Good afternoon all. Festival of Sleep Day is great if you are one of the lucky people who can sleep anywhere. I usually sleep well in my own bed but usually have trouble when traveling or visiting. I would never toss a good fruitcake especially the ones from Assumption Abbey but not likely to keep a cheap one. Humiliation, hmmm I am sure I have experienced that a time or three. I imagine Marilyn might have said something  like that near the end of her life.

I like the recipe but yikes! The first one calls for a stick and a half of butter for four servings! The second one I will save the recipe. Pass on the drink but would probably like the wine. Never been to Ushuaia but I am enjoying the pictures.
Covid19 numbers are really going up here so we are laying low. Lots of break through cases. We are triple vaxed and not too concerned for ourselves but I see my 95 year old Mom every day so we are extra careful. We are lucky to be missing the snow. Mostly south of here. My sister lives and works in Cape May county in NJ and they are getting hammered.
My thoughts go out to those with health issues as well as those of you grieving the recent loss of loved ones. Wishing the lucky people on cruises or going soon that they have the best time!

@sailingdutchy, Tony, what website was your ship tracker from?  My bestie from Ohio wants to track us and we go through our Rotterdam cruise.

Hi @summer slope this was not from a website but a picture from a TV screen on board the ship in 2015 . Those screens have been changed  quite a bit now over the years .

@Horizon chaser 1957maybe that's as finished as it's going to get.  Those 6 rectangles on the ground may be part of the design.  Not sure what it represents.  Here it is on 1-12-2020 while on our Coral Princess Antarctica cruise.  Our last cruise, 2 years ago.  Edited to add, maybe this represents a  glacier.  Similar in shape.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVK5ZElHmP-zj3Q3h87Oswoj?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1579810647

We remembered our first time we had Ushuaia on the itinerary was in 2012 and they refused our ship entry because we had stopped in the Falklands right before.  So we've only been there three times.  The second try was with @Quartzsite CruiserLenda and I recall it was a bit damp there in the morning.  The streets are all wet on our photos.

The next stop there was Dec. 26, 2016 while on Seabourn Quest.  Here is my favorite picture that day.  DH and I walked into the visitor center, which had automatic door openers on them.  The doors were open a lot since everybody wanted maps and info.  One of the stray dogs in town walked in, circled the room and laid down right in front of DH.  He actually laid his body on DH's foot!  00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJN1bObDTrFgOSUmOAAJb_i?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1484521121

Here's the staff busy with visitors.  No one really noticed this pup taking a nap in there.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKcmULdQd3jCowyo1yYLUDu?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1484527378

A few of that dog's friends heading towards the visitor center for a nap.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLOA5SCX8jKNqJT2EMSff22?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1485042230

Another photo I enjoy from that cruise was this comparison of the Quest sitting next to the Princess ship.  00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKhkkmZ7Xc2KzNmtLnat1qC?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1485042273

Quest was such a cozy little ship.🥰

Good morning, Dailyites, and thanks to everyone posting.  I guess today is definitely Cough Day, too!  Sadly, too, the hummingbirds all seem to have disappeared.  I hope we don't find a lot of little bodies after the snow melts.  Poor guys!

We have been to Ushuaia twice.  The first time we stayed a few days before our expedition to Antarctica on Quark's Sea Adventurer.  DD wanted to drive in Argentina, and we thought it would be wiser in Ushuaia than in BA, so she drove us around for four days.  We went all over the place and found it fascinating.  The second time we were there just for the day on Zaandam.   We noticed that the glacier behind the town had receded a lot.   I have tons of pictures!

I've enjoyed the many photos of Ushuaia and they bring back many memories.

Since no one has posted any photos of going on a small boat out into the Beagle channel, I thought I'd add a few  of those. We got really close the time we were in a really small boat, the oldest one doing the Beagle Channel tours - independent. Some of these up close and personal encounters were quite aromatic especially the ones with what appear to be white rocks!

Also, the centolla (crab) served the traditional way is wonderful. And the flowers are amazing as has been  previously stated. I think we have been there five times now. Last time in 20192010 we went to the park that so many have already posted photos. We should be back there in 2023 - fingers crossed.

Randomly from Star Princess 2008, 2010 - Veendam 2015 - Zaandam 2015. Also there on  Seabourn Quest 2019/2020 but that's when we went to the park and there are already lots of photos.

Forget about Humiliation Day.  It is Fight With CC Day today.  😠  Since it is in control - and not me - I will just go with it.

@summer slope, my personal take on the Neptunes on the Pinnacle-class ships is that they are not worth the money.  The only upside to them, for me, is Club Orange.

@marshhawk, a side effect of blood pressure meds is chronic cough.  Maybe look yours up to see.  You might also want to try Loratadine for the runny nose to see if that helps.  Walmart has a good generic brand.

Ironic how Festival of Sleep Day had me up most of the night.  What’s up with that?

The quote is fun but I have to wonder if it was really Miss Monroe’s or just what the Hollywood Machine wrote for her.

I would have been able to post pics of today’s destination had my Antarctica cruise not been cancelled.  I’ll let that go.

What a difference a day makes!  Our storm warning was upgraded, again, to add another few inches.  I’d say we have about 6”/15cm now.  It is scheduled to continue until 4:00pm, at which time you will find me out shoveling.  My back hurts already.

A busy day at the bird feeder today.  This is the view from my comfy place.

Sorry now that I posted the other day about he rain here in DC area. Yesterday 60’s, today six inches 😱. Your pictures makes me wish I had a bird feeder 😊. Thanks

That is good news your grandson is feeling a lot better after only 1 day feeling unwell with Covid.

The birds down there were amazing.  I looked them all up, but of course, have now forgotten their names.  A few more - (the first is the Magellanic woodpecker, it's huge, about 2 feet tall.  We couldn't get close.)

And that was only Ushuaia - once we got into Antarctic waters, the Falklands and South Georgia, there were sooo many more.  I just wished I was a proper birder.

The snow stopped so I went out to shovel.  Had to get a pic of the tree out front.

@AncientWanderer, I thought of your “dress shoes for the snow” while I was shoveling.  The bottom of my boots kept picking up the packing snow to the point where I felt like I was wearing high heels, then platforms.  😳

I am loving the destination pics, especially the schooner, lighthouse, fleurs, and animal pics.  “Malamute in the Snow” is awesome, as is “Stray Dog on a Foot”.  😂

It has been a busy day at the bird feeder and bath, and I am loving all of the different species who are visiting today.  It makes me happy.  🥰

I’m no expert but to lock down the Provinces to protect against Omicron is beginning to feel like locking down the Provinces to protect against a cold.  Get your dam vaccines because the sensible aren’t going to put up with protecting your a$$ much longer.

I think I started the cough sequence but have been AWOL since.  Mine has not been chronic.  It only started Thursday or Friday and seems to be gradually getting better.  I did get a telemed with my Doctor's Nurse Practitioner this morning and she prescribed something but getting it will be a challenge.  While we were not hit as hard as @NextOne our temperature dropped from 61F yesterday to 30 today and we got a wet snow:

snow.thumb.jpg.dbeb72f4f288571afb21178ed029a80b.jpg

I did get the car cleaned off pretty much but felt pretty hammered by the time I was done.  The plow has been up my cul de sac twice so I assume the roads are getting decent here but the pharmacy app still shows "In Process" so they may be short staffed.  I may not get out till mid-day tomorrow since they expect a refreeze overnight.

It doesn't sound like breakthrough covid and I will be careful the next couple of days but won't be a hermit either.  I ordered a couple of Binax Now tests so I hope to know something more by Wednesday.

As soon as I mentioned a cough to the dentist they said they'd prefer I not come in.  One thing I can't change to telemed.

We’ve been to Ushuaia once while aboard the Zaandam in January 2018, but didn’t spend any time in town.  Instead, we took a tour that included a bus trip as well as some time on a boat.  As the photos shared by others show, we saw lots and lots of birds and beautiful countryside.

On a different note, I had my appointment this morning with a specialist regarding the squamous cell carcinoma on the bridge of my nose.  He indicated that based on the location and size of the area, I should have minimal scarring and the procedure should be quick and easy.  I now have an appointment on the 19th.

I think you’re right. My picture was taken 3 weeks after yours, and there are construction materials around the back. I’m thinking now they were working not those benches around the back,  or on the monument itself.

I just read an update email on the fundraiser our development is collecting for the family of the poor man who lost his life at our guardshack on Dec. 27 when it was run into by a drunk driver.  From 282 donors they have collected $19,500.  That will help to pay for funeral expenses for the family and help out with other bills.  Nice to know there are so many generous folks here. 🙏

Update on DH's jury duty summons.  Apparently there isn't a cut-off age here.  All they could do is postpone his jury duty for 6 months, and told him to get a note from his doctor that would excuse him permanently. We can understand that they can't just take someone's word for it over the phone, but it would be nice if we had age limits here like some of you do where you live--so much easier.

I remember here we had to show up in person at the Courthouse and speak to someone in person.  But they didn't give us a hard time about it.  Maybe do as @*Miss G*says and keep at it.  They may get tired of hearing from him and relent.  🤷‍♀️

Today is a sea day. I'll finish my book and run down to the library to see what's next. The ship has about 1300 guests and the dining room looked like a ghost town last night. Tonight is Tamarind and looking forward to the crispy duck!

Wishing everyone a happy day. God bless!

We have reservations for Tamarind at 6:30 p.m tonight😉.....will miss the Captain's toast ( cute..we all hold up our drink card since we can't toast with champagne!🥂) ....we did attend last week, however. Hope to see you more on the ship. Tomorrow is Grand Turk for the day.😎🌴
