I'm a huge mystery fan.  However the good guy always figures it out before I do.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger! Me too! I'm a huge mystery fan as well. And this Carnival mystery is right up there at the top!

When is your cruise?  Final payment on my 8/17 cruise was due 6/1..

Cruise is February 20, 2021 on the Mardi Gras.  Final payment was due November something but now I see it's changed to December 7, 2020.  Not knowing if this crazy pandemic is going to rear it's ugly head again in the fall, I hate to tie up that money even though we don't get hardly anything for interest in the bank.  With my luck and I paid it off, Carnival would cancel it and then say we quit giving FCC and OBC.

I think it's to control capacity.  A cruise on the Freedom early in September still shows up for booking, but not any other September cruises for the Freedom.  If all Sept cruises were going to be cancelled, why would one show up? If they were planning on cancelling all September cruises, then it seems like no September cruises for the Freedom would show up as available for booking.

It sure looks like they are controlling capacity.  My cruise is still showing up in my cruise manager for September 26th.

I concur.  There was a lot of rooms available on Vista in Sept and then, *poof* they were gone overnight.  It makes no sense they are still offering that Sept 6 sailing on Freedom if they know they are not sailing.

My final payment for 9/6 is currently due on July 8 so I am hoping to hear something soon.

I wouldn't necessarily put too much stock in the capacity control bucket myself.  I am sure there is some truth that certain sailings are almost guaranteed to have reduced numbers of traveler onboard; however, I'm pretty confident that there are some more cancellations coming as well.  A poster in another thread mentioned their sailing is no longer available for booking and they cancelled their flight purchased through Carnival, even though the flight itself is not cancelled.  That seems like a clear cut indicator that specific cruise will be cancelled.  The other indicator (to me at least) is that last week most ships were available, but now there are very few available.  If it were due to capacity control, I would expect a more gradual reduction in available bookings, not a wholesale stop.

Also just saw in the Norwegian board, the exact same thing is happening there as well.

That is so typical right now.  Keep everybody in the dark.  Do we make final payment?  Do we hold off booking?  Do we take FCC and OBC?  Do we make hotel and flight reservations?  I hate the unknown.

I think Carnival is in the dark as well. They are not saying anything definitive, because they just don't know.

Gosh, your guess is a good as mine! I would say that's to much of a coincidence to be plausible.  It's a mystery to me.

I also noticed the Vista is not showing bookings until October now. I wonder if the problems with the virus increasing in Houston and Galveston plays a role in this. Some of the smaller counties/towns in Texas are making everyone coming in from Galveston or Houston self-quarantine.  Although, all of this is voluntary and no one is checking on you so who knows how many are actually doing it.

Lynn Hidalgo out of Houston is talking about issuing another stay-at-home for Harris County.

As for those of you needing to know whether to make final payment, I would request an extension. I did that when my summer European cruise payment was due. They cancelled before the extension date arrived.

I agree that the person who said their Fly2Fun flight was cancelled is strange. To me, that's more of a clue than disappearing cruises on the website. So far, that person is the only one that I've seen on here who has reported that happening. Would be interesting to know if it was more widespread. As for those disappearing cruises, several people on here have said they've been watching their booked cruise disappear & reappear for quite some time now, so it doesn't seem to be something new. One possibility is that the limited capacity was met, so they pulled it from the site, but then had some cancellations, so it was reopen to fill it up again.

When they begin cruising again, they're only going to be sailing 8 ships to start. With only 8 ships available to be booked in the late summer & fall, and those ships sailing at partial capacity, it's not too far-fetched to think they'd fill up and be pulled from the site. Time will tell.

Yes, you have to discover who the murderer is (or maybe who originally brought in the covid) onto a ship that can no longer dock. And of course it would have to be a British Isles cruise.

I was thinking Hercule Poirot.  Didn't he solve a mystery on a cruise?  Maybe "Death on the Nile".  Wait, that sounds too scary😜

But I was hoping it would be Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Mrs. Peacock, Mr. Green, Professor Plum, and Miss Scarlet as the culprit. Oh, wait! Nevermind. Different story line. :classic_ohmy: Here, have another(hic) 🍹 :classic_biggrin:

I'm on that Sept. 6 sailing.  A guy in our roll call is B2B for the next one on the 13th and that one is gone, but the 9/6 is still there.  It's just anyone's guess what it means 😞 What's worse is I'm on a casino deal.  I still have the same deal showing up to be booked by July 1st..but what if those go poof for me after that?  I'll basically be giving up on the idea of cruising for now.  I currently have 3 people in a balcony for $900ish.  Not going to touch that price without a casino deal and not so sure I want to get that amount of money wrapped up in it..at regular prices.

FWIW:  My cancelled 5/3 cruise stayed in my cruise manager for nearly two weeks after it was cancelled.  Just commenting on those saying their cruise is still showing..I don't think that means much.

I know it's (only?) June, but Carnival still has a few more weeks before they finish repatriation of the crew. I find it hard to believe that after spending nearly 2 months trying to get crew members home that they will turn right back around and start bringing them back in August. I'm upset about my vacations being postponed indefinitely, but think of those poor crew members that are stuck without jobs and have just been trying to get home all of this time. Meanwhile we are just worried about our vacation plans.

That being said, Carnival probably has no idea what the plan is. Does anybody?

Cruising will restart with only a few ships. I imagine some of the crew are already on the ships and others are waiting patiently, anxious to go back to work. I don't think the last crew home will be the first crew to return.

We do know that there are only 8 ships that will be sailing, with reduced capacity, when/if the no sail ban is lifted.

I do know that it will take some time to restock the ship with supplies, stores, foods, etc. How long I don't know but would think it would have to be at home port. Getting the staffing up to the prescribed levels of even a 'reduced capacity' will take time. And I have no idea how long that will take., or the process involved.

Of the 8 ships that are "scheduled" to sail on or after Aug. 1 I only know of the 3 that are sailing from Galveston:

1. Freedom - 'drifting'  between Grenada and Barbados

2. Vista - in the area of Bahamas & Florida, Lil Stirrup Cay, along with the Carnival: Sunshine, Fantasy, Sunrise, Horizon, Legend, Sensation, Elation, Paradise.

3.  The Dream is in Jakarta, Indonesia as is Conquest, en route to Bali, both of them.

This is not all on the 8 ship announcement, I would think. But it's what I found out. I can do all of the 8 ships if you all want them. It just takes some time. And this post is only for where they are now.

Sorry for thread drift, but I thought some of you might be interested

Interesting information.  Wish I were out there drifting on the Freedom.

Given everything that has gone on in the last few weeks,  casino's opening, states opening,  Theme parks are opening, including universal and Disney slated to open next month, the protests, there is absolutely no reason not to open up the cruise lines.  Planes are still flying, hotels are open, food places are now open.  Add some cleaning,  remove the buffet or have the crew serve and limit capacity and let's roll.

Let's roll is right!! The number of people I see wearing masks continues to drop more and more every time I to go to the store. People are over it where I am. Don't ever remember this kind of chaos if someone were to contract norovirus/rotovirus on the ship. Y'all don't come after me on that, just sharing my two cents.
