Yes, what you saw was the 2nd officer in charge of the fwd mooring deck team. He/she is in contact with the bridge via portable radio. The aft mooring deck has one also

She and her sisters have bow thrusters only. For undocking, the captain will select which of his two azipods he is going to use as his ‘maneuverable’ one, the other stays fixed in the fore-and-aft position

I also tried to look at the signs on the doors of the white trucks, but no go there either!

 

Now someone please explain how I get the excitement of being onboard by just watching a ship leave port?! Dunno but I do! Woo Hoo 🙃

Thank you Roy, we were able to see our future cabin #5223.  Looking forward to August 3, 2022 when we board for our first cruise on the NS, although we loved the size of old Statendam better.
