The Fleet Report and Daily for Thursday May 23rd, 2024

Recommended Posts

Good morning to all! I hope wherever you are the nasty weather skips right over you.

We are expecting on again and off again rain and thunderstorms for the next several days. Fingers crossed that nothing extreme happens. Two weeks ago tornados skipped right past us two blocks away. We spend too much time in our basement with the dog!
Looking forward to learning what best-friend-in-law is. I think I have one.

Thank you all for the information and reminders to care about those in need.

Congratulations to those celebrating.
No taffy for me, the wine sounds good. I will watch for the yummy stir fry recipe.

I planned to garden today but I will have to be prepared to go in and out as the weather changes quickly.

Wishing all a safe and happy day.

Debbie

Thank you for today’s FR & D, Rich! Another lovely morning here. Yesterday was just lovely. Warm, but those strong Easterly winds made it enjoyable.

Vanessa, glad to read you are taking care of yourself. Hope your BFF’s recovery is quick & smooth. Thank you for keeping up with all of us in spite of what is going on in your life.

Gym, Bindi walks, Bindi’s annual physical with her Vet, a trip to the local wine bar to pick up the wine ordered at their last wine tasting & maybe a dip in the pool. I need to fit a couple chores in there, too.

Prayers for all who need our support. @ger_77 Gerry, hope everything went well for Maurice & you yesterday.

Cheers to all who are celebrating!

Happy Birthday, Tana!

May this be the first of many more, and may some physician/scientist find a way to help you!

May we each find a reason to smile today.

*************

Scott Base Sauvignon Blanc

Another New Zealand SB should make our white wine lovers happy. I would love a taste.  It is widely available and reasonably priced. Online prices start at $14.99.

Winemaker Notes

Scott Base Sauvignon Blanc has delicate herbal aromas of citrus blossom. It’s ripe and well balanced, with lemon, passionfruit and gooseberry on the palate. Vibrant acidity makes this a pleasing wine with great weight and a long finish. Serve with your favorite seafood.

  • 92Wine Spectator
Juicy and vibrant, with mango, Meyer lemon and lime flavors, plus fresh-grated ginger, lemon verbena and orange blossom notes on a sleek frame.

Good morning . We are expecting thunderstorms and  winds later this morning. It will be 85 later this afternoon. I am scurrying around trying to make today a good day for our Tana. A request for bean and cheese enchiladas is being filled for dinner later and DD will bake a cake. The teenager’s girl friend is coming by to give Tana a preview of her dress for the prom. She was very touched by the birthday wishes, thanks to everyone for that including @puppycanducruise, @grapau27, @cunnorl, @LambKnuckles, @Heartgrove, @summer slope, and @ottahand7!

I will celebrate turtles and I am very fortunate to have my DSIL’s for friends. I met both of them at the age of fifteen and have had some wonderful memories with them. Taffy is tasty but not a good thing for my older teeth and implants.

We are enjoying the sight of a newly paved street and the absence of pot holes. I was pleased to see a young woman driving the steam roller yesterday. The paving company did an excellent job and the neighborhood looks very spiffy now. Many of the houses here are well over a hundred years in age and some look a little past their prime.
Enjoy the day and stay safe.

Well this will be briefer than it had started, I accepted looking at all the new comments and it took a long time.  It was to erase my previous content.  Thanks for the Daily,  I will enjoy some Toffee.

Vanessa I hope BFF is recuperating at home and surgery was a complete success.   Prayers for healing for Maurice @ger_77.  Prayers for all needing them.

A beautiful day here so I hope to get a lot accomplished outdoors finally.   We had a fire in the wood stove to take the edge off.  It is 48 outside and 67 inside.  Clean the woodstove and lay another fire in case it is chilly again.   Have a lovely Thursday.  Nancy

@cat shepard, Ann, Tana and I thank you so much for your lovely wishes. We try very hard not to give up hope here and maybe something will be found to help Tana and others in this situation. I enjoy your positive nature!

I try never to give up hope, Terry. And though I no longer mention it every day - I keep Tana, you and your families in my prayers every day.

And my positive nature gave me an amazing career.

Good morning.  The Fleet Report and Daily has been busy.  I'll post Sandi's @StLouisCruisers links to today's port of Baie-Comeau, Quebec, Canada, and then go back and read the Daily.

Baie-Comeau has been our port of the day twice before on August 28, 2022 and November 18, 2023.  The links are below for anyone who wishes to retrieve the pictures they shared previously.

Neither Sandi nor I have been to Baie-Comeau, and we're looking forward to seeing any pictures.

Good morning, everyone!

It is going to be a beautiful sunshiny day here with temps in the mid 70's.  Sue was supposed to take River to her great grandmother's for the weekend, but River's father threw a fit and said he wouldn't come to the birthday party for the great grandmother if Sue and River were there, so they got uninvited.  Can't figure out what is wrong with some people, but Sue and River are better off without them, I guess.  The great grandma is very upset with them all over this.

Yoga today!  I bought myself a new yoga mat so I don't have to use a communal one.  Little things can be so uplifting.

Happy Birthday to @smitty34877's Tana!  I hope Tana has a wonderful day!

HappyBirthday3.jpg.bb3175141878bf0a09a84929c36e0cac.jpg

Today's dinner sounds great to me!   I'd just leave out the rice and sub in riced cauliflower.  Easy Beef and Broccoli

Brocolimushroomandbeefstirfry1.thumb.jpg.d5a539a119a2b49817808f42e8339122.jpg

If you use the flank steak in this next recipe, be sure to slice it very thinly.  It can be pretty tough if you don't.  I always marinate a flank steak to help tenderize it.   Beef and Broccoli 2

broccolimushroomandbeefstirfry2.jpg.5c8c00d5cc84b021afb12f68487245a4.jpg

This last recipe doesn't have the heat that the second one does.  It also doesn't call for mushrooms, but they are easily added in.  I'm leaning towards this recipe.  Beef and Broccoli 3

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Good morning from central Texas where it is 74F with 100% humidity and a dew point of 73F.  It is cloudy, and we should be seeing more thunderstorms beginning about 1pm and lasting until late evening.  Our predicted high is 84F with 10+mph winds again.  In other words, another fun spring day in Texas.  To add to the fun, I'll be cleaning house today.

Sadly, my sister-in-law died suddenly at 59 a little more than 14 years ago.  With two crowns, one implant and two implants in the works, I'll skip the taffy, but DH would have some if there was any in the house.  World Turtle Day is the best day to honor, and we should do all we can to help save the turtles.

An interesting quote from Plato that I'll have to think about.

The meal looks good for another day.  We'll pass on the drink and the wine.

We have not been to today's port.

The formation of the Republic of Germany in 1949 was the beginning of today's modern Germany.

@MrSnuffleupagus  Safe travels to Vancouver today.  Enjoy your cruise on Koningsdam.

@dfish  Debbie, I'm sorry for Sue, River and especially great grandmother about the birthday party.  I hope Sue and Rive and celebrate with great grandmother another day soon.  Life's too short for all the drama some people manage to do.

Good Thursday Morning Dailyites! It's 70 degrees with low dark clouds to the west, and the sun rising over the hill in the east.  And it will be in the high 80's today.

I've been pondering the quote, does Plato mean that we shouldnt take life too seriously?  That we should play?  Or to let life be understood as a play.  Act one, childhood, act two adulthood, old age for act 3, and then the curtain goes down.  Did they have curtains?  Probably shouldnt think too hard on that one.

I have not been to the port of day, IF the port of day is ever Walmart or our pharmacy, I will have photos. Another Formula 1 weekend this weekend,  Today is just practice , and I usually dont watch that due to time restrictions.

Well even though the kittens live on a screened in porch, I have only seen one this morning, so I need to go check on them.

The fans are all on, as we dont have the filters for the air conditioner ordered yet.  Not sure why DH hasnt done that yet, because once received, we get the air conditioner's annual inspection and then we can turn it on, thinking we will need it this year.

I hope everyone has a great and safe day-I have albums, nice old albums, but the speakers on my dad's stereo which i now own, dont work.  My neighbor gave us her parents old turntable with speakers, and they dont work either. I worked for a radio station in college, and received a lot of albums as gifts ( I wrote a lot of reviews) I even have some of my dads old 78's of Ella Fitzgerald but the house is mostly quite now.  I also have a wall of CD's  trying to replace the albums I cant listen to, and even CD players are becoming obsolete.  I ordered two this past winter and we have music on when we work, and listen to the sound of rain while we go to sleep.

When I went out this morning to feed the stray cats, I noticed that my gardenia that I bought in 2020 to plant , but then broke my arm and it never went into the ground is blooming!  Nothing smells better than a gardenia to me.

Good afternoon from the North Atlantic. Tomorrow we’ll be passing through the Gibraltar Straits. Captains noon hour report stated that we have now sailed 34,800 miles and our present sea conditions are running around 10-12’ waves and temperature around 68F.

We really enjoyed our visit in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria yesterday. After viewing the huge caldera from the volcano that took place 2,000 years ago we visited a small mom and pop winery. They produce around 5,000 bottles a year but also produce olives, oranges, bananas, mangos and coffee. All in a beautiful flowered botanical setting. We tasted some very good wines along with freshly wood oven baked bread, homemade marmalade, red pepper sauce cheese and olives.

Just a very special and momentous event.

Rocking along on our first of three sea days.

Thanks for the reports and post. Bruce

Only 70s today and cloudy!  Better. Could have some storms but the phone’s weather app makes it look like they’ll slide north of us. I doubt I’ll be outside anyway.

Terry, I’m sure you’ll be making it a bright day for Tana! 🎂. Enchiladas were my go-to dish in NM.  There’s always hope until there isn’t. Enjoy the love you share!

Blessings sent earlier for all the Dailyites. Hoping to hear from Gerry!
Glad Vanessa is able to manage to rest while caring for BFF.
Fun to hear about Annie’s kitties, and 👏 on getting some sales!
Can Jacqui get the CT scan done today?  Should have been done already!  Oiy, very concerned about you!
Nancy, please update us on your DB.
Glad the TX storms slide around Lenda and Elizabeth! 🤞

Yesterday I got drawn into projects DH has going. That’s not a bad thing, I’ve been in a lazy funk, nothing special just the normal ebb and flow I guess. Grandkids may come Saturday, a good chance to have some help installing a new window shade in the bedroom. The window is 8x5 so the shade is a bit unwieldy for us. We have to move a dresser (to where?) and some boxes (which should get unpacked)….  every project leads to 3 more….

My closest girlfriend in NM just had an offer on a house in Maryland accepted! While we’re not living in Maryland anymore, we’ll be closer again!  I wasn’t sure it would happen, her DH has been pretty attached to NM but my friend’s expectation has always been to return to MD after retirement, to where they have family. I’m so happy for her! And me!  Maybe I’ll see her this summer!  We became very close and I’ve missed her so much- we did our EMT training together, and then went to Chaplaincy training together in Colorado, plus many conferences and local trainings, hundreds of 911 calls, and just a whole lot of sharing life for 20 years! 💞 I guess I won’t be able to call her my western sister anymore if we’re both living east coast!🤣

My Rangers didn’t play well last night, Panthers deserved the win!

Time for eye stuff!  Just about every hour, but we’re hanging in, not giving up!  Thank you all for your blessings and support!  Stay well and safe!

Loving the flowers!  💐
Maureen

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  A best friend in law is becoming best friends with your friend's best friend.  Sort of like becoming your own grandpaw.  LOL  Like many of you, I have too many fillings/crowns to be tempted with taffy.  Turtles are the only reptiles I don't hate - I do love watching nature shows when the little ones make their way from the nests to the ocean for the first time.

To begin with, thank you all for your well wishes, prayers, and thoughts for Maurice's surgery yesterday.  The internet was spotty in the cardiac short stay area, so I couldn't get online and read yesterday's FR&D.  Once finished with this post, I will go back and read it.  DH's surgery went well; after a rather sleepless night (always wondering if the alarm would really go off!) we arrived at 6:30 to admitting and he was taken to the OR at 9.  He was back in the room by 11:30 and spent the rest of the day attended to by the most amazing nurses.  The doctor came by around 6:45 and said the surgery went "wonderfully" and after checking his echo-cardiogram (which he said looked really nice), said DH could go home.  By the time we got the discharge papers, etc., we wobbled into the house around 8:30.  Neither of us was really hungry (they fed DH at the hospital); all I wanted was a bowl of cereal and we were in bed by 9.  I don't remember my head even hitting the pillow; I think I went straight from conscious to coma.

This morning we have to back to the hospital for a follow-up blood test and ECG, and hopefully that will be it.  Something I didn't know, is that DH can't have any dental work done for the next 6 months, and when he does, he has to take antibiotics for 7 days - even for a cleaning!  Interesting.

@smitty34877please wish Tana a very Happy Birthday from her Canadian friends.  I hope she's buoyed by all the well wishes for her special day.

I'm going to take a pass on the drink of the day, will let others enjoy the white wine, but I do like the menu suggestion.  DH's sister messaged me at the hospital last night and said she would like to provide dinner for us tonight - thank goodness, as I don't know what I'd cook, nor sure if I have the energy today to do much more than exist.  Adrenaline crash really is something.  Whatever my DSIL brings will be what we enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Happy Birthday Tana!  Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann, and Dixie.  I can’t relate to any of today’s days.  Great news on Maurice.

Plato’s take on life is quite interesting..

A great day in German History..

I have not cruised to Baie Comeau although I boarded the ferry across the St. Lawrence there in 2000.  I have neither much memory of the town nor photos..

I’ll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Pineapple Boat, Rack of Lamb with with Tomato Couscous, and Garlic Pearls, and Black Forest Cake as served on MS Prinsendam May 23, 2015,.:

A bit cooler today.  Yesterday’s consult was long.  With the Key Bridge gone I avoided the big roads and took the backroads and greatly overestimated the time needed.  I left the house at 11:30 and arrived about 1 for my 2:30 appointment.  I left the facility at 3:30, and decided to minimize my cooking so stopped at Arbys a little before getting home.  Not a lot to cheer about but they want me to do some more invasive tests which will need to be done in downtown Baltimore.  Again, with the Key Bridge out of the picture, the other roads get clogged easily and I’m not looking forward to that.

So happy to hear DH surgery went well. What a long day you had - I'm surprised by what I think of as major surgeries ending w/patient discharged same day🤷‍♀️ But so relieved to hear all is well.

I am now pre-med for all dental procedures, including cleanings, after getting hardware for a broken ankle, but luckily only 4 pills 1 hour prior.

Prayers 🙏 for continued recovery.
