Guest Posted May 17, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2022 Do you think that Cruise lines will open up to the millions of us un-injected? And if so, when? Please keep this polite, not interested in your opinions of the Covid vaccination. Many thanks, 982 days without cruising, Carmen & Ian
alfaeric Posted May 17, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2022 Based on what the CEOs of multiple lines have said, no. For at least 2022 and probably deep into 2023.

Billy Baltic Posted May 17, 2022 #5 Share Posted May 17, 2022 I don’t see vaccination going away this year or next. My guess would be that they will retain vaccination and drop testing as it’s ineffective.

I hope they drop the testing soon, it's nerve wracking and getting harder to find a place that does the rapid test. 6
firefly333 Posted May 17, 2022 #8 Share Posted May 17, 2022 Cdc really is who they are listening to. Cdc is going to err on the side of being vaccinated. I cannot see this changing. There are still cases onboard ships. I think most people including the cdc who matters think your chances of being less sick are if you are vaccinated. It would take rolling a very big boulder up hill for this belief to change. Carnival early on had a age 77 lady die who sued them. They dont want very sick patients onboard. I just cant see it happening. I'm already 6 months past my booster and if anything they will move to having more recent booster shots. Carnival has had a couple longer or to hawaii requiring boosters. I agree it doesnt matter what anyone here believes about being vaccinated... it's what cdc believes. Why would ships take on additional risk.

sandy toes Posted May 17, 2022 #10 Share Posted May 17, 2022 Vaccines will be here for this year and might extend into the 2nd or even 3rd quarter of next year. It will all depend upon the case numbers. Worldwide we do not yet have this "thing" contained. Just look at what is happening in North Korea with their inability to make their "we got this" plan work for them. It is not political. It is just what it is, still uncontained. I have/had friends and family that have not gotten vaccinated for one reason or another. I do try to understand that you have to do what you are doing, and completely understand your desire to return to what you enjoy, cruising. But for the industry, it is all about not having a repeat shut down. 1
broadwaybaby123 Posted May 17, 2022 #11 Share Posted May 17, 2022 It's anyone's guess, but I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.
Jasukkie Posted May 17, 2022 #12 Share Posted May 17, 2022 If the CDC cared about cruising and Covid spread they would shut things down. That ship has sailed. It's now cruise at your own risk and know that you will very likely be exposed to covid on a full capacity unmasked sailing. I would guess testing will go soon. Vaccination will stick around for awhile because the cruise line would rather you not get very sick onboard and they don't have antiviral treatments onboard to give you. ZoeyVictoria Posted May 17, 2022 #13 Share Posted May 17, 2022 I don’t see any reason to make that change. Ships are sailing fuller and fuller every week with the current protocols, so what could possibly be accomplished?
cured Posted May 17, 2022 #14 Share Posted May 17, 2022 Not anytime soon. The countries they visit will have to drop their vaccine mandates first.
Levi is good Posted May 17, 2022 #15 Share Posted May 17, 2022 Glock obviously no one knows, but I'm seeing that RCI is insisting on the initial two-shot series to sail, but not boosters, and my ~guess~ is that will never go away. Just a hunch.
klfrodo Posted May 17, 2022 #16 Share Posted May 17, 2022 No reason to. Ships sailing with plenty of passengers.
Cruising89143 Posted May 17, 2022 #17 Share Posted May 17, 2022 I would guess that testing will go by the wayside. Vaccines will not. 1
tallnthensome Posted May 17, 2022 #18 Share Posted May 17, 2022 They don't want passengers who are unvaccinated who are much more likely to become more seriously ill with Covid than their vaccinated counterparts on board. They can deal with the sniffles and cough. They don't want medivacs and ambulances and rerouted ships due to sick unvaccinated guests. That gives them bigger problems and not worth it ..... 11 1
soremekun Posted May 18, 2022 #19 Share Posted May 18, 2022 Aren't there already provisions in place for the unvaxxed to cruise?

I know 2 acquaintances that applied for an exemption; both denied. Obviously I don’t know what the success rate is fleet wide, but I would guess it’s small.
chuckroast1 Posted May 18, 2022 #21 Share Posted May 18, 2022 It's going to be the last thing to go and not any time soon. As others have noted, they are selling all the tickets they want to sell at the moment and for pretty high prices at that. If US (or world) economic conditions go sideways in the next year and occupancy starts to suffer, maybe then.

Yes, personally know about dozen got them 5-6 Months. Another two I Cruised with last Month. Then also few others here on CC that also got exemptions... That said I'd say late 2023 possibly into 2024 Vax Requirements will change but will start with Minors first and more exceptions... timf2001 Posted May 18, 2022 #25 Share Posted May 18, 2022 The biggest issue with the vaccine requirement is for those of us stuck with cruise credits from 2020. They won't offer any refunds, only name changes. After rebooking 3 times I've ultimately settled on a December 2022 date that I'll be going on solo if they don't let my unvaccinated partner sail by then. I don't really want to sail solo and don't have anyone else to take. I'd rather keep my credit until they lift the restrictions or just get a refund, but they seem set on the end of 2022 credit expiration date with no plans on changing the rules. I just want things back to normal like they are in my everyday life, with people free to manage risks on their own terms.
