Question about shorts in the MDR

Recommended Posts

Hello

My family and I will be on the Oasis tomorrow and when we were on other cruises on the first night I could wear dress shorts in the MDR.

For the rest of the week can I still do that, or does it become an issue and longs pants are required.

Also any way to know if the ship will be at 100% capacity.

Thank you

Norm

You won't be the only adult wearing shorts in the MDR.

Your vacation dress how you feel.

Was on Allure 3 weeks ago, probably 30% to 40% were wearing shorts.

Only reason for Formal Dress Your Best nights is so Royal can sell photos.

Mrs. Dawg insists I always wear shorts for those photo shoots.  She says I have great legs...

... a little fury, but still, great legs. 😁

Does anyone know if you can wear nice shorts in the specialty restaurants?

My most recent cruise was 8 day Allure in March. Had UDP; ate all but one meal in specialty restaurants. I didn’t even pack a pair of slacks for the trip. Dress shorts and sandals every night

Dress shorts as fine. Not sports shorts though.

Royal doesn't discriminate within the shorts family. Shorts are shorts, and shorts are fine. I am living proof of that as are many many people.

I was on Allie a few weeks ago and saw a guy in long gym shorts and a basketball jersey in chops.  OP.  Don’t worry about it.

You obviously don't understand what the word "code" means. I expect that from a Carnival cruiser, not a Royal cruiser.

FYI, I have never sailed Cunard. Many other lines but not that one (nor SilverSea or Regent). I personally don't care in the slightest about what people wear and I enjoy laughing at most. What I do care about is people following the rules because if they can't follow the simple rules what's going to happen when things get tough (such as an onboard fire or God forbid, a sinking)?

Laugh at me all you want, I'll be the guy dining in comfort while wearing my nice comfortable shorts. Don't look down though or you'll give yourself a hernia as your laughter escalates when you discover I'm also wearing gasp, flip flops.

Don't worry. I will.

Yes.  We used to get all fired up about what to wear in the main dining room, then it was "will grandma make it through this pandemic without dying?", and now it's "who cares what we wear, WE'RE CRUISING AGAIN!!!!".

It's great to be able to get this info before boarding.   Less stress.  Just wondering,  if you wear shorts to the MDR, can you wear them the rest of the night?

OK, to be perfectly honest:

I was taken aback by the guy in the Diamond Lounge wearing these:

He looked like he was wearing his underwear at first glance.

hope he didnt sit down or his twig and berries would have been on display😱

Yes, you can wear shorts in the MDR and specialty restaurants...no one will stop you.

* I continue to bring nice slacks for one reason...we were once invited to a Captain's Table dinner...and genuinely hoping to be invited again, someday.
