Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Interesting days! I'll try to be an angel today 👼, love the tooth fairy, and hadn't heard of the canine Bean before.

Good quote. I like the meal, pass on the drink and I like the wine. The original drink I'd pass on - not a bourbon or gin fan. Also like Roy's meal.

I haven't been to today's destination. Thanks for the pictures.

I'm late today. First, I somehow slept almost 9 hours! I'm not sure how that happened. Then I wanted to get the lawn mowed and edged before it got too hot out.

I have 2 MRI's and a bone survey tomorrow. I have some tingling in my legs so they want to rule out spinal stenosis.

Hope all is well.

Still "Good morning!" here, but only just!  Today I complete 80 years here on earth, and start no. 81 tomorrow.  I have been invited out to lunch with my cousin and her hubby, who  celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Saturday (I was matron of honour at their wedding, so long ago, I can't believe it!).

Congratulations to Pauline and Graham on their 40th anniversary.  Just newlyweds, and they look so young...  😀

We visited Santarem on the Prinsendam in 2019.  We had a private tour which took us around the town, there is a market and pretty little church.

The church's claim to fame is that Christ on the cross is looking upward, instead of down, as is the way the crucifix is usually portrayed.

After the town, we went into the jungle to see how rubber was harvested, and then to a manioc "factory" as has already been posted.

Santarem, Brazil was a port call for the Veendam in March, 2017 on the South American Explorer.

We visited the riverfront area and took the shuttle from near the controversial Cargill soybean plant.

One of the interesting geography notes is the city is located at the confluence of the Tapajos and Amazon River.  The Tapajos flows quite clear compared to the very sediment laden Amazon.  As the Veendam departed and turned to go up the Amazon, we could see the difference and remarked at the water paterns plainly visable.  The water appeared to not mix. There were many of the river boats with the hammocks at Samtarem.  It is located mid-way between the mouth and Manaus.

I got a few photos of the confluence of the two rivers.

We had an interesting ride this afternoon, although longer than expected. We didn’t want to take the same route back, so we tried to take some back roads and wound up at one point having to backtrack as some county roads are gravel.  Between the GPS, memory and instinct, eventually, we made it back home.  We saw some pretty areas on our drive and even put the top down for a while.

@superoma  HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your DH.

@JazzyV  Hoping for a good outcome on your MRIs and bone scan.

@grapau27  Graham, you and Pauline looked like you had a wonderful day and a delightful dinner.

@mamaofami  Carol, good to know you did not have any damage from Henri.

We've had a lot of nice photos of Santarem but instead I will add some from nearby Alter do Chao from MS Prinsendam on March 13, 2019.  That day MS Veendam was at Santarem and it would be the final time the two would meet as HAL ships.  In his sailaway message Captain Jeroen confirmed that the encounter would be "more than perfunctory".  I decided to dine in the lido so I could be on deck as we passed.

Lots of people on the decks of both ships:

It is always a joy to see the photographs of the port of the day, especially the ports that I have never visited. @rafinmdYour sunrise and sunset photos are also something I look forward to seeing everyday as much as I look forward to reading your lists and seeing your choice for dinner each day.

Happy anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. @grapau27. and Happy Birthday to @VictOriann, I beat you to 80 by 19 days, but let's don't tell.

I gave up on my range as my oven gave a loud pop and both the burners on top and the oven itself got hot at the same time. Since the range was origional to the house (1997) I opted to replace rather than call a serviceman for repairs. New range is supposed to be installed on Aug. 30th. Please wish me luck with that as last year I had to replace my refrigerator and it took from March to Nov. to get the replacement.

Our Arizona monsoon arrived with a vengence and we had downpours with flooding every night for over a week. It has let up now and we are supposed to be dry and hot for at least the next week. Very necessary to clean up all the damages in almost every part of the state. Fortunately for me I only lost 1 cactus that uprooted itself. Landscaper is trying to save it by replanting much deeper.

We visited Santarem on our last cruise, November-December, 2019. We were cruising on another favorite cruise line. Our ship passed the Volendam, motionless, in the middle of the mighty Amazon. I was walking around our ship, (of course without my camera or phone so missed a good photo-op 🙁) and didn’t learn the details until later in the evening after the ship cruised on. An unexpected sandbar was the cause of the delay! We hope to travel to the Amazon again, as this last trip was  a celebration of DH retiring and just being on the water!

I guess the appliance curse is as long lived as COVID.  We've had several surges of appliance malfunctions here on the Daily.

Yes, monsoon has been crazy this year.  We haven't lost anything but our yard was a mess.  Our landscaper came last week and it took him 7 hours by himself, usually there are two of them but I think they've been very busy.  I hope your cactus survives.
