[Horizon chaser 1957]

Good morning, all! All the days sound good, but I’m just off. We are having old friends to dinner tonight and tenderloin steaks, cherry topped chocolate cake, and wine are on the menu. The Adams quote made me laugh - he could have written it with me in mind! I haven’t been to Spain yet, but DH has. I’m enjoying the pictures.

It’s another beautiful day here. Hot enough to be summer like in the day without crisping anything, but cool enough at night to want a blanket. DH has gone shopping, and DD just left for work. I’m having a quiet cup of coffee and watching the hummingbirds at the feeder and the sun playing through the fir trees. Yesterday I was experimenting with printing variegated maple leaves. They would print better if they weren’t so dry, but I’m pleased with the result anyway. For the last few weeks it’s been too hot to work over steaming pots of anything!

My variegated test prints. They would be better with juicier leaves, but this works!

I did the volcano hike two days before the official tour began and the weather was iffy. The six of us and our guide agreed if it started to rain, we would turn back. 20 minutes into the hike it started to mist slightly. Then the small, loose rocks covering the path started to get slippery. Down I went. But I could get up and walk back to the van. Very slowly and carefully. (Debbie, thanks to you, I had hiking poles which helped a great deal).  I elevated the leg back at the van, but by the time I got back to the hotel, I knew I had at least strained my knee. 
 

The next day I headed to the local Hospital’s ER, hoping they would at least do an X-ray, since I was leaving Reykjavik the next morning. They were wonderful! In 3 hours I was examined, X-rayed, and casted - and provided crutches and a prescription for blood thinner, since I had two long flights coming up in a little more than a week. And three doctors had examined my X-ray - one an orthopedic specialist. And since the pants I wore would not fit over the cast, they gave me a pair of hospital shorts to wear! 😱 I had my big Turkish scarf with me that I used to create a skort-like look. Perhaps I created a new trend. 🙃

 

But they cleared me to do the rest of the trip, which is what I wanted more than anything. I go to see my primary care physician today, so we will see what she thinks about something that only cost $700. Hope she recognizes the quality. I will be submitting my claim to my travel insurer today.  But I will say the two people I spoke to while at the ER were wonderful, so hopefully that means their company is, too. 
 

 

First, welcome back Ann! Secondly, 😱! That’s terrible about your patella, although it’s good that it was taken care of so well by the doctors there. My fingers are crossed that it is only a partial break. That makes a huge difference to how well and quickly it heals as the sections won’t be drifting around. I once partially detached a small piece of mine in a fall. It was very painful. It doesn’t drift around, but I can still click it back and forth with my finger.

Good Monday morning, all, there's something new to report every day, isn't there?  @cat shepard, so sorry about your knee.  It will be a story to tell, though.  I am known at the hospital as the old lady who broke her wrist running away from the penguins in Antarctica and  her leg on the cobblestones in Sicily. A souvenir that you will never forget!

 

We have been to Malaga a few times, and the Alhambra, only once though when it was not a holy day, we have not been in the cathedral, we were hoping to do that on the next cruise, but it turns out to be a holy day, again, so it will probably not be open to tourists!  Same with the market, closed on holidays, we have only been in once, but it is an amazing market.  My pictures are much like  everyone else's, so I will only add a few!

I chose the 2018 vintage of this excellently rated Chardonnay from Sicily. I found several online distributors with prices starting at $34.98. You might find it for less locally.

How resourceful! It’s almost impossible to get an genuine souvenir of Antarctica, but you found a way. You could probably have just found a shop in Sicily, though. 😉

That was the laugh - it wasn't actually the penguins, but a fur seal on South Georgia Island.  We had climbed a hill to see the penguins nesting and some reindeer, but we climbed up in a stream bed that had etched away some of the hillside so there were clumps of grasses to hang on to.  Coming back down, there was a fur seal in the stream having a shower, so the guides told us just to clamber down the hillside to avoid the seal.  I slipped and landed on my wrist, which made a loud noise.

Good morning everyone and Happy Monday!  Thank you for the Daily Rich. Great days today. I’ve never had a raspberry cake but it sounds delightful. I haven’t had a Daiquiri in ages. Yesterday Craig made us Mojitos but I could only drink a bit of it, he made it too sweet. Next time I asked him to make mine with half the amount of simple syrup. 
 

 

New Friends Day ~ everyone here is a new friend and it seems like we add more daily. 😊

Ouch!  It's giving me chills.  I'm squeamish with stuff like that, the most I've ever broken was my little toe and did that little thing hurt.

We have been to Malaga three times. In 2016 and 2017, we were on the Prinsendam, and in 2019, the Veedam stopped there on her way to Boston.

 

On our first visit, we took the Ho-Ho with a stop at the Castle of Gibralfaro.

On our other two visits, we took the shuttle from the ship to town and walked around.  This is the view from the shuttle dropoff.

 

We visited Picasso museum and birth place.  Evidently we were'nt allowed to take pictures in the latter.  The outside of the museum and the central courtyard.

After our Ho-Ho tour in 2016, we walked around town.  We were there during Fashion Week, but did not see any of the shows.  Different sections of the seats were reserved for various designers, some of who's names I recognized.

 

In 2017 and 2019, there were festivals in town, along with band concerts and more informal performances.

Thank you! Funny story about this setting. It was post my open heart aortic valve replacement surgery. When we climbed the approx. 100 steps my wife asked how I was doing. I replied I’m a little short of breath! Being a nurse she checked my pulse. After climbing those steps my pulse was 68 due to one of the meds I was on. My lungs were screaming more air but the ole heart was plugging along at 68! They have since reduced the dosage of that med.
