Social distance in the casino

I could see how you could separate people who are playing the slots, but how do you keep people far apart when they are playing table games?

Restrict the number of players at a table and put plastic shields between players and dealer.  Also no gathering to watch a player (s).

There are several land-based casinos operating now.  The Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood FL has plexiglass shields between individual players and dealers.  I'd expect something similar on board.

Vegas has been open since June.  Went in September.  No big deal.  With everyone being vaccinated, don't think it's going to be a big deal.

Even if vaccinated we can still get the virus, just not severe enough to be hospitalized or die, and it seems we may still be able to spread it.  So I think the cruise lines will be extra vigilant.

@jelayne's post reflects a very realistic approach to the issue. Not all vaccines have a 95% efficacy rate, and while a wonderful measure in the fight against the virus, vaccines aren't a magic cure.

CDC just stated that 2 weeks after vaccination (2nd dose or single shot JJ), we can gather with other fully vaccinated persons without wearing masks or socially distancing indoors, calling these types of events "likely low risk", This is a good sign for a return to cruising!

 

So as cruise ships will most likely only sail with vaccinated individuals, there will be little issue in the casino or elsewhere.

 

Not to say they still won't require their own set of rules .

This is good news.  And fully validates that cruises must sail with only fully vaxxed individuals.  The XX% of those who will steadfastly refuse the vax need to start shopping for an RV maybe.  Or doing a driving vacation.  I think that land based tour groups will also require a vax, especially those using coaches for transport.

As the CDC announcement today is more nuanced than your post might suggest, it's good to read the full announcement. Nevertheless, good news.

Nothing she said was wrong, this is a new vaccine, no one knows yet how long it will be effective, ie booster every year etc. 95% is great but still not perfect.  And this virus affects people who have other issues severely. The propaganda if anything is everyone thinking this is the cure all.  If you do best of luck but I will stay on the side of caution until more is known.

Many places in my area do not require them.....

 

I see no need to worry about being on a ship with fully vaccinated passengers/crew...if we can't back to normal in that way, we are never going to.

This.  By the time ships are back in large-scale operation, people will be widely vaccinated (perhaps 100% on ships) so there will be no need for plexiglass, masks, etc.

You should still delay domestic and international travel. If you do travel, you’ll still need to follow CDC requirements and recommendations.

 

I don't think they will be recommending cruising soon.

I agree time will tell....  I am a healthcare worker who has received my shots.  I see COVID every day at my job.  

 

I must admit the discussion is a bit tedious for me.  Before COVID, the biggest nastiest  easily-transmissible bug was Norovirus.   My practice has never wavered in regard to preventing getting a communicable disease on a ship (or anywhere I travel).  Upon 1st entry to my cabin,  I wipe every solid surface down with a disinfectant wipe and use a UV wand on the linens.  I also carry hand sanitizer with me and use the ship-provided hand sanitizer every time I pass one.   I treat all surfaces as contaminated, thus the frequent hand hygiene.  

 

If we can stop the panic and use some good infection prevention personal practices, then cruising will resume faster and safer than ever!

The CDC recommendations today say "all people, regardless of vaccination status, should adhere to current guidance to avoid medium- or large-sized in-person gatherings and to follow any applicable local guidance restricting the size of gatherings."

 

I don't know who would set those size limits for cruising, but I presume it will be CDC under the existing vessel sanitation program (or something similar).  Many jurisdictions currently define anything over 50 people to be a medium gathering.  Some are still as low as 10.  Others define it as a percentage of maximum occupancy of a given gathering space.  Of course, there are a handful of states that have made news in the last week with opening everything up again, but I cannot see the CDC giving operators carte blanche to pack people in anywhere they want with no precautions.  It seems pretty clear that while the restrictions will be less onerous than they have been, there will still be restrictions in place for awhile.

And since you only wear a mask in places where specifically told to then you clearly do not see this virus as much of a threat, so why bother getting the vaccine? 🤔

They won’t distance there.  If you are really concerned, stay away from the casino.  If you really want to social distance, stay off a cruise ship.
