The Daily for Monday 04/11/2022

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  Not a fan of barbershop music, but I know others do appreciate it.  We rarely have poutine, although a place nearby has great butter chicken poutine - might have to make a run out to get some today.  Sochi has made it perfectly clear that every day is Pet Day at our house.

 

Well it happened - it snowed again last night.  I had a weather warning about 11 last night for freezing rain, so I turned my phone off for the night and went to bed.  Well this morning "the world in silent stillness lay" - under a blanket of white.  I'm sure glad I didn't put our parkas and boots away; they don't usually get moved to a basement closet until mid-May.

 

We haven't been to today's port, but maybe some day.  I love the sound of the drink of the day and will certainly be adding it to my list of "must try" on our next BHB.  

 

@Sea ViewerI'm sending good vibes for your DH as he has his angiogram today, as well as for you for strength to see him through it all.

@kazugood luck with your legal chores today; they're not pleasant, but as you said, necessary.  Your plants - as always - are beautiful; I had to look them up on the internet, and I'm sure they're going to do very well.   BTW, great photos from your new phone!

 

Today is our DGS's 7th birthday, so we'll be doing a video call at dinner time this evening to wish him well.  We'll be heading to Calgary in about a week to spend time with them and enjoy the party they've planned for his celebration.  Salmon on today's menu suggestion - sounds like a good one.  We never used to eat salmon until the pandemic hit and one of the stores had frozen salmon fillets on sale, so we picked some up to try.  Well of course, @dfishposted that delicious recipe for lemon garlic salmon, and it went from there.  Right now DH's fave is super simple with Dijon mustard and a mix of panko crumbs and parmesan.  I know we've got some salmon in the freezer so I'll take it out for dinner tonight along with oven fried asparagus and a rice pilaf.  And wine.

 

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Extra prayers for the people of Ukraine and all who are providing assistance to them.  Extra prayers also for our Daily family with health issues and those who are struggling.  We'll raise our glasses together to salute all on the growing happy list.  Stay safe, get your boosters, wear your masks when you need to, wash your hands, and be well.

A bit late today as Sam wanted his walk already. Posting a photo of my siblings that I finally downloaded to my "new" computer. Taken 10-1/2 years ago in better times.

 

 

Then for National Pet Day, my favorite pictures of Sam's predecessors. Both were Alaskan Malamutes who had smiles. Juno's fur was a bit darker than Oke's.

Good morning! We miss our cats but will not have more because of our travels. Poutine not a big fan of, as I always could feel my heart saying no more you’re killing me!

 

We have been to Portland while cruising on the Prisendam. Fond memories.

 

I really enjoyed watching the Masters this year. Great competition. Would just like to look at the course but have no desire to attend anything with that many patrons in attendance.

Will have another cup of coffee and read our local paper and then it will be time for my favorite Monday chore. Laundry Day!😩

Thank you for the Daily Report!

 

I love good poutine, but not every place makes good poutine.  For example, poutine made at Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Canada is not good.  Chicken gravy just isn't a good gravy.  It needs to be beef gravy.  The curds  must actually be curds, don't put mozzarella in poutine.  

The salmon sounds good.  

 

Any pet I have had has been the boss of the house.  Especially cats.  Just because they spend most of the day sleeping doesn't mean anything.  They know when it's time to feed them.

As I mentioned before, we stopped at Portland, England on the Prinsendam's "Irish, Scottish and European River Cruise" on Sept. 13, 2018.  What a lovely cruise that was!  The skies were clear as we headed off the ship and boarded a bus provided for us to get over to Weymouth.  We were dropped off a couple blocks from the small harbor.  We passed this nice little restaurant/bar while we walked.

 

First sight of the harbor which was very scenic.  We were told this harbor was used in filming the movie "Dunkirk" which I've never seen. 

 

 

 

 

Behind you when looking at the harbor is this lovely downtown area.  Ah, I see a fish and chips restaurant right there.

 

We noticed a bridge to walk (or drive) across to get to the opposite shore so headed there.  Here's a photo I took of a sign showing it raising, not knowing I'd see it raising later as we left.

 

While standing on the bridge

 

We headed down this main street, and went in a grocery store to pick up something.  Toothpaste?  We had been cruising a month and a half already on two cruise lines so I was getting low.

 

 

 

At the end of the main street was the beach!

 

 

 

Looks like saddles on these donkeys.  People ride them?  Perhaps only children.  Good to see the man taking care of their hooves.

 

A view as we returned back to the bridge.

 

This area at the harbor was my favorite part of town.  You can see the clouds were rolling in.

 

 

All of a sudden I could see the drawbridge raising back where we had recently crossed.

We walked back to the bus pick up point for our ride back to Portland and the Prinsendam.  Scenery as we neared the ship, photos taken through the bus windows of course so not the best.

Good morning, all! Our pets have long since crossed the bridge. Good poutine is to die for, and bad poutine is to die from. While not completely traditional, making poutine with bacon gravy takes it to the next level.

Yesterday DH and I walked down to the local Dairy Queen and shared a banana split in a booth overlooking the park. Neither of us had done that in years. It was like being teenagers on a date, and so much fun! This morning is cold and windy, so no ice cream treats today.

I feel much better after officially declining the Easter trip to DS’s, especially with several people we don’t even know staying in the house.  Now to decide what to make for Easter here.

Happy Monday, as another week begins aboard the BHB’s!

@StLouisCruisers @ger_77 thanks for your thoughts this morning. DH is having his procedure now so fingers crossed. I am able to wait in the waiting room today, first day it is open. Last time I had to wait outside and wait for a phone call.

 

Donkey rides for children at the beach were very popular when I was growing up.

The doctor is a specialist joint doctor and prescribed some Diclofenic gel and requested an x-ray of both knees then possibly steroid injections depending on what is found on the x-ray.

That sounds like normal procedure.  I did a couple of years of cortisone injections in the knees and then graduated to the gel injections.  Not sure what it was.  Diclofenac gel is very good.  I could not take the pill as it raised my liver enzymes too much.  Finally, I gave in and had the knees replaced.

Good morning all,

Been a while since I have been on.  Really enjoyed all the pictures and posts this morning.
Last week we were camping in our trailer and had exceptional weather.  Only one rainy evening.  But no internet and I don't like getting on my phone to look at things..so I unplugged!! 

This week it is another story with the weather.  Coast is cold and very wet.  Portland/Vancouver area have snow and schools are cold.  Like the news said, a very late and poor April fool's joke for us.

On a brighter note we are close to getting our new cruise rebooked from the Volendam cancellations.  But I have not ill feelings about that cancellation.  Glad that the Volendam is being used for a worthy cause.  

Thank you for the reports and cares lists.  Salmon is a favorite meal for us.  I have some in the freezer that needs to be eaten.  Great set of days and I like the quote very much.

Haven't been to the port.  Maybe next year.  

Prayers for strength and hope for all on the care list.  Cheers to all celebrating or just being grateful for all we have.

Good morning all!

A cloudy day here in the PNW, we might get up to 50 F today.  Yesterday was a mixture of sun, rain, and hail.  A typical crazy April day here.

I haven't heard enough barbershop quartet music to be a fan or not, will pass on the poutine and we haven't had any pets since retiring and traveling more.  I do enjoy our grand-kitties and grand-pups though.  

 

Will pass on the wine, the drink sounds good and salmon always is a good choice.  We have some steak leftover from last night so will do something with that tonight.

 

Today is our son's 48th birthday (how can that be?????)  but we all celebrated last week and he's working, so we won't see him today.  

 

Here are a couple photos of the pets in our family, grand-kitty Nimbus and grand-pup Rogue. Both are very good pets!  I know both DS and DD plan to get another puppy, so there will be more grand-pups in the near future.
