P&O Cruisers - What are things like where YOU are?

There hadn’t been much posted on the thread today so while I was sat down with my afternoon coffee I thought I would catch up with everyone.

I too would be sad to see the thread go, I feel like I “virtually” know you all.

I'll answer, since I always read but don't post too often and so am aware that this thread would probably die if more were like me, and I'd be very sorry about that since it's often my go-to place for a smile, an unexpected tip, tempting photos of Graham and Pauline's meals (or snacks by the beach) - but who is 'our Sarah?', Brian's travels to and from Italy, which make me a tad jealous, Avril's wise words (although I was shocked that she was not a tea drinker 😉) and so many more facets of your/our lives.

Today's useful tip was the Waitrose slots, so thank you Indiana 123.  I still do Wordle every day and have done since I first read about it here (Eddie?) plus Quordle and, never having even thought about one previously, am now seriously considering an Air Fryer!

Like you Michelle, I'm in Lancashire, but south west Lancashire so not a near neighbour, but nevertheless have had wet and windy conditions all day, accompanied by regular power cuts (I refuse to say 'outages'!).  The first were when I was with a physiotherapist this morning and then they continued as I tried to bake a steak pie (home made filling but bought pastry) and apple turnovers (yum - but I've just checked the calorie content of the all-butter flaky pastry before succumbing to the piece of chocolate I was about to grab 😔).

It is now 8 weeks since my full shoulder replacement following my disastrous trip on the bathroom step of my Celebrity Silhouette cabin on the penultimate day of my late July Fjords cruise, and what a souvenir!  I had wonderful NHS treatment at Southport hospital and can expect decent mobility again in time ..... but right now, my neck hurts following the physio, and tomorrow I take delivery of a 'gym ball', something I never expected to buy!

I've rambled and now I'll close and make a healthy salad for tea, or, given the weather, salad sandwiches and a mug of tea.  Thanks to all of you who do keep this thread alive.  I really do appreciate it.

Thank you for your post. Glad you are recovering after surgery. My Mum is in Southport hospital at the moment and we are happy with the treatment she is receiving. My sister who is visiting her from Oxford managed to go into Southport Boots this morning and have both her flu and covid jabs which is great. I too have booked my Waitrose Christmas slot and our nearest branch Sheffield still had a few slots free for 24 December so I booked one!

Had covid booster yesterday, no problems.. went for flu jab today and the pharmacist, in a well known store, refused it. Too near the booster he said.  I said others have had them together but thought it sensible to take his advice, I thanked him and will go again next week.

I asked the practice nurse on Monday when I went for annual blood tests about flu jab and Covid she said this year would recommend a gap of a week between the 2.

When I added the Squirrel baffle to ours it was more to stop the rats climbing the pole, I thought it was a squirrel eating the food, but my trail cam showed 3 rats climbing up it. The baffle put an end to that and the pest officer dealt with the rats which were holed up in next doors wood shed.

Awake too early today, so I whiled away a few minutes to check Christmas slots in Newark  Waitrose -my nearest - and there are heaps up to and including 22nd., nothing after that. (That is for delivery, not click and collect).  Remembering the queues at the tills, with staff bringing sweets round to make everyone feel better, it is so worth getting a big delivery, let alone trying to park.

Although maybe this year even Waitrose will be selling less special food and wine  than usual.

Morning all 😊 I'm glad some of you are getting your Christmas slots for shopping sorted .

We are registered with Morrisons and use the priority pass .Morrisons will invite us to

choose a slot just before they release the dates which will be around 15th of next month .

I hate going around proper shops, the Mrs said "don't forget to put ketchup on the shopping

list before you set off " .Some use that was, I could hardly read it.
Once at the check out The young shop assistant asked me "if I wanna box for my groceries?"
I told her only if she didn't hit me too hard, and asked if I could just pay by card instead.😉
Back in my younger days you could go to the store with fiver and come back with enough

groceries to last you a week. Sad to say not now, they have security cameras all over .
When I step out of the supermarket I usually end up get accosted by our local drunks who hang about there and I can tell you they are getting a bit militant .They all set off shouting at me.....

"What do we want ? ..A bottle of Martini.. When do we want it ? Anytime, any place anywhere!"

Give me online shopping any day ,its far easier. 😊

Hope you all have a wonderful  day, take care .:classic_love:

I’ve noticed on other treads that there is a lack of staff which causes specialist restaurants to be closed and slow bar service. What is the reason? Staff not coming back from overseas after covid, staff falling ill or P&O just saving money? Anyone have inside knowledge or recently been onboard and been told?

Seems to be  happening on several lines, even 'luxury' ones, where there are annoyed posts from a few possibly entitled people.  Ditto here, in some pubs and restaurants etc.  Covid was certainly the initial problem, I would have thought, and is still taking some time to get over.

Morning everyone. I hope you are all feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning😊

I have a yearly delivery pass with Asda, and like kalos, get an email when priority christmas slots are open, usually end of October or early November.

Josy, have a calm day at the food bank, and if you get a stroppy customer politely direct them to the nearest supermarket, where the range of goods on offer and customer service might be more to their liking😇

Have a good day everyone, whatever you have planned.x

After a few chilly days in the house when it wasn’t worth putting the central heating on to raise the temperature up a degree or so, this morning was down to 17c in the house so heating came on. Fortunately we can afford the high energy prices but when it costs £6 a day just to take the chill off the air, jumpers and fleece blankets are a cheaper option. We have 15 radiators in a 4 bed house but have switched off 5 because we are the only ones in the house after our 3 sons have flown the nest.

We’re setting the thermostat in the hall at 18c which gives us 19 to 20 in the lounge which is a degree down from previous years but now that our gas smart meter is working it shows how much heating costs. When just hot water it was 60 to 70p a day but just slight heating costs an extra 4 to 6 pounds a day, gawd knows what a full power cold winter day will cost. Electricity stays fairly constant throughout the year between £2.50 and £3.50 a day at todays prices, was £1.25 average. Is anyone else doing anything different now with the higher energy prices?

They are opening up on 18 October this year. We have an annual pass as well and the driver gave us the nod.

Our butchers orders open up for turkey etc shortly too. I can actually go a walk and see the turkeys.

Cabt believe I’m planning forChristmas already.

Have a good day all.

I had my Covid booster Tuesday last week (27th Sept) at a walk-in centre and my seasonal flu four days later at the local medical centre. I mentioned at the medical centre about my booster and I was told it didn't matter - there, they were offering both jabs, one in each arm, so it would suggest that there are no hard and fast rules, and that it is at the discretion of individual clinicians.

I don't have my heating on in the morning as there isn't enough time for the flat to warm up before I go to work.  I'm going to try and hold out from putting the heating on until November and make do with extra layers and fleece blanket for TV viewing.

It's really bright and sunny here today and the sunlight is streaming into our main bedroom and our study... curtains are wide open to encourage the "greenhouse effect." The. rooms soon warm up and become two or three degrees warmer than the rest of the house... and it's free!

This last week or so we would have had the heating on to take the chill off the air normally but have held off this year. With the heating cutting in and out today it is still 19c in the lounge which is the same temperature as previous days without heating but feels warmer because the radiators are warm.

My heating is timed to go on at 5.30, prior to me getting up to make tea about 6, which is lovely - and at present it goes off of its own accord by 8, and if not, I am switching it off.

Just bought a couple of jumpers in lambswool, a bit itchy but very warm, and am getting a long cardi in the same.  Hoping to keep the thermostat not too high this year.  My heating is oil, all we have here in the sticks, and new boiler is supposed to be a lot more efficient, and the radiators heat up very quickly after my lovely boilerman flushed them out.
