We happened to luck out - now in Chicago area for a family get-together - central for folks from both coasts — enjoying crystal clear skies and temps in 70’s - while home (CT) is dripping through a three day monsoon.  Getting through LGA on Friday was a breeze, and we landed at OHare as the last few drops fell.

Oh, lots of wet and windy days- including a similar one to you in Lisbon.

The strangest one was in Turkey, one February, when we took a ship's excursion to Ephesus... I'd been before when it was too hot and crowded to be able to see much.

This time there was only the coach load of pax on the site, and we could really enjoy everything... until it snowed.

I remember that there was the inevitable visit to a carpet shop, and we managed to miss part of it and sit on a veranda where there was a blazing brazier, roasting chestnuts.

Very relieved to return to the warmth of the ship. 🙂

Our worst cruise weather was in December in the caribbean. Had several days that were cold/rainy. The only day it was a ‘problem’ was a day that we had a motor boat tour. It was painful riding in a boat in the rain. But we pushed through and overall it was a great trip. I’ve also had a lot of cloudy/rainy days on AIs in the caribbean. We usually travel November-January. We got married in jamaica and our resort offered free diving and a free introductory course. I was sooo excited about it and it was sooo windy. I literally walked up to the diving shack every single morning asking if they were holding it (they don’t let beginner divers out if it’s too choppy). And the last morning we got to do it!

but let’s face it. The worst weather in the caribbean is still better than Ohio in the winter.

I feel for those in the northeast, no beach weather there for sure.

We may have 90+ degrees here in SW Florida, but we also have red tide, blue green algae and brush fires.

The T Storm we had for 15 minutes this afternoon was actually a welcome relief!!

We've been very lucky with cruise weather except for just one rough night going from Vancouver into the Inside Passage.

dolittle, I remember lots of miserable wet and cold Memorial Days at the Jersey Shore (Seaside Park). I'm sure its even worse given how long you've waited to go what with the pandemic. Wishing you warmer and drier weekends ahead!

Worst weather on a cruise?  A couple come to mind:

I've been a a few Mediterranean cruises, but I tend to go in spring or late fall to avoid the crowds and heat of summer. This has mostly worked out but there have been a few times it hasn't.

Once we were supposed to dock in Rome but there was quite a storm at sea. Civitavecchia actually closed the port in the morning around the time we were supposed to dock, but our captain made an announcement that he had been told to "stand by" as there may be a window by mid-morning. They opened the port around 9am, and the next hassle was getting the pilot onboard the ship. Many of us were watching and I have NEVER witnessed such a a difficult transfer (and this was AFTER the captain had turned the ship around so that the pilot boat was out of the wind....)

Of course, that took about another 45 minutes, and then we started to approach the port -- only to find out it was again closed!  So after the pilot was offloaded again, the port call was canceled and we headed off on an itinerary change to Sardinia. I must say that given the significance of this port to many, there was really no grumbling from passengers about it. We could all clearly see that there was nothing to be done.

On a different Med cruise, there was a similar sort of storm that overtook us at Rhodes. Our (small) ship had planned to tender passengers off the ship to Lindos for the morning, then tender everyone back on board and sail around to Rhodes town for the afternoon. I was in a group that was on the second tender from ship to shore, and I was truly a bit frightened -- not by the waves, but by the way the tender was bucking and moving when they started transferring us to the dock at Lindos.  One passenger fell backward into the tender and cracked his head on the bench trying to get out (this was just after I had successfully exited).

They took him back to the ship and shortly thereafter, those of us who just got off the tender were relayed a message that the captain decided to stop tendering and was going to leave immediately to take the remainder of the passengers to Rhodes Town. Those of us in Lindos still got our morning there, then they arranged for a couple of coaches to come pick us up and take us over the Rhodes. This storm was more of a wind event than rain, so we still enjoyed a nice day. But that evening the ship overnighted in Rhodes port and it was a bit scary watching some very large waves crash against not just the ship but also completely submerge the wooden pier!

Iceland is my worst weather experience.  On the day we were touring and visiting the site where the continents divide, it was raining--hard--with wind.  The rain was hitting me horizontally.  I had one hand on my hat and the other trying to keep my camera protected from the rain.  I was miserable.  And, I know that I failed to appreciate what I was seeing!

I never worry about what can't be controlled. Just go with it and enjoy. We were at Universal one Summer when it rained with no thunder or lightning. Everyone went hunkering indoors. We just went out and did all the outside rides and the Bluto's Bilge Rat. We were soaking wet, but had the best time ever. I suppose if I was on the ship, I would be at an inside bar having a cocktail, listen to music, do trivia, or any of the million other things going on including the casino.

We have often talked about "Plan B" and even "Plan C" when cruising or just traveling.  In many ports around the world there are all kinds of options for a cruise day.  For example, if we are in Naples, Italy, on a gorgeous day we might take a fast boat over to Capri for the day.  It the seas are having a rough day we would probably change our mind and perhaps spend time in town, take the train to Pompeii, or go to some other area of interest in the region.  If it is a very rainy nasty day we would likely head to the excellent Archeological Museum and/or some of the other smaller museums and also enjoy a long lunch at a local restaurant.

But the key to what we do is having the ability to be very flexible with one's plans.  This works fine for us because we are very independent travelers who hardly ever book a cruise line excursion and also avoid most tours (there are times when we do book tours because they do things we cannot reasonably do on our own).  If the OP is the kind of cruiser who prefers to book excursions and tours (that do not allow last minute cancelation) then you must live with your decision.

As to going to the "shore" we all know that is the risk we take when we book hotel reservations (which usually cannot be canceled).  If stuck in Wildwood on an awful weather day we would probably drive up to Atlantic City (for the day) where the Casinos do offer some entertainment or perhaps drive to a smaller town like Smithville where we could browse the shops and enjoy a long lunch.

We have had a few weather days in port. Our worst was Juneau, a constant downpour all day. But it did not damper our enjoying the city. The second would be departing New Orleans, it was a mixture of rain, drizzle and overcast that first day.

Funny we are normally in NYC for memorial weekend but since broadway is not yet open we stayed home. Our last European cruise we left on 9/11 a few years ago and it was in 90’s everyday way to hot for walking around, Vatican had zero air  movement.

You don’t like bad weather, so you chose to live in Philadelphia.

Sure, that makes sense.

You win some, you lose some. Vacation weather is not always perfect, so make the best of it! I agree, when a sea day has bad weather, the vibe takes a complete 180. As with any trip really. It might not hurt to have a backup plan, especially if the forecast said so and/or it would affect your day.

This is another great thing about the mega ships. Lots of backup options available.

We had a family cruise several years ago during hurricane season and there was one heading right to our port  when we arrived. I didn't let our kids in on the issue, but my wife and I were worried. We flew out of Minneapolis direct and when we arrived in Florida we were two suitcases short. So I went to the office with my son and there was a woman going to Disney who also lost some luggage and she was yelling at the woman behind the counter. It was bad. I used it as a teaching moment.

We were able to actually skirt the storm and hit all of our stops, it was a fantastic cruise!

When we flew back to Minneapolis and were waiting at the luggage return, the screaming woman was there and telling someone about there stay at Disney World. Apparently the storm hit Orlando hard and they had standing water up to their shins and it was miserable time. We were very fortunate.

After reading your story I am just shaking my head.  The people who scream at others thinking that will solve their problems😲.......she makes me think of that saying, "you can't fix stupid".

We had a sea day on a cruise that rained the entire day. But you know what, it was actually really fun. They did a whole bunch of entertainment in the Atrium and contests. Gave out bottles of champagne as prices!

It's all sunny where I'm at . Not to hot at 5000 feet, I'm smoking chicken and a pork roast on my Smokey Joe off set smoker, and having a few beers and a cigar. Waiting for August 7th to cruise again on the Panorama. Yahoooo

Out of Long Beach? You're much more confident than I am sir. I personally think Cali will see cruises return in Oct or later.

Another "Ugly American", but at least she was spreading her venom within the borders of our own Country.

Both of my visits to the Vatican and the Museum were in April and I was quite warm.  I can't imagine what it would be like within the Museum during the height of Summer.
