Gearing up for Halloween in our household. Should be a fun weekend. My parents are on day 3 of their European river cruise. They are having a great time and sharing some fabulous photos. Today they were in Koblenz where two rivers meet.

The Rhine and the Moselle!  We were there Three Weeks Ago.  I hope I get this question on a quiz!

Once we had a vet who always wanted to tell me that 99 times out of a 100 this or that bad thing won't happen.  I finally had to ask him to quit saying that since we always seemed to be number 100.  It seems to still hold true for us.

When I got to the hospital, I learned that DH had developed a fever over night, and it still has not broken.  The nurses are giving him Tylenol and another drug to try to lower the fever.  They also have the a/c turned down and all but one sheet off of him in an attempt to disapate his body heat.  As the nurse says, it's miserable for him, but good for lowering his temperature.

The hospitalist was by to check him and said his lungs did not sound bad, and that yesterday's chest x-ray looked clear.  The incisions look good too.  Dr. Allen ordered a covid test and a flu test in an abundance of caution.  At least, Dr. Allen didn't seem too concerned.

The nurses have left messages with the surgeon's office and the rehab facility doctor to see what they want to do about the transfer today.  Even though the rehab facility is a hospital, they may want to wait a day or two, but that's just speculation on my part.

So now, it's hurry up and wait.  If it's a no go today, I hope I can get my room at the hotel back.  The one good thing was DH ate all his breakfast again today.

Good morning.  Our run of great weather is taking a breather today.  It is blustery and wet.  A good day to stay home and get caught up.   Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports.   I will pass on mincemeat, my Dad was the only one that enjoyed it.   Horseless Carriages were a wonderful invention and a very good quote from Einstein.   I will pass on the tacos, I spot the dreaded cilantro on each.   The drink looks like a good poolside cocktail.  I am not a fan of Prosecco but La Marca is a decent one.   Thanks for the port photos Sandi and Lenda.   Lenda I hope things are going better for your DH.

My brother is not doing well and could use some prayers.  Yesterday he called and said he was in terrible pain and I asked him to go to the ER where he had his surgery.  He went by ambulance to the tiny local hospital instead and spent time there and ended on another transfer by ambulance to the hospital where he had his surgery.  I think they will be doing exploratory surgery today as they suspect infection.   He has said multiple times he regrets getting this surgery and instead just limp along with his bum knee.   Getting into the health care system is fraught with danger.  One thing I left behind in Baltimore was my friends who were MDs and I could get a referral into the great hospitals they have there quickly.    I will keep everyone posted.

My friend Frank continues to do well, I mainly text with him when the Packers (his team) or the Ravens are on.

Prayers for all on our care list and for the people in Florida and Ukraine.    Have a wonderful day.  It is a day of cleaning out a closet and getting started packing for the long cruise.

I'm sorry your brother is having so much pain, and I hope things improve for him soon.  If it's any consolation to either of you, we had a dear friend who developed an infection after her hip replacement.  They cleared up the infection and did another hip replacement.  She had no more problems.

Good morning Dailyites. Finally getting light outside at 7:30.

I think I would like the Thai tacos. We have several bottles of La Marca in our fridge. The quote by Einstein is so "Einstein-esq"

Thinking of Lenda and Steve as he gets settled into his room. There are many friends here pulling for you.

Today we go to Killeen for an assessment on my sweet husband. (Back) Tomorrow we go to Salado for another. (Diabetes) Friday to Leander for bloodwork and Monday a final assessment in Pflugerville. Can't the VA just get us into ONE location for all these assessments!! Jeez.

I salute and pray for all our troops. Every day.

Mincemeat is sometimes good but most times not..

Prayers lifted for all our Daily family. Blessings and Cheers. Xx

Joy, that doesn't make sense having to go to all the different VA clinics instead of just one.  I hope all the assessments have good results.

Good afternoon. We had a wonderful evening at the Papal Palace. Great food, lot’s of wine and great musicians. Of course the historical setting really topped the evening off.

Today we visited one of the noted wine areas in the world Chateauneuf du Pape which means new home of the Pope. There is still some remains of their summer home. Enjoyed a nice wine tasting and stroll through the village.

It’s our turn tonight for the small special dinner with Chef Voltaggio and our boats Executive Chef. More pounds!

Thanks for the reports.

Au voir.

Pics don’t want to load right now!🙁

Bruce, I'm very happy you are enjoying your cruise and all that food.

Good morning everyone from a very very foggy NJ.Heading back to the PT balance center for an evaluation on how I’m doing since I left back in early June. I haven’t been good about doing my exercises so am hoping they will consider me to be ok.

I always love seeing everyone’s pictures so I can travel vicariously.

Waiting for a call back from my infectious disease doctor to see if I can take the new booster for covid. If not, I face another winter locked up.

Stay safe everyone,

Carol

Carol, hope the PT evaluation shows good results.  I also hope your doctor lets you get the booster.

Good morning!  We are going to vote this morning.  I just wish that would turn off all the ads and emails.  At least we don’t get political text messages- my neighbor told me he gets lots of those too.

Yesterday learned that only vaccination I will need before cruise is typhoid which only lasts 2 years.

Best wishes to all!

I got one political text this week from a candidate I cannot support.  I don't watch TV much because of the political ads.  What is annoying is all the poliitical ads that show up on my tablet when I am playing games.  At least, I keep the sound off.

Welcome home 🙂

My prayers are with you and him 🙏🏻

So kind of you to do this for Lenda and us 👍

Praying that everything goes smoothly for your DH and you today 🙏🏻 Please, if you are too tired - don’t risk the drive.  It can be very tricky when you are tired and stressed. 😞

Kazu, when DH is tranferred, I will be heading home.  I don't want to spend the night in Waco.  We're about an hour from the rehab facility.

However, we found out the transfer is definitely off for today.  They want to get his temperature down and hopefully find the cause.  They have ruled out the flu and covid.  When possible, they plan to test for a UTI.  If that's negative, the fever of an unknown origin is a possibility.

I did a quick trip back to the hotel and was able to get my room back.  I also have it reserved for tomorrow just in case.  I will  check with the hospital before I check out tomorrow.  I know they don't have anything for the weekend.

Right now, this is such a good place to come, and it is so caring.   ❤️  There are no words to express how much everyone's support and caring mean to me.

Lots and lots of pictures of Phu My , the Port to Saigon today hope I am not boring you with all of mine that I posted a year ago . They are different from what I have seen so far ……...

We have had the pleasure to get to Phu My a couple of times and the last time was on Jan 23, 2020 , ……...on the legendary Westerdam , the ship that the BBC on the news called the “Phantom “ ship because we were roaming the sea's for so long trying to find a port that would except us to get back on land .........

This was just a couple of days before Chinese New Year so I might need a couple of posts to show my pictures going on a small group tour with Nguyen Tri Dung . From the port we went directly to Ho Chi Minh City  ( the former Saigon )

Does anybody have an exemption letter they have use for a cruise that you would share. Our doctor isn’t sure of the wording.

Dixie, we just got home from some shopping and I took a look at the Daily before we eat lunch.  I have some examples I found by searching and thought I'd post them now because I know you don't have a lot of time to do this.

https://www.nathnacyfzone.org.uk/media_lib/mlib-uploads/full/exemption-from-vaccination-sample.pdf

This one is short and sweet, as they say:

Try a search online for something similar if these aren't what you want.

I see some important things have happened this morning and will address them after lunch, but just know I am thinking of you all and praying for those involved with the latest developments.

I especially like the second one.  Note especially that the letter should stat the exemption is only valid for a single trip.

Thank you for today’s Daily, Rich. Thank you for keeping our lists, Roy!

Totally dark here right now. Bindi did not want to go out. I need to leave for an early dermatology appointment. I am hoping this is my last “every three months” one, since there have been no repeats of the melanoma found two years ago. 🤞🏻

La Marca Prosecco

A sharp contrast to yesterdays sparkling wine, this one can be found almost everywhere and has very good ratings. Prices start at $14.98 online. You might find it for less locally.

Winemaker Notes

The delicate La Marca Prosecco has a pale, golden straw color and sparkles with lively effervescence. Opening with aromas of fresh-picked citrus and honeysuckle blossoms, the crisp, clean palate brings fruity flavors of green apple, juicy peach and ripe lemon, framed by hints of minerality. The finish is light and refreshing with a tantalizing hint of sweetness.

Always serve La Marca Prosecco chilled between 46-50°F. A versatile Italian Sparkling wine, La Marca Prosecco can be served in sparkling flutes or white wine glasses. A full bottle serves approximately 5-7 glasses. After pouring the first round, seal the opened bottle with a bottle stopper to keep remaining wine fresh and effervescent and keep the wine chilled to 46-50°F. An opened bottle should last about 3-4 hours with the bottle closure.

La Marca Prosecco has the charm to stand alone as an aperitif, but it also has the body and the acidity to pair well with a range of foods, from seafood and mild cheeses to rich pasta dishes and decadent desserts.
87 Wine Enthusiast

Good luck at your dermatology appointment and hopefully you get the all clear.

Graham.

A rather busy day here on the Daily.  I have lots of things I want to comment on, but first I wanted to tell you yesterday was my niece Amy's birthday.  Her mom, my twin, told me last night that they were going to a restaurant for dinner with Amy and her two grown "kids".  Good for her to have the company on this first birthday since Amy's husband Buddly died in July.  But what really got to me was my twin told me she saw on her phone app which allows you to keep tabs on members of your family, that Amy had stopped at the cemetery on her way home from work yesterday.  It's only been a little over 3 months now since Buddy has been gone.  It's not easy for widows (or widowers) to celebrate the holidays/birthdays that first year, and I know many of you here would agree with that having been through it yourselves.  I can't imagine yet how it would feel, but I am thinking more about that as the years quickly go by.  Prayers for all suffering the grief of losing your loved ones!🙏

Also before I forget many thanks to @*Miss G*and @richwmnfor the excellent instructions on how to use internet on a HAL ship.  I've personally never had internet on HAL, but have had it before on Princess and Seabourn.  Our upcoming HAL Amazon cruise will be the first time we've used it, so I appreciate all the instructions.  Thank you both.

Carol

Good luck with getting the booster shot.  Also hope the evaluation at the PT center goes well.  I am still doing PT exercises 6 times a week for my bad knee which is a bother, but doing my best to keep the pain levels down.

I'm so sorry to hear of the renewed pain for your DB!  I hope the doctors can get to the root of the problem and get him back on his feet.  Nice to hear Frank is doing well.  Good luck with your cruise packing.🚢

Xx

Joy, I agree about having to run all over for tests, when they probably could consolidate them better at one VA hospital.  Praying for Allen that all the tests come back great!  Prayers for him offered up!🙏

Hope you can get that typhoid shot well before your cruise.  I've never had one of those before.  As for political text messages that we get each election period, I've had my cell number for several decades but continually get texts addressed to Joyce, asking that person to vote the opposite of my own political leanings.  It's such a pain, and I continually text back STOP but different groups just continue texting me.  I guess I wouldn't mind if I agreed with them!  😂

Happy Wednesday Morning!  It did rain last night, and this morning the sun is shining, ...well it was a few minutes ago.  Seems to  have become a bit darker.... oh well, weather will do what weather will do.

I love mincemeat pie and mincemeat cake (the type of mincemeat when no actually meat is involved) and miss my Mom's pies at Holiday time.

Yesterday our little campaign group were yelled at via text that we were not working fast enough.  That we should be making 40 calls an hour, and be talking with 1.67 people every hour.. (1.67?) 1. you can dial til the cows some home, but you cannot make someone answer.  and 2.  the office cat requires petting constantly which interferes with dialing.  Well I immediately starting calling faster, and someone  picked up, and told me all the things that were wrong with my campaign, and that took 45 minutes.  Does that count as the .67?

@ottahand7 I feel for your brother,  I am hearing more and more, that "I" shouldnt have had that surgery.  I hope that they can get things right with him....DH with a hip replacement that didn't solve the pain, and Shari several years ago when they rebuilt her heel with shark cartilage....

@grapau27Thank you for the food porn.  Steak and fries, best meal ever.  Happy early birthday...

@StLouisCruisers thank you for the pictures and for posting those of @Quartzsite Cruiser

@Quartzsite Cruiser glad things are going as planned, hope the transfer to the rehab goes well, and drive carefully on your way home.  Get some rest, and maybe "the kids" can come down again, and help with "visits" too.  (you might want to throw in some warm clothes for you in the car, and sweaters for your DH)

Not having much luck on the quitting, but am not smoking as much. .keeping tabs, and writing them all down.  However @rafinmd I think DH and I should not take up space on the "list"...I think everyone does understand the severity of a complete life change, but this change is for the better.

Right now I'm like

Late today - early morning appointment to pick up a pack of covid tests & to the car dealership.

I guess I am celebrating Horseless Carriage Day sitting here at the dealership.  SUV is getting service and it’s MVI (please don’t find anything else wrong).  No loaners of course and since they prioritized it I’m waiting here.

Thanks for the Daily Rich. It's a beautiful day here in Oklahoma City. Sunny and highs in the 60's. Relatively low wind for once. I think the tacos sound great. I don't believe I have ever had mincemeat!

Gearing up for Halloween in our household. Should be a fun weekend. My parents are on day 3 of their European river cruise. They are having a great time and sharing some fabulous photos. Today they were in Koblenz where two rivers meet.

Welcome to the Daily!  (unless you've stopped by before and I've forgotten -- it's possible!)  Hope your parents have been enjoying their river cruise.  And happy halloween to your family.👻

Thank you for your good wishes.

I stopped smoking 45 years ago after a few attempts of stopping.

My way was to write down everything bad about smoking including primarily all the health risks, smoke smell on my  clothes and my skin, bad breath, the cost of cigarettes etc.

My doctor asked me to write everything down for him to use as part of his stop smoking campaign and I was happy to do that and to  hear I helped several people quit smoking was very pleasing.

Graham

Great idea on helping people to stop smoking.  I think Annie and Chuck should take your advice and see how that helps them.  And congratulations on stopping 45 years ago!

When you connect to the ship's wifi it should bring you to a login screen. There you would use your username and password just like on your desktop or navigator app.

If it doesn't automatically go to the login screen, go to navigator.hollandamerica.com and you can log in there.

Thanks again to you and @*Miss G*for your help on this.

I'm sorry your brother is having so much pain, and I hope things improve for him soon.  If it's any consolation to either of you, we had a dear friend who developed an infection after her hip replacement.  They cleared up the infection and did another hip replacement.  She had no more problems.

Joy, that doesn't make sense having to go to all the different VA clinics instead of just one.  I hope all the assessments have good results.

Bruce, I'm very happy you are enjoying your cruise and all that food.

Carol, hope the PT evaluation shows good results.  I also hope your doctor lets you get the booster.

I got one political text this week from a candidate I cannot support.  I don't watch TV much because of the political ads.  What is annoying is all the poliitical ads that show up on my tablet when I am playing games.  At least, I keep the sound off.

Lenda

I'm so sorry to hear Steve has a fever!  I hope they eventually do figure out why and get that temp down soon.  Sorry about the delay to the rehab hospital, too, and I'm glad to hear you were able to get your room back at the hotel.  Thanks for keeping us updated.  We're all here to support you and keep you both in our prayers.🙏

@Seasick Sailor That does seem like an obsessive amount of running around.  Have  you asked about consolidating some of that into one location?

I tried. I called the VA and asked what the story was. They told me these were the closest offices to get an independent review. The VA has already done a review and hires out for the independent review's..

Have been dashing about but did take time to read through today's daily. My best wishes and most positive thoughts to all of you getting unpleasant and unexpected undesirable surprises today. Why can't things go smoothly!!

I was up early to take my Bandit dog (Shih Tzu) in to the vet for removal of several masses on the skin. Dr. H does think they are  not cancer but several will be biopsied. Picked the little man up just a few minutes ago - he is wearing the "cone of shame". Hopefully he will sleep for awhile. I have several meetings at the shelter this afternoon and evening and will have to decide if he goes with me or not. Was reminded that this is the kind of day my Mother used to say "Not sure if I am ready to face the day. On the other hand - the day has to face me".

Take care all. I would love some of those Tacos tonight.

Susan
