Splurge for a new kitchen. "Me" thinks it is a "room" you get to enjoy daily...

A good chunk of my "saved" dollars from not cruising went into two fully remodeled bathrooms.  Oh yippee...sooo much more fun than cruising.....NOT!!  😉

Of course not.

But, the last year, and may be this one too, gave us lemons....

Best ask @John&LaLa how they are the second best to cruising 😎

Doing some pandemic traveling today.  It was the first time flying in just over a year.  Didn’t feel too nervous, since we are in the fully vaccinated category.

Security line was about a 10 minute wait at Pittsburgh.

There was a full plane load waiting to board our flight to Fort Lauderdale.  How did I miss that it was spring break when I booked this little getaway?

We got an email before our flight, saying it would be full, and all the seats were filled.

They are still doing little snacks.

Somehow, if the plane was to scale, we should have been there sooner.

But this definitely beats that long stretch of cold and snow we had.

MMM. Yes. Same thing here. Only child, joint tenancy with my mom. Took over both houses......and looking at significant capital gains taxes, and trying to avoid them as much as possible. :classic_biggrin::classic_biggrin::classic_biggrin::classic_biggrin:

My youngest is an accountant, currently studying for CPA.  She thinks we’ll only have to pay capital gains on the difference between fair mkt value of the house when it was signed to me in 2002, and the selling price, minus any improvements made during that time. Hope she’s right!

Long story short, the entire first floor on the back of our house was demo'd down to the drywall.

We moved to this house 3 1/2 yrs ago, downsized from the big family home 3500 sq ft to 2300. Our intention was to find a fixer upper we could do over ourselves. Learned my Dad had stage 4 lung cancer & figured we wouldn’t have time to focus on a full gut & remodel so we bought this house that was a flip - fully remodeled & all major items done. Since then we’ve redone the hall bath, upgraded all the appliances, built a finished laundry room off half bath in the lower level, new front walkway and steps/entry to front door, added frameless glass doors & new vanity in master bath.  Still want to replace the kitchen island - it’s an L shape & not really functional.  Good thing we didn’t buy a fixer upper LOL!  DH loves to say

he’s afraid to stand still too long or he might be replaced 😆.

Since we are both working from home, and weather is finally nice, DH and I started new lunchtime tradition of walking the dogs.  Today we saw a helicopter circling and learned that a fugitive is on the loose in our neighborhood!!  Exciting!

Fugitives  are everywhere and frequently helicopters are being used. I see more k-9 are being used than ever before. Glad my dog passed cause I would never leave the house night or day to walk a dog.

I have apps on my cell and do not leave the house until I research the crime around me.

And now that we are about a year in, it is time to clean them again or your group membership is lost. I have to do the freezer this week as I am planning a run to the meat packers.

I had to do that a while ago. Do you know what a freezer looks like after 2 bottles of champagne exploded in it? 😱 🤣 It was a huge mess.

Love the pictures singinalot, and also the food porn, Bob.

Today I was finally able to get on CC, kept getting booted off and a notice came up to try later.

So went shopping and had no trouble getting on now.

Wonder if anyone else noticed what was going on with CC.

Stay healthly

I also had problems today.

We have a new fridge coming today! The old one was 30 years old, and came with the house. I didn’t dare take apart the crispers for cleaning, because they looked brittle, and it was leaking.

Eventually, the kitchen will have work done to it, but we’re not sure how extensive. We like the granite countertops, but unfortunately the floor is the original sheet vinyl, complete with “dirt dimples”. I have tried to get it clean, but failed. We may just tile around the cabinets. The cabinets are good quality, but dated, and in some cases, a bit worn. Probably we will re-stain or paint.

If anyone has ideas, we will welcome them!

You can find some great ideas on how to refresh your kitchen the hgtv website.

if you don't want to get involved with an extensive renovation I would paint the cabinets, paint the walls and tear out the floor and install new tile.

Several years ago I did a refresh by painting my cabinets, turned out really nice.    Many years ago I had re-stained cabinets and that was a project I would never do again.    Became very involved and painting is so much easier.   I like the look of darker color cabinet on the bottom and white or brighter color for the uppers.

browse hgtv website I'm sure you find some ideas.

The average kitchen renovation in the US costs $30,000 to $40,000 USD ---- some much higher depending on size and finishes selected.

Last year I had a quote to redo mine and was something like $35,000 (without appliances) and that wasn't high end finishes.

I just took a walk. Temps warming up a little bit here in Northern New Jersey. Here is a photo of the Hackensack River ..... a few blocks from my house. Hackensack (the city of) is referenced in a Billy Joel song. This is not the city of Hackensack, but the river which runs about 45 miles long in NJ and NY.  Was looking pretty this evening.

Best to all of you.

I’ve seen blown bottles of beer, and that was bad enough.

Nice day here today. A little cool at 60F but bright sun and not a cloud in the sky. We decided to do a little exploring. Started by visiting a park that is on the west/marsh/intracoastal waterway side of the island. Would be a great place to watch the sunset with a glass of wine.

We then drive about 10 miles south to the Little Talbot Island State Park. Lots of hiking and biking trails and beach access, although too cold and windy for the beach today. Lots of sea foam. We’ve been told that this is natural from microorganisms in the ocean rather than pollution.

Finished with a drive out on our local beach.

I heard some melting ice and snow slide off of our roof, and crash land on the laneway. It was a lovely day.😉
