I thought that part of the reason for the assigned boarding times was to keep the terminal from getting crowded?  I watched a video today and they said that it took them 2 hours to get through the line onto the ship because a lot of people ignored their boarding times and came early and Carnival didn’t want them to have to stand out in the sun so they let them in. Then the arrivals who did come at their assigned times had to wait outside because the lines inside were so long.

But that was the point Firefly333 was trying to explain I think. Yes, today they kinda let the protocols slide in the terminal for embarkation most likely because the ship was empty but next week when they are trying to disembark passengers and embark passengers at the same time they are going to have to be more stringent on who shows up and gets processed at specific times.

I'm not sure why they didn't handle it like they used to and send the people who arrived outside of their appointment time to an early/late line.  Then process the people who had appointments as they arrive, letting the early late line people in a little bit at a time during slow periods.  It sounds like there must have been some disorganization, which is understandable.  Carnival used to be able to handle the people well who arrived outside of their appointment time.

Any thoughts on the elevators? I always hear folks complain about the horizons smart elevators

Rode them twice, in 2018 and 2019.  They should have had a video describing the proper protocol.   Once you pick up how they work, they do work nice.  You just can't cheat them and take the ride and go down to go up.

I really wish carnival would have enforced the times. ..set a precedent. Just will make others next time when it's even more crowded with debarking pax that much worse. I'm for making people come back at their set time. Otherwise why set times if not enforced. I'm with you and hope they do. Its only going to get worse as capacity increases too.

Exactly! Time to start enforcing the rules, and maybe bring some order to this chaos everybody is experiencing. I loathe chaos.

The bar was removed on both the Vista and the Horizon.  I guess we'll find out about the Panorama once she starts up.

Yea, I'll check it out as we're boarding on the 21st of August. Out of Long Beach, apparently the ramp when boarding goes into deck 4, near the casino, instead of the lobby as intended.

I might choose 1030 for vista as I have a hotel, but 130 pm for breeze and drive down the day of.

But if people are allowed to go early or whever they show up and get in line, people like me will choose a earlier time perhaps thinking they will run late.

They do need to enforce times or word will get out. I sure agree i dont want to spend 2 hours in line in the texas heat because some ignore their times and came early. Not good to hear.

Thanks for answering questions!

I’m curious if they are still doing activities in the Oceans Plaza like trivia during the day, crafts, etc?

Also, how about karaoke, comedy shows and non production shows in the main theater like Welcome Aboard, Love & Marriage, Lip Sync Karaoke?

Lastly, is BINGO happening in the same process as before?

Thanks for sharing!  How was the WIFI? Trying to decide if I keep premium package for Nexflix or cancel it before our sailing  on Saturday.

Unless something has changed since my last cruise, streaming sites are blocked, even with the premium.  NCL allows it with their premium, but Carnival historically has not.

Can we collectively ask a question of John (if he is doing another Q&A or if he can simply be accosted while walking down promenade)?  🙂

>>  When will there be a video tour of the Mardi Gras?

It's amazing that we're this close to its first passenger sailing and there's basically nothing out there on her - save some computer renderings and a few mid-construction shots. At least that's all I've come across.

THANKS !!

Tom

Everyone needs to take a deep breath and realize things are not going back to the "way they were" pre pandemic and give the trial process time to sort itself out.  Inconvenience in these times is the least you should expect and you will need to have patience and understanding. Travel will not go back to "normal" right now as there is no "normal" at this point. Enjoy each day with whatever comes your way.

Agreed.

Relax.

What you knew, no longer exists. New normal may not be worse, but it will need time to be shaken down and smoothed out. Maybe they swapped it up some on the fly to see how it would work out? A test?

Just relax

Thanks for responding, but Netflix is supported on The Horizon. However, some have reported slow/spotty service with the start, so wondering if issues were resolved.

Carnival’s website notes the following for premium WIFI.

• Premium Wi-Fi plan provides access to all sites under the Social and Value Plans at the fastest possible connection (3 times faster than the Value Plan)
• Supports Skype calling where coverage allows. Does not support video and music streaming (i.e., Netflix*, Hulu, Spotify, Pandora), cellular-network-dependent Wi-Fi calling and FaceTime services
• Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon and Carnival Sunrise are Netflix enabled, so you can use the Netflix app and your Netflix account to watch your favorite shows

Sorry,if unclear. John Heald just announced the Mardi Gras is coming to escort us out of port.   We see her off in the distance

I'm sitting here crying like a baby !  We're on Horizon December 11th, it was a rebooked cruise as our Mardi Gras in May was cancelled.  I just can't stop crying.

Would it not be easier to just download Netflix stuff to your tablet ahead of time and then just watch it onboard, so you do not have to pay for wifi?

That's what I do....especially since I had no idea that ANY Carnival ship would play Netflix. 😃

They post Youtube vlogs, and did a live video from the Vista yesterday. Don’t think they are on Cruise Critic, but I could be wrong. She did mention FB a few times (which I don’t do).

I fully agree.  Normally our phones stay in the safe while we unplug.  There should be a paper posting of the dinner menu in the display case outside the MDR.  You could old school it with pen and paper instead of the QR code.
