It does not leave the UK, that's the point it visits no other countries, May is 4 months away so we are not talking about the current situation are we. Incidentally, it a half full ship.

It is still thousands of people in an enclosed space.

Can't see Boris allowing it. Imagine the headlines " Plague Ship Returns to Southampton ". Too big a risk for the UK government to take.

Anyway, we both have our own opinions.  Perhaps in May we will see who was right.

I would love to 'like' your posts in this regard, sadly I cannot because I honestly believe there is little chance of a May cruise. Remember BoJo promised a world beating track and trace system, and we all saw how that panned out. That said, it's not only the vaccine that leads me to my conclusion....sorry!

  • 4 weeks later...

Financially it must be really starting to hurt, they admit burn out at $120 - $150M per month, 80% of cruises booked with FCC where’s the money coming from?
It’s not just the ships that need to sail, but the ports to reopen and except passengers.

If normal doesn’t equal cruising before December of 2021 you can bet that they will be bankrupt long before then. They MIGHT survive until the end of April with no sailings .

Bankrupt or out of business.  Two completely different things.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses per person.  AstraZeneca will require one.  Other vaccines will follow.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, said average, healthy Americans could expect to get their first doses as early as April and through July, he told USA Today.

Fauci says whatever it is that whoever it is paying him wants him to say.  that guy changes his story more often than some people change underwear.

Really, from an outsiders perspective he seemed to contradict his last boss quite a lot

I am astounded that the cruise lines haven't filed already.   Their debts are huge, no income for a year, extreme monthly expenses.   And really no end in sight except borrow more money.  Their stock is still considered an ok investment, mostly.  I can't figure that one either.  They are not going to be cruising with profitable ships for..........well....who knows.

Well ,there were way too many predictions and forecasts regarding NCL and how it is going to handle and survice the pandemic.. so far, its doing just fine and I dont see a single reason for it to fail

Huge debt and no income come to mind.

i think they are too big to fail. As long as there are chances that they will earn money in the fure they will get new loans from the banks.

If the banks would let NCL go then they would have some ships from them but what do the banks want to do with these ships? We all know the currently they could not sell them at all or for a much lower price than they are actually worth.

Your right Backrupt is a really probable but going out of business is NOT . BR clears a lot off of their books and they keep operating

Let me express it differently.

the amount of money the banks have already in NCL is too huge and the chances of earning money(and for the banks getting their money back) are way too good to let them fail.

If it would be a business with no bright future i would be concernced. But if there is a business that still has a bright future ahead it is the cruise industry.

So I agree with this analysis makes total sense but there are tow caveats

  • NCL have only about 6 months left of free cash
  • NCL(H) are committed to a lot of new ships and I suspect this will now cut back or delayed. The Leonardo will be built at least 1 but I suggest that there will be a delay as there may not be funding for further down the line  unless NCL raise more capital through share issues.
  • Are they going to sell ships to raise cash for Leonardo project  and if so who to

They may be sold but who to?

Will FDR survive - do not know. But they may need to bring in specialist turnaround management.

But in one form or another they will survive

I think some of those people who he is smarter than post on these boards. No too many others he is smarter than. He’s may be the worlds best con man. Maybe the cruise lines could hire him for their comeback.

No, that particular title may belong to the man who was forced to ride into the sunset a couple of weeks ago.....after refusing for a number of weeks to mount his horse!
