Good morning all!

Another frosty sunny morning in the PNW.  Tomorrow will be our last sunny day for awhile, rain is coming!  Better than snow, no complaints 🙂

Before email I wrote lots of letters.  That was also before my hands got so arthritic that it's painful to write.  So now it's email, FB and Christmas letters.  I love French Toast, will pass on the drink and red wine.  I'd like to try the meal, but not sure about the spices.

Gerry @ger_77 We have Tricare because of DH's military service.  Between that and Medicare, I don't remember the last time we got a bill for medical services.  If we do get a bill, it's always because the clinic made a mistake in billing codes 😉  I know we're very fortunate.

Roy @rafinmd I'm very relieved that the tests showed no heart failure.  Prayers for a swift recovery and thank you Jacqui @kazu for posting Roy's updates.

Debbie @dfish I can't believe you still haven't gotten the results of your CT scan!  That's nuts!  Remember when DH had pneumonia recently he got a call from his doctor before he got back home?  I'm sure you've called and asked, what do they say?

We have been to Naples many times, but never spent any time in the city. Instead we went to Pompeii twice, Herculaneum once, spent a few days on the Amalfi Coast, and climbed the last mile up to the top of Vesuvius.  Once we went to a buffalo cheese farm. 😂  We'll be in Naples again next year and plan to go back to Pompeii for a 3rd time.  New discoveries are being made all the time.

Here are some photos from some of our visits to Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I haven't written a personal letter in a while. I love French Toast! I'll salute Mauritania independence. No to the quote. Yes to the meal, drink (minus shredded coconut) and wine. I've been to Italy, but not Napoli. 3 good days in history.

It's cold, windy and a bit snowy here (not much). I'd like to stay inside, but have PT in about an hour. I got a little more sleep last night, perhaps by taking my Gabapentin plus muscle relaxant plus some ibuprofen. I had tried to nap in the recliner yesterday, but it was too painful.

@seagarsmoker I'm glad you were able to get your cruise changed.

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for the photos. Great one of you and Dennis. Sorry to hear that Scott has Covid, hopefully a mild case. And I hope Susan is negative or if not, also has a mild case. Congrats to your DS and DBIL on their 54th Wedding Anniversary! I haven't seen those Medicare ads here (thankfully).

@aliaschief Good news on no need for knee surgery.

@Seasick Sailor Lovely photo of you and Allen.

@kazu Thanks for sharing Roy's updates.

@Heartgrove I hope you and Sue are both feeling ok.

@rafinmd Roy, I'm glad you got some rest; sadly hospitals are terrible places to get sleep. And I hope the doctor has a plan for treatment. Good to hear it's not heart failure. Where was the fluid? In the lungs or between the lungs and chest wall?

@marshhawk I was happy to hear you got an appointment with the pulmonary PA.

@dfish Thanks for the recipes. Yes to doing the hula. And if Sue's cough has gone on that long, I think she should get looked at. Unbelievable on no CT scan results yet.

@RMLincoln Sorry to hear that DH's eye surgery got postponed, although at least a week isn't too bad. The concert sounds nice.

@smitty34877 Good news indeed on the hip replacement check-up. Your soup sounds wonderful.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Great Naples photos. Sorry to hear about the water situation, but at least it's not the washer itself.

@bennybear Thanks for the photos.

@Vict0riann Great photos from Naples.

@Cruising-along Thanks for the photos, especially  those evening ones.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

I keep forgetting to post a picture of our Christmas tree.  Same tree and same decorations as two years ago, but the ornaments are in different places.

DSC00039.thumb.JPG.5745a18a0ced9c71de242bdf6e0361ba.JPG

A few years ago, I found a baby saguaro growing under our ironwood tree.  They are supposed to be slow growing, but this one doesn't seem to know that.  The first picture was taken in 2016 or 2017, and the second one was taken in April 2022, when it was 21 inches tall.  The last one was taken a couple of days ago, and it's now 31 inches tall.  Soon, I'll need to cut back the center branches on the ironwood tree so the saguaro has a place to grow.  That's easier than trying to transplant it. It's doing very well and survived the dry, hot summer this year when so many saguaros were dying.

 One person celebrating a happy event is my dear twin sister. Today is my twin's 54th wedding anniversary so sending them my good wishes.  I was married in September of 1969 and she was not engaged that day due to having a little tiff with her boyfriend.  A few days later, they made up and became engaged!  Twelve short weeks later they married, and I loaned my twin my wedding gown to wear.  Same people attended both weddings and no one said a word about the same dress showing up!  LOL!

A very happy anniversary to your twin and your BIL.

That’s quite the story on the dress - same dress on the twins.  seems very appropriate 🙂

Thanks for all the lovely photos of Naples today!  I would love to visit sometime.    I love French Toast and I use cinnamon and vanilla too.  I use 1/2 & 1/2 instead of milk because it keeps a lot longer than milk and the smallest size milk I can find is 1/2 gallon.   I hate having to dump milk down the drain.   I don't do any letter writing anymore.   I sent Christmas letters last year but this year I will hand write messages in my cards.  I pare down every year so it makes it easier to write a message.

Thanks @kazu for the update on Roy.  Prayers sent to you Roy that they can figure out what is going on and fix it and send you on your way home to MD soon.

The roads were bad heading to Costco but we took the highway back and it was dry.

I wanted to express appreciation for the Cruise Critic Daily and the things I learn from it on a regular basis.  A shout out to @StLouisCruisers when you shared photos of the port Raiatea and mentioned you couldn't get to the pearl farm as HA had booked all the available spots.    This is way in the future in February 2025 but I kept looking for when HA would post the shore excursions for our cruise.   They were posted when I looked yesterday so the first thing I did was book the Pearl Farm tour.  I have been reading of people finding shore excursions sold out because of HIA but we are set.   These anecdotes and photos help us learn so much and get us dreaming of visiting new ports.   Thanks for all you do each day @richwmn to start our days off so well.  Nancy

Good morning to all from a rainy Nawiliwili Kuaui. Was supposed to go on a plane ride (6 persons) to see the island so I took a Lyft up to the airport and unfortunately the weather was too bad and they canceled it. So back into a Lyft back to the ship. I may try to venture out again with a rain jacket.  Disappointed but , hey, what can you do!  We are still here for 7 hours!!

Thanks for the update on Roy.

Thoughts for everyone on the care list and cheers for those celebrating.

It’s taken me a bit to post this. My first draft was somehow erased and I couldn’t retrieve it so I’m doing it differently this time. Cut and paste is your best friend sometimes. 😉

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were in Naples June 6, 2022 on the Oosterdam,  I went on a foodie walking tour which was excellent and one the best excursions I’ve been on, one of my “Top 5” Best Ever.  We started out from the ship to an outdoor café for espresso and sfogliatella, aka lobster tail, both absolutely delightful.
849BF7AE-ABD0-4093-BD1D-0CD86ABB6819.thumb.jpeg.9028ac53451e5343ad121811dc4ad8eb.jpeg
Next up was Castel Nuovo where a wedding was about to take place, and it seemed like a high society wedding with all the hoopla.  We watched cars arriving, being stopped by security before they could pass, lots of guests arriving, and the most beautiful flower arrangements being delivered.  For some reason I didn’t get any pictures of all that.  Our wonderful guide asked us to name the one Italian food/dish that we liked the most while in Italy and I said the Arancini from Verona during our 2005 land trip.  Others said things like lasagna and other pasta dishes.
Next up was a walk through Galleria Umberto, absolutely beautiful!  Who knew that people really live in those upstairs villas.
Then a stop for another treat at another restaurant.  Unfortunately, I didn’t label this so don’t remember what it was.
We took a long fast paced walk through the winding streets and alleys of the old town area.  Absolutely delightful.  Lots of markets and restaurants and people just living their lives, just what I like to see on an excursion.
Next up was our stop for pizza.  I was tuckered out by then so I was thankful for the sit down and glass of wine.  Our guide was excellent and since we were such a small group we all got to know each other.  First course was mozzarella and tomatoes, very refreshing.  Then the pizza!
Afterward we could venture out where we wanted to go, most went shopping, but I wanted to head back to the ship.  Our guide offered to walk me back which I was grateful for because of the crazy traffic.  What a wonderful day in Naples!
Your saguaro is beautiful!  I wish we had one, maybe I’ll try!  The Saguaro park here have seedlings to purchase. I’ve never done it because of how long it takes to see results. But yours is fantastic!
A quick check-in to say thanks everyone for explaining what Medicare et al are all about.  I agree with everyone about the ridiculous ads . . .
Interesting story - our friend's daughter and her BFF moved to Ottawa where both girls were music teachers in the elementary school system.  On the first day the parents come through the various classrooms to introduce themselves along with their children, and the first 2 through the door were the parents with their sweet little girl - the dad was a big, handsome looking guy and right behind him was his wife - Alanis Morisette.  She tried not to be star-struck, but was quite taken aback when she realized she would be teaching music to one of the great musical talents of our country.  LOL  No pressure, right?
I'm happy to hear that Roy isn't suffering from heart failure - hopefully his short hospital stay will yield results that will get him on the road to recovery soon.
DH went to the dentist this morning and is at the denturist this afternoon getting an impression made for a new partial plate.  Thankfully our insurance pays for 60% of the cost, especially just before Christmas!
Take care everyone, see you tomorrow!
I have returned,  The nurse took me back and asked if I was ready for the breathing test.  Nope.  I told him the reason I was there, sick on a ship?  No!  He said.  And then we talked cruising.  He weighed me, only down 8 pounds now.  I am OK with that.  I need to stop eating gelato. (nope)  The other nurse came in, took my oxygen level, and immediately put me on oxygen.  Took my blood pressure, very high.  And then she left, came back checked my oxygen level again, reset the level of oxygen, and then Bryce (oh my he is cute) came in to talk to me.  He read the notes from the ship doctor, asked me how I was feeling, still awful, but better.  And laid out a plan for me.
Oxygen 24/7.  A machine at bedtime. and an oxygen carry pack for the day time.  A 30 day supply of a steroid, and another 30 days of a low dose antibiotic.  He said the steroids would raise my blood pressure and my blood sugars, so I did cancel and reschedule the appointments with the primary for a physical and my endocrinologist for my blood sugars  until I am done with the drugs.  He also gave me enough trelogy to get me through to the next appointment when I will have the breathing tests.
So that is the plan.  I also called out from my first shift, as I was already two hours late for a 4 hour shift.  I will work tomorrow night in CA, and do an afternoon shift in NYC.  When I was calling for NYC last night, all of my calls were to Florida and Connecticut.  I wonder who I will call tonight..
@rafinmdSounds like you are feeling better and hope the doctors can get to the source of the problems. And @marshhawkGlad you are getting the oxygen issue resolved.
Little new here except I finally have a microwave again!!!!! What a hassle. Not my first choice, but it works and looks ok. Now to start putting together a list for my handyman to tackle while I am gone in January. He loves to get winter work that is inside.
I'm back from a trip to CVSinTarget, actual Target, and Petsmart.
The Target store has about 15 closed checkout lanes, and four self-checkout stands. The only service checkstand is the Guest Services counter. It is enough to keep me from shopping there. The Atlantic must have read my mind, because when I got home, this was the first thing I saw:
Self-Checkout Is a Failed Experiment
Please, not another “unexpected item in the bagging area.”
Good afternoon.  The guy and his wife came and cut the mesquite tree back really far.  There is more for them to cut tomorrow.  It is really naked, since they had to cut the low branches off to get to the main branches, and since I wanted it cut much lower to the ground, there will only be a few small beginnings of new branches.  The main branch of the tree had gotten too tall, and I was afraid it would break off in a high wind.  Part of it broke off about ten years ago.  Tomorrow and Thursday, he will finish the mesquite and trim the ironwood tree.  With the ironwood, we mainly need to get the branches off the roof, from over the new HVAC unit, the gazebo and what is hanging over the fence.  He is also going to open up the center of the ironwood so the saguaro has a place to grow.  Hopefully, I will be able to keep up with the trees for a few years.
I think after the man from the water company sat watching the water gush from the broken main for five hours, he initiated a work order and they may be repairing it now.  Our trickle of water is no more since the system is shut down.
I realized this after I posted and deleted my post. Oops!  I had too many windows open in Safari on my phone and was looking at yesterday’s Daily.
Your mesquite tree really filled out. They do grow fast. We had to remove the mesquite in our front yard after we had lived here for about 10 years. It was about 15 years old and too huge for the space and was starting to mess up the sidewalk. We replaced it with a fruitless olive.
It's not filled out now.  It's basically the bare branches, but it will grow again.
Sandi, I think the annoying voices are to get your attention.
Carolyn, great pictures of Naples.  We've been to Pompeii and Herculaneum and enjoyed seeing them.
Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.
I haven't written a personal letter in a while. I love French Toast! I'll salute Mauritania independence. No to the quote. Yes to the meal, drink (minus shredded coconut) and wine. I've been to Italy, but not Napoli. 3 good days in history.
It's cold, windy and a bit snowy here (not much). I'd like to stay inside, but have PT in about an hour. I got a little more sleep last night, perhaps by taking my Gabapentin plus muscle relaxant plus some ibuprofen. I had tried to nap in the recliner yesterday, but it was too painful.
@seagarsmoker I'm glad you were able to get your cruise changed.
@StLouisCruisers Thanks for the photos. Great one of you and Dennis. Sorry to hear that Scott has Covid, hopefully a mild case. And I hope Susan is negative or if not, also has a mild case. Congrats to your DS and DBIL on their 54th Wedding Anniversary! I haven't seen those Medicare ads here (thankfully).
@aliaschief Good news on no need for knee surgery.
@Seasick Sailor Lovely photo of you and Allen.
@kazu Thanks for sharing Roy's updates.
@Heartgrove I hope you and Sue are both feeling ok.
@rafinmd Roy, I'm glad you got some rest; sadly hospitals are terrible places to get sleep. And I hope the doctor has a plan for treatment. Good to hear it's not heart failure. Where was the fluid? In the lungs or between the lungs and chest wall?
@marshhawk I was happy to hear you got an appointment with the pulmonary PA.
@dfish Thanks for the recipes. Yes to doing the hula. And if Sue's cough has gone on that long, I think she should get looked at. Unbelievable on no CT scan results yet.
@RMLincoln Sorry to hear that DH's eye surgery got postponed, although at least a week isn't too bad. The concert sounds nice.
@smitty34877 Good news indeed on the hip replacement check-up. Your soup sounds wonderful.
@Quartzsite Cruiser Great Naples photos. Sorry to hear about the water situation, but at least it's not the washer itself.
@bennybear Thanks for the photos.
@Vict0riann Great photos from Naples.
@Cruising-along Thanks for the photos, especially  those evening ones.
Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.
Vanessa, I'm glad you got a little more sleep last night.  I hope the trend continues no matter what it takes.
Good morning to all from a rainy Nawiliwili Kuaui. Was supposed to go on a plane ride (6 persons) to see the island so I took a Lyft up to the airport and unfortunately the weather was too bad and they canceled it. So back into a Lyft back to the ship. I may try to venture out again with a rain jacket.  Disappointed but , hey, what can you do!  We are still here for 7 hours!!
Thanks for the update on Roy.
Thoughts for everyone on the care list and cheers for those celebrating.
have a great day everyone!!IMG_1645.thumb.jpeg.7b59ca2d06ebb9308b784b19a4fbf63c.jpeg
Pennie, I'm sorry your tour was rained out.
Your saguaro is beautiful!  I wish we had one, maybe I’ll try!  The Saguaro park here have seedlings to purchase. I’ve never done it because of how long it takes to see results. But yours is fantastic!
Sharon, I didn't plant the saguaro.  I think it got there from recycled seeds deposited by a bird or a coyote.  I'm just glad we have one in the yard.
A quick check-in to say thanks everyone for explaining what Medicare et al are all about.  I agree with everyone about the ridiculous ads . . .
Interesting story - our friend's daughter and her BFF moved to Ottawa where both girls were music teachers in the elementary school system.  On the first day the parents come through the various classrooms to introduce themselves along with their children, and the first 2 through the door were the parents with their sweet little girl - the dad was a big, handsome looking guy and right behind him was his wife - Alanis Morisette.  She tried not to be star-struck, but was quite taken aback when she realized she would be teaching music to one of the great musical talents of our country.  LOL  No pressure, right?
I'm happy to hear that Roy isn't suffering from heart failure - hopefully his short hospital stay will yield results that will get him on the road to recovery soon.
DH went to the dentist this morning and is at the denturist this afternoon getting an impression made for a new partial plate.  Thankfully our insurance pays for 60% of the cost, especially just before Christmas!
Take care everyone, see you tomorrow!
Gerry, I'm glad your DH could be things moving on getting a new partial plate.
I have returned,  The nurse took me back and asked if I was ready for the breathing test.  Nope.  I told him the reason I was there, sick on a ship?  No!  He said.  And then we talked cruising.  He weighed me, only down 8 pounds now.  I am OK with that.  I need to stop eating gelato. (nope)  The other nurse came in, took my oxygen level, and immediately put me on oxygen.  Took my blood pressure, very high.  And then she left, came back checked my oxygen level again, reset the level of oxygen, and then Bryce (oh my he is cute) came in to talk to me.  He read the notes from the ship doctor, asked me how I was feeling, still awful, but better.  And laid out a plan for me.
Oxygen 24/7.  A machine at bedtime. and an oxygen carry pack for the day time.  A 30 day supply of a steroid, and another 30 days of a low dose antibiotic.  He said the steroids would raise my blood pressure and my blood sugars, so I did cancel and reschedule the appointments with the primary for a physical and my endocrinologist for my blood sugars  until I am done with the drugs.  He also gave me enough trelogy to get me through to the next appointment when I will have the breathing tests.
So that is the plan.  I also called out from my first shift, as I was already two hours late for a 4 hour shift.  I will work tomorrow night in CA, and do an afternoon shift in NYC.  When I was calling for NYC last night, all of my calls were to Florida and Connecticut.  I wonder who I will call tonight..
Annie, I'm glad you finally have a plan to help your breathing and to feel better.  I hope they get the oxygen to you soon.  With  the oxygen and the medicines, I hope you feel better soon.
Lenda
Roy’s Tuesday evening update:
(I think there is a typo but don’t want change his text)
It is likely I will be discharged tomorrow, probably late in September day.  The main activity for the day was a test walk which I thought was a bit on the short side but is apparently the standard duration and the staff was satisfied.  I have apparently been dehydrated while trying to shed water and they are changing my medication to better get rid of excess water without the dehydration.  The new medicine is also a pill rather than an IV.  I’m feeling pretty hopeful.
This is good news, thank you for posting it.  It has to be hard to be hospitalized so far from home.
I was pretty busy today writing out my Christmas cards and am finishing up my letter to those I send one to.  Also wrote some notes in a few cards.  But I've caught up with the Daily and a few things caught my eye to comment on.  Thanks for all the Naples photos today everyone.
Thanks for all the lovely photos of Naples today!  I would love to visit sometime.    I love French Toast and I use cinnamon and vanilla too.  I use 1/2 & 1/2 instead of milk because it keeps a lot longer than milk and the smallest size milk I can find is 1/2 gallon.   I hate having to dump milk down the drain.   I don't do any letter writing anymore.   I sent Christmas letters last year but this year I will hand write messages in my cards.  I pare down every year so it makes it easier to write a message.
Thanks @kazu for the update on Roy.  Prayers sent to you Roy that they can figure out what is going on and fix it and send you on your way home to MD soon.
The roads were bad heading to Costco but we took the highway back and it was dry.
I wanted to express appreciation for the Cruise Critic Daily and the things I learn from it on a regular basis.  A shout out to @StLouisCruisers when you shared photos of the port Raiatea and mentioned you couldn't get to the pearl farm as HA had booked all the available spots.    This is way in the future in February 2025 but I kept looking for when HA would post the shore excursions for our cruise.   They were posted when I looked yesterday so the first thing I did was book the Pearl Farm tour.  I have been reading of people finding shore excursions sold out because of HIA but we are set.   These anecdotes and photos help us learn so much and get us dreaming of visiting new ports.   Thanks for all you do each day @richwmn to start our days off so well.  Nancy
Nancy, I really appreciate your comments and shout out today.  I'm glad seeing photos and telling our stories of our travels helps others and entertains everyone.  But something was nagging me about Raiatea.  I looked to be sure and the pearl farm island is Rarotonga.  So please check to be sure your pearl farm tour is for that stop on your cruise.  I figured with all your planning you just misspoke.  I often get all those R islands mixed up in my head!  Good luck!
Good news that you got checked out today and they ordered you the oxygen.  I hope the steroids and oxygen do the trick and things turn around for you.  Good luck with sales.  That $1200 one yesterday is fantastic.
Thanks for posting this for Roy Jacqui.  It's good news all around!  It will be great if Roy is discharged tomorrow.  Finally he can get some good rest.  Keep up the good work with the walking Roy @rafinmd!!
