Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Recommended Posts

@Sea Dog.  Have a wonderful day today.  You have had such a rewarding career and deserve all the celebrations that will happen🤩.  Make sure to have tissues in your pocket.

Yes we do occassionally get into Philly as our son Chris and fiance live and work there.   We like steve prince of steaks in northeast philly but if we go to south philly we usually go to Pat's.  We prefer mozzarella or provolone cheese vs cheez whizz on our cheesesteaks.

I'm out of control.  I just turned our 3.27 sailing for Eric's birthday into a b2b and booked the 3.20 sailing.  Same cruise itinerary but we had a free casino offer and same balcony was available.  Couldn't resist.   Still have another freebie to use.

Son Chris and fiance may use one of those free cabins and join us.

MRI and PET scan can be used to look at amyloid  deposits and metabolic activity which are thought to correlate with present or future dementia issues but it's value is still in flux.

And getting an insurance company to cover the tests just to "know where you stand" is unlikely.

@HBE4

As a "laywoman", I assumed that may be the amyloid deposits may precede, by a good number of years, the onset of the disease. Allowing an individual, with "history" / predilection / genes to prepare for the future [like taking early retirement, living the "day" and not the "future", making financial arrangements, etc.]

My assumption was based on the cases [in Israel] where a woman [mainly from Ashkenazi / Eastern European ancestry] has a first-degree relative who had breast / ovarian cancer.

First, she is entitled / eligible to a free BRCA test.

2) If she has the mutation, and she decides to take "preventive measures", the insurance is paying for a mastectomy / oophorectomy, and for the "reconstruction" [if this is the case].

We had a very interesting and fun dinner last night.  We went to a place called the Salty Pelican.  It's not at all fancy and is popular with locals and tourists alike.  It was a little crowded (usually is) so we sat at the bar rather than waiting for a table.  We like eating at the bar.  It's easier to talk to each other and you often end up talking with the bartenders and others seated next to you.

On our right were 3 people who were transporting a yacht to the Bahamas.  The guy who was right next to us grew up on one of the fairly remote islands of Alaska in the southern part of the state.  He's one of those guys who has had a job doing just about everything at one point or another.  Whenever they are transporting ships, they like to dock overnight at the Fernandina marina and eat at the Salty Pelican.  Fascinating guy to talk to.

On our left were Georgia Bulldog fans.  This Saturday is the huge game between Georgia and Florida that is always played at a neutral field in Jacksonville.  It's known as the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.  Friends here have warned us that Georgia fans will take over the island for the weekend, as it's an easy drive from here to TIAA Bank Field where the game is played.  We also have a large airport here and several private jets usually fly in today or early tomorrow for the wealthier alumni.  Lots of other Georgia fans walking around proudly wearing their team's colors.  The people next to us were also fun to talk to, with a little bit of mild Georgia vs. Ohio State (my team) banter going back and forth.

Neither of these dinner conversations would have ever happened in Cincinnati. 😁

I know you said you like to eat at the bar…but I thought I’d mention that you can put your name on the waitlist via the Yelp app.  We’ve done that before and only waited 15 minutes for a table when the poor hostess was quoting a two hour wait…

We prefer drinking at bar, we make reservations for our favorite table a week ahead , we always get the same huge booth , place has live music and we are friends with many of the musicians. Had 50 mph winds yesterday so had small waves in our pool .

The excitement of getting our new driveway yesterday was short lived. They ripped out the old driveway and graded the driveway and added truckloads of new base material. That all got compacted and water is just draining out of the hill. There is still standing water 24 hours after all this was done. They just came to pave and left. 😕  We now are expecting 1 to 2 inches more rain tomorrow. 👎 No chance this can be paved until at least Tuesday. No trick or treating at our house this year.

I may need to look into meeting you in person on the cruise to get a Painkiller at the Soggy Dollar Bar.  Their current view (sigh):

Let's do! That would be awesome. I look at the SD webcam at least once a day.

Greg,

Congratulations on your retirement. You have worked long and hard to reach this goal. Your awards are a testament to what you have accomplished. Now it is time to relax and "Cruise into Retirement" with Linda. It is well deserved.

And as others have said, If you can squeeze the "Bella" Cruise into your schedule, that would be fantastic.

Just a quick chime in and I will catch up on the weekend. Busy with sports, work, etc…

Off to the last regular season football game in an hour.  Weather forecast at kick off…. It isn’t going to get any better all day and night.

After that we travel an hour further from home for a hockey game at 7pm. Won’t be home until 9:30 if we are lucky.

How about a couple sunrise photos from a few days ago. Who ordered the crows?  Mr Hitchcock, That’s the last thing I want to see before Halloween.

What Covid restrictions does Hawaii have in place now?  I remember that they had a very strict quarantine requirement but I'm assuming that's been relaxed.

Hawaii has one of the strictest travel requirements of any state. They’ve established this Safe Travel Program which requires tourists and returning residents to provide proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test to avoid quarantine.  You have to fill out this Safe Travel Program form where you upload all your information before you enter Hawaii.

Currently, proof of vaccinations are required for indoor dining and events.  Masks are required indoors.  Restaurants are 50% capacity. Outdoors is mixed.  Some wear them, some don’t.

The governor now is giving the green light for tourists to resume their travels here by Nov. 1.  If the daily infection rate gets below 100,  he said he would lift some restrictions by the end of the year.  He may consider lifting the restaurant capacity requirement and the mask mandate.  The average daily infection rate is something like 121.

I’ve mentioned before that our oldest lives in the suburbs of Philly.  We’ve never been to either Pat’s or Gino’s, have only had cheesesteaks in the city at Jim’s and think they’re great.  I’m like you & prefer provolone. Cheez Whizz wouldn’t do it for me.

Love your sweet kitty, @Lionesss.

Since it's National Cat Day, here's a memory of Miss Priss, who we lost this year.  I think that @Keksie's  Samantha is going to look a lot like her.

That’s a gorgeous sky! I know the old saying, “Red sky at morning, sailors take warning “, but I think such beauty was a good omen.
Football season came and went in a hurry up there. Owen must be really good at multitasking; it will take him far in life!

I am going to meet a new kitty at the animal shelter this afternoon. She is 2 years old and was already spayed when she came to the shelter as a stray. It makes me sad to think she had a family at one point and what might have happened. I hope she likes us.

Pictures of the new baby please??   🤗

White meat = White wine

Red meat = Red wine

At least that is what I was taught. I find my personal preference to be:

Any food = Any wine

No food = Any wine.

LOL!!!   A perfect wine choice for sure!!  😄 😄
