose different vacations.  I have been to Vegas/AZ/Utah (June 2020).  Most of the vacation was outdoors.  Vegas at that time was hardly enforcing masks, the only time we wore them was on elevators.  We went to the pool and rode the roller coaster at NYNY, etc.  No shows and it was the 2nd week it reopened so far less crowds.  In November 2020 we went to Colorado, again mostly outdoors and very little mask wearing.  If I am required to get the vaccine or the whole other laundry list of items on that initial posting then I will not cruise.  After 18 I will retire.  THAT is not a vacation.  I have one I just booked yesterday before I saw this post and now I am having buyers remorse.

How/Where do you find that information about open cabins?   What other sites are there to use besides the Carnival booking engine that shows cabin options?

In all the brouhaha about taking the Covid  19 Vaccination has anyone considered that there may be long term affects that are not very good? Perhaps a few months to 15 months after the shots as an example. I know people on these boards love cruising. There is something about it. And there are people negative about it who never tried it. Thus everyone should try it at least once.  Lets face it. Cruising is close quarters in many ways.  And a good thing is the ventilation systems and other upgrades will be made for our safety.

I don't think we're allowed to mention the names of particular sites, but if you just go to other websites that book cruises you'll find there are many that show far more than 10 cabins available per category, unless there are actually only 10 or fewer available.  Right now for the cruise we have booked for July (I know wishful thinking)  Carnival didn't even show the 2 cabins available that I chose.  I only knew we could get them by doing some searching on other cruise sites.  I then called our PVP and told her the cabins we wanted to book.

That's why they did all those studies before authorizing the use of the vaccines.  These vaccines have generally been around since May 2020, and are based on vaccine "technology" that has been around for a few years, used in treating other viruses.

 

So the long term effects have already been studied - yes, there will always been outliers, but in general, it is a well studied area.

I think you'll see a huge push in late spring/early summer to vaccinate high school/college students, or at least the ones 16 or older. Some states are better at others than distribution, but supply isn't going to be an issue much longer.
