American cruise passengers missing from Falmouth on Tuesday, April 26 (Oasis?)

Here is a link to her blog, with her "explanation..

I read her blog. It appears they left the ship and then returned to it and got ship's cards issued to them again. The got off the ship again to explore the port. The way they missed the ship was a list of questionable decisions and endless errors. They seemed a little clueless about getting back to the ship on time.

Her concerns about the hours and wages for the employees on the ship are shared by many people who cruise. She left the ship because of it and the food issues. It was the passport problem that brought her back to the ship.

I am relieved they are safe and I hope she gets back to San Diego without getting arrested for being in Jamaica illegally. The US Embassy were a big help to her in providing an emergency passport so she can travel.

What a drama queen! Her "story" is not very credible. I wonder who she claims told her she could sign a waiver to leave Labadee? People from this forum have been allowed to leave the secured area after lots of legwork and approval and only for humanitarian reasons.

Thank you, tutzig, for for the link to her blog; that explained everything. The couple sounds like a couple who did not do enough research for the vacation to...1) know your passport must expire 6 months post cruise 2) crew do get paid low wages, but they knowingly sign on because it's more than they'd make back home 3) what the food onboard is like.

This story underscores the importance of using a TA.

Hope they have learned their lesson and make it home safely!

Unless things are radically different on the Oasis, I call shenanigans on the "I'm a vegan and there was nothing to eat" thing. There was a vegan couple on the Great Alaskan Running Cruise I was on on the Radiance last summer and honestly the rest of the group were seriously pondering becoming vegan for the length of the cruise because their CUSTOM MADE DISHES looked and smelled - and according to them - tasted amazing.

And I agree. They did far too little research on all aspects of cruising (which can easily be done without a TA, but you have to take responsibility for it) - though given all her restrictions and whatnot, I think an isolated cabin in the mountains with no connection to the outside world might be more up their alley.

After reading her blog I also agree they did not do much research on their vacation. Obviously she likes being in the limelight, just read her blog. Not watching their time and getting back late was definitely a big mistake. I didn't see in her blog where they called Royal Caribbean ti ask for the ship to return. Hopefully for their next vacation they will do research before they go.

Wow! That was quite the adventure. Of all the cruise stories I've read here on Cruise Critic this has to be number one when it comes to exemplifying you can't fix stupid.

I AGREE TOTALLY!! The only reasonable explanation for this situation could be an overload of Ganja!:eek::eek:

Her blog sounds like she's full of it.

I have had so many friends recommend RC because they are so accommodating when it comes to food requests. I'm severely allergic to shrimp/lobster/crab and they made sure to check with me on everything. One friend with celiac said she had the gluten-free time of her life on her cruise. I know other vegans and vegetarians and none of them have ever had a problem.

No need to be rude. I wasn't rude to you - I simply asked a question that probably everyone who read your post was thinking also. Since you claim to know a lot about this, it seems natural to ask how you came to know this.

.

Langley, you were rude. "And how do you..." Is a rude way to start a question.

How about, "That is very interesting, how did you come to find out this important information?"

I agree. As I said above, I was cruising in a group with a vegan couple and on several nights we ate at the same table. The first night, yes, was a much more limited menu as the chef made sort of a "standard vegan" meal. The head server came over and talked with them and they were given a choice of a few types of cuisine - that happened the first couple of nights and then they said "He's doing great so far. We're not picky as long as it's vegan. Tell him whatever he wants to fix with that constraint is fine." And like I said, several of us were contemplating becoming vegan for the week because theirs looked and smelled so much better than the stuff on the menu!

I hadn't even mentioned my peanut sensitivity (it's not a full-blown reaction so far...yes, I carry Benadryl, and yes, when we can convince the insurance company that it COULD become more serious so they'll cover an epi pen I'll have that, but I refuse to pay almost $500 for something that SHOULD be covered for an adult-onset sensitivity/allergy!!) to our group escort this time, but she remembered from the previous year and mentioned it to our servers who yes, double checked about everything - to the point that the one time we were given one different server among our group, the one I usually had (we rotated among a group of tables) came flying over to let me know that there was one thing on the menu that looked safe but probably would not be for me (wish I could remember what it was to let others know - I just know it wasn't something I was considering anyway) because he realized the new to us guy didn't know.

So yeah... Assuming they did actually contact the cruiseline in advance about the vegan thing, I definitely call shenanigans on the food issue. (Though I have heard that while food issues can be accommodated in the specialty restaurants, there is much more consistency and adaptability in the MDR.)

+1

Concerns about the environment on board, the crew, the food and more could have been researched in advance and perhaps they may have discovered cruising is not for them before they ever set foot aboard. A heart full of passion and a head full of naivete while "off the schedule" in an unfamiliar place can lead to all sorts of unexpected outcomes. Luckily for them, they are alive and safe.

Weirdest part of this is the fact that several days after being on a cruise this woman "suddenly" realizes she left her passport on the kitchen counter at home. Really??? These two people are definitely a couple that deserve each other [emoji57] And to top it off, her story just rambles on into a confusing manifesto [emoji849]

OMG, I need my hip boots after reading that blog, so much BS in there. For one she's a vegan and had a veggie patty in Jamaica probably from a local vendor but she was worried about the food on the ship? They were conveniently near Negril? I'll bet that was there destination to start with. And it's about 1 1/2 hour drive from MoBay. So much doesn't add up.

But this was a fun read[emoji3]

Quite a list of future cruises but I'm pretty sure you're missing one for 2017 :)

They were gonna smuggle fruit on board so they would have fresh food for the rest of the week?

A) You're not allowed to bring fresh fruit/veggies on board.

and

B) There have literally been PILES of fresh fruit available EVERY SINGLE DAY of EVERY SINGLE CRUISE I have ever been on. Did they ever even leave their room? The MDR has a HUGE display of fruit at lunchtime -- not to mention the amazingly delicious Tutti Salad Bar -- plus all the fruit and salad fixings in the Windjammer!

The poor "suffering" workers on board... puh-lease!!! Suffering people don't greet you with a huge smile on their face, or do magic tricks, or tell jokes. And they CERTAINLY don't sign up for contract after contract after contract with the same cruise line, for more than a decade, because they're treated so poorly!

Yep, this is TOTALLY a drama princess. Too bad they let her back into the country....

In a story with more hole than swiss cheese, this is the sinlge biggest hole-----not being able to find fresh fruit, and fresh fruit, on a ship? That is simply laughable.

Nothing adds up at all. I really wonder what the real story is and if we will ever know it.

Looks like a story a middle school student would write. Complete fiction, imo. . Wondering if there was motive to buy drugs and bring home. Total speculation, but the story on the blog seems way off to me. I can only imagine the number of stories RCI staff has to share about their guests. I wouldn't like to be the staff responding to guest antics like this.
