Annoying Photographers

Carnival is not the only line to block gangways. Just got off Celebrity and they had 2 photo ops before boarding, one blocking the gangway. Huge line of people thought they had to stop and were surprised when I walked on past. After waiting 2.5 hours to board I was not in the mood for a photo just ready to start my cruise.

I always walk right past the embarkation photo stop. I have been sitting in the terminal for half the day and I am not dressed for a photo, never could figure out why they take them there. They seem to really hate when I do that though as I often start an avalanche of people walking past them who did not realize it was an option.

I just got off of the Sensation and did not have that experience. On photo day they set up lots of back grounds and you could go to each of them to get your picture.

I did have several times when we were coming on or off the ship and I just said no and kept on walking.

On a Glory a few weeks ago, you could not walk past the casino to the aft lounges in the evenings without having to say “No” every 3 feet. The photographers literally jump in front of you and block your way, while pointing at their backdrops.

In the main dining room, they approached our table. A simple “No, thank you” usually does the trick. But recently, the guy went ahead and rudely snapped a picture anyway.

... and the jam in the stairwells to get off the ship at a port. Usually it’s the scanning of S&S cards that slows everything down. Now it’s three-deep photo ops at the end of the gangway... the captain wheel, the life ring, the bozos dressed like pirates, etc... Just try and get around that without a shutter snapping.

We always buy a couple of photos on a cruise and enjoy getting then taken. But never before experienced the annoying level that they stepped it up to.

These photographers (more like a Woodpecker that thinks he is a carpenter) may annoy some people along with vendors and touts outside the pier gate, but really they are people just like you and me. If you are patient and polite with them you will not harbor feelings of resentment on your vacation. A simple "Hi, how's it going?" with a smile and a no thanks while looking directly in the eye is so much better than walking away with a knot in your gut fearing a confrontation.

After my first or second cruise we don't buy photos anymore, but I do like to have fun with the photographer comes around. I will do stuff like pointing the steak knife at my wife for touching my food, having her pretend to strangle me or even making the goofiest looking faces. On one cruise I did ask one of the more annoying photographers if she should wait while I went to the restroom to change into my speedo(not that I would actually do it), she said no and she didn't seem bother us after that. The way I see it, is if they really want to take our picture I let them, I'm more then happy to waste there time and resources printing a photo that will just end up in the trash. I will say there have been several times were some stranger will tell me they saw one of my photos and thought it was hilarious.

I usually have my camera with me in case a good photo opp comes up. When they approach me I take out my camera and try to take their picture. If they let me , I will let them take mine (but do not purchase any). A lot of times they will not let me take theirs and then they walk away.

:'):')

Yeah, that’s all we did also... but it was more like “No, Thank you... No, Thank you... No, Thank you...

No, Thank you... No, Thank you... No, Thank you... No, Thank you... No, Thank you... No, Thank you... No, Thank you... No, Thank you... No, Thank you... No... No... No... No... No... I said No... I said NO!! NOOOO!!! What the??? Did he just take the picture anyway????” LOL

Hilarious

I like taking pictures. I do tend to dress up for dinner so it's fun to go to the different back drops and take pictures. If I'm not interested, a no thanks usually does the trick.

I do get annoyed by the gangway photographers however. I wish they would move them off to the side and let people make the choice. It's fun to stop sometimes, but not if you're trying to get to an excursion.

We usually pose for many of the photos and then get selective of which to buy.

But I have to say, some of the poses they put us in are very awkward, unnatural, and look rediculous... And although we tell the photographer we only want a photo of the full family, they insist on the solo shots, or just mom and dad, dad and daughter, etc...

Makes it very easy to dump 99% of the prints in the “Bye bye” box.

Mostly because so many of the faithful, do not realize that Carnival fails in one of the most important things that annoy people, and that is crowd control, from the simple process of getting off the ship in port, to blocking walkways with pushy photographers, to their designs of their buffets. Mega ships are designed to move people efficiently, and Carnival, continues with the same old design flaws. The discussion is around the choke points Carnival creates, and so, I like to point out, that Carnival is one of the only cruise lines that create the choke points, for the purpose of increasing revenue, instead of passenger comfort. Why is that wrong?

Once again, your efforts to denegrate by ascribing the phenom only to Carnival is bebunked by many with more balanced experiences.

You do get an “A” for effort in your quest to disparage one line with faults equally attributable to others. However. you get an “F” for accuracy, honesty and reliability.

I cruise with my DW. She's in a wheelchair and they totally ignore us! We've done 15 cruise's half with a wheelchair. On sail always the turn around when they see us!! Nothing like feeling like a leaper!! Whatever we take our own FREE pictures!! Lol!! Happy sailing!!

What we do works pretty well. Whether we're in the MDR, walking through the ship, or going down the gangway in port, we each hold up a hand partially blocking our faces and say "No paparazzi!" It almost always gets a smile from the photographer(s), and we're left alone. :D

I do the same thing except it's "No Press No Press"......... I love It !!!!!!:D

It doesn't really bother me, but I seem to be used to saying no thanks to people in the ports, in big cities, the Directv person at Costco, etc.

Just say no thanks and keep walking...or don't say anything at all.

For the gangway photos, it literally takes them like one second to take the picture so we just let them. We bypass the others on the pier.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

When there are a dozen people in front of me, all having to stop and pose for their pictures, it delays the line getting off. Multiply that by the hundreds of gangways I've walked off and you are talking hours of delays.

I would be happy if I could just walk done the gangway without stopping for others. BTW, this is not just a Carnival issue, it is pervasive throughout - just off NCL and they were the same as Carnival, and Princess, and Celebrity, and Disney.

Photos are big business, at least they are changing to all digital and doing away with the paper printing

and ink waste.

Smile & "No, Thank You..."

How hard is that...?

Then continue on enjoying your cruise, just being glad that your boss doesn't make you be that annoying to your customers...

This is so true and I try to remember it. They do not want to be pushy all day anymore than you want to be pushed. They are required to do so by their employer.

Some people let stupid stuff ruin their vacation

I'm never quite sure why a complaint gets the reply above - "why let it ruin your vacation?" Why can't a criticism be taken for what it's worth, a simple notice that there was something I didn't like or thought could be done better? Isn't that what this board is about?

There are many things I love about vacations and cruising, yet sometimes there is stuff that I haven't liked. I try to make note of both. I've never had a "cruise from hell" or have a cruise ruined by stuff I didn't like. I also have never had the "perfect" or "best cruise ever".

So, while I agree that I don't "let stupid stuff ruin my vacation", I don't stifle, stuff or ignore the stupid stuff either. I mention it and move on.:D

I tell them I have my own camera and I take my own photos. A lot of the time they see me walking around with my Nikon setup around my neck and they dont even bother me. Late at night when the photographers are gone and they leave their back grounds up I take advantage of it with my own camera. :D

I can tell you that when we are in one of the ports where one or more of the women of the photog staff dress in skimpy or slightly revealing outfits, that all it takes is the stink-eye from my wife to them to allow us to keep on moving. A "no thank you" isn't necessary. :)
