Booked my first solo

Good for you! I wish it was cheaper for Carnival solos so I could cruise more often (can only convince DH to cruise about every 2 years or so).

I still paid the double occupancy rate, but it was a special and I had my VIFP and state discount this time. Worked out to $95 a day. Can't beat that for cabin, food, and everything else. Land vacations for the same period were going to cost me at least $300 more than that.

When I first started cruising, Carnival would often have the lowest category inside cabins (1A? 4A?) priced at 150% for solos. I don't sail Carnival as much since they quit doing that.

Nice! I love sailing solo.

I just booked my first solo on the Victory leaving September 10. It's WAY too long to wait for our Horizon cruise in 2019. Besides that, I need to see the sea!

Enjoy it but from Horizon to Victory is a big step down.

HOW DID you manage to get it for $95.00/ day....from a double occupancy rate????

Yep...double occupancy rate. I found it on the "today's deals" section of Carnival's website. It's after final payment date for that cruise, so they dropped fares I guess. I paid $360 for a 4 day. Even at the double occupancy rate, it's a steal in my opinion.

Good for you. My last cruise was my first Solo, and the next three booked are Solo. It's a good time. I would rather sail with my other half, but he does not get anywhere near the PTO that I get, and I am not wasting those on staying at home. :')

Hello there, i am recently widowed and i love to sail. The costs seem so high on carnival. Does carnival ever give a break? Are there groups where people are looking for a cruise partner? I really want to sail again. Thanks so much.

Carnival doesn't offer special prices for solos from what I can see. I only happened upon this one from checking the today's deals section on their website.

Royal Caribbean and NCL have special solo cabins, but their prices don't seem cheaper than the double occupancy rate on most cabins.

For me, the price I paid (even though it was the full double rate) was worthwhile when compared to land vacations for the same period of time. Even with airfare to the port, I come out ahead.

There is a solo cruisers board here too...you might find other hints there.

I guess you need to decide what a good deal is for you, then just go when it comes up!

I have 3 solo cruises booked for me. , 2 are with RCCL. The other is with Carnival. 2 of them, 6 nights each, at the time of booking were great deals. $110 a night for the first one, with an overnight in Cuba. 2nd one is about $119 a night. The 3rd one is going to be on the refurbished Carnival Triumph/Sunrise, averages about $180 a night. little more, but I'm looking forward to the smaller ships!!

Love to cruise solo...

I've gotten deals on casino bounceback rates:

My best price was $317 for 7 days to Bermuda on Pride from Baltimore in April with a $200 OBC. (inside cabin)

Then I got: (from the April sailing)

Next up; September on Pride...7 day Bahamas from Baltimore...$127.00 port charges.....$200 OBC (premium balcony)

You never know...:D:D:D

I am considering a solo cruise also. My only concern is safety being alone at the different ports. Example: Being in a taxi by myself in Cozumel going to Mr. Sanchos for the day. Any advice on this?
You could ask on your roll call if anyone is also going there and share a cab ride. Carnival does a great job of putting solo pax at dinner tables with other solos, they often become your social network on the ship, so one of them might also want to join you.

I am taking my first solo in November on Victory. I am also going to Mr. Sancho's for the day. My plan is to post in my roll call or on the blue Book of the Face and see if anyone wants to share a cab. Doesn't mean I have to hang with them for the day, just the cab ride. If we want to head back to the ship at different times, I will just ask around until I find a share for the ride back to the ship.
