Now We Need an Elevator Pass!

So the Classic Elevator package only works for one floor at a time and the Premium Elevator package will go up to 5 floors? If I get the Premium Elevator package can my wife ride along or must she get off after only one floor? Does the Classic elevator package include select riding or is it only at certain riding times? Is the Elevator Package cold water or warm water as I only use cold water elevators.

But if you are elite, you can use the elevator for unlimited periods during happy hour.

They do exist on Cunard Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth, the suite key card gives you access to the suite restaurants and lounge on the top deck. Its only on a couple of the central lifts, and frankly, it was quite embarrassing having to put your key card in the slot and select the floor when the lift was full.

p.s. We were in the cheapest suite!

You think that was embarrassing? One time we stayed at a hotel on the top floor (was upgraded to a suite because of loyalty membership) and the elevator has a room card scan for all the guests. When we went into the elevator, scanned the key, it bypassed all the other floors selected by the other people in the elevator and drop us at our floor. We got out of that elevator really quickly and didn't look back. For the rest of the stay, we made sure the elevator was empty before we used it. :p

I think many of the hotel's staff card scan does the same thing (priority elevator call). One time I saw a hotel plumber (he was in work outfit and holding a toilet plunger), the elevator bypassed all the other floors and went straight to his floor. He did say "sorry, emergency" right before he stepped out. :p

They tried this on the Quantum of The Seas. Suite quests had a chip in their card. When they wanted an elevator they inserted their card in a slot by the elevator banks. The low lifes on board the elevator got a recorded message. the elevator stopped at the next floor and the low lifes were to exit the elevator.

The problem was that kids residing in the suites thought this was funny and so they made a game of it. Needless to say, the low lifes started complaining. I believe that system was subsequently discontinued. There were threads about this on the Royal boards a few years ago when Q was in NJ.

I am so glad I did a lot of sailing when there was not the 'class' divide in public areas. I love the idea of separate/private venues for more money, but not in public areas IMHO.

I for sure think there needs to be some help for those needing a little special/extra help, but not due to class. I have gotten off an elevator to allow a wheel chair to get on. I sync back up with DW and almost beat the elevator anyway. :)

We did see on, I think it was Allure of Seas many years ago, elevators not stopping at our floor and having to wait through 2-3 elevators before having one stop at our floor. :(

HAR HAR,

What amazes me is how many people will get on an elevator then go one deck and get off!

Here's hoping that you never have mobility problems, or bad knees, or COPD. It's like those who complain because someone uses a handicapped parking spot, while not having to limp. Just because someone looks able does mean they are.

You can also pay through your card to have the elevator travel farther than the allotted number of floors, however if you have the Classic package you must pay for the total cost of floors traveled, while with the Premium package it is just the difference in floor traveled over the Premium Allotment. Expect to see the staff have tables by the elevators to sell upgrades after the Muster drills :D

So true Rich, wife had that happen to her. We both have handicapped parking placards and some woman made a comment to her husband about the wife that she overheard. Some people are just ignorant.

NCL's Haven had a key card requirement to access the Haven deck but it didn't cause the elevator to bypass decks already selected. I would love it if you could put a card in and it brought an elevator to you immediately (one that was available without people inside that had selected floors already) and then when you entered gave you the option to go express to your floor. I of course would only use that option inside the elevator if my group were the only ones getting on. It would be easier on new ships coming to just put all the suites in one section and maybe give one private elevator for that section within one of the elevator banks rather than annoying people with elevator priority cards.

Elevator pass? Nope....at least not yet. But given the recent history of Celebrity we can certainly see a future when passengers will have to pay to use the elevators. Of course it would be a decreasing fee (tied to number of decks) so those using the elevator to move a single deck would be charged $25 (plus a 18% Gratuity)...but if going more then 8 decks it would only be a $10 fee (plus 18% gratutity).

You are right, I did not mean to go after people with mobility problems. However, I see so many people doing this, I doubt seriously if they all have mobility problems.

We reached out to Celebrity Cruises to see if we could get more information for you. Here's what we were told: "I can confirm that we do not offer, sell, or give anything resembling the aforementioned "elevator pass," nor do we intend to implement/offer something like such at this time."

HAR HAR,

Glad to have some humor on these boards.

In reality, we do try not to use the elevators very much, so walking the stairs burns that dessert that we had for last night's dinner. We still ride the elevator, like when holding hot coffee or having to go up many decks.

What amazes me is how many people will get on an elevator then go one deck and get off!

This is just a gentle reminder that not all disabilities are visible. My mother has a heart condition, rheumatoid arthritis in my knees, and spinal stenosis. We often take an elevator, to go up just one floor (and sometimes even down) because it is agony for her to use the stairs. Please do not rush to judgment.

Maybe on Edge if there are enough elevs for the rest of us,,,

We experienced a cruise where a group had exclusive access to 2 elevs that only stopped on their floors,....,brutal for the rest of us who paid our fare just like them,

i think it is important to remember that things can change in a flash; just because it isn't available now, does not mean it won't be considered in the future. If there is a need and a way to make money, it could happen...:eek

Just holding the button could be a way to move quickly to your destination, along as no one has hit a floor prior...

Did nobody know- thats the next step in the " Modern Luxury " concept- elevators are only for wheel chairs users and suite guests. Guest who are in lower class cabins- such as a balcony or below have to use the stairs! :D

Of course in due time they sell a nice elevator package. I heard it goes by day , week or the whole of the cruise- which of course would be the best valued package!

Yeah yeah they are clever aren´t they!

good post.

When the Concierge in Michael's Club took us down to leave the ship at one of our ports. I thought he put a sea pass card in the slot in the elevator and the elevator when right to the floor we needed. Might this be what the OP is talking about.

I've stayed many a times in hotels that you need to scan your room key to get the elevator to stop on my floor or the club lounge floor.

NEWSWORTHY...The Magazine For

Those in the Know...

...For those cruisers who are without PERKS or "perk less," you may be allowed to purchase an elevator pass with your OBC. There will only be a limited number of passes for each sailing, so make sure that you sign up and pay, at least 24 hours after your luggage arrives. These passes are good for either up or down and pass for the length of the cruise. You are able to receive your pass if you can prove that you are perkless, are the first in your family to sail and have used an elevator in the past. You will receive a special permit to board any elevator on the ship...remember that there are only a limited number being sold. If you don't get one this time, you are out of luck! Ask any crew member for details as soon as you board... ***This pass can be discontinued at any time for any reason! (fine print) Sorry, but our ropes have not arrived from our distributor...

Well according to OP, the only ones to get the passes are the perkless people.

Where do I register my complaints? I am in a suite. I paid enough. I should get a pass. To heck with every else. They can use the ropes.[emoji3]

I thought I had heard everything, but why are elevator passes being loaded onto our Seapass Cards? Do we have a select number of times that it can be used based on cabin class? Also, where is this inserted to get on the elevator? I am really confused about this idea, so please help...

I know on the Cunard QV/QE we had them to get up to the Queens Grill/Princess Grill Rest. They don't have that on Celebrity & we didn't have it on our cards. Might be some express pass for handicapped, though I also noticed anyone with a chair/scooter just went up & down with everyone else.
