Good morning from central Texas.  It is 75F with 96% humidity and a dew point of 74F.  There is a 8mph wind according to the weather app, but according to my neighbor's flag there is a slight breeze.  It is really not that bad outside right now.  Our predicted high is 91F.  I'm up early since the brisket needed to go into the smoker about 6 am, and I got it in about 6:10, so not too bad.  Brisket needs to be smoked long and slowly in order to tenderize the meat.  Fingers crossed 🤞 this turns out to be a good brisket.  This time I'm using pecan wood chips, and there was a lot of smoke just a little while ago.  The only other thing on the agenda is a quick trip to the store to get ingredients for the Mexican corn and black bean salad that I didn't realize I needed when I was there Thursday.  Then I'll make that salad, the potato salad, and the barbecue sauce.

 

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads.  My father died 31 years ago just three weeks before his 80th birthday.  This is my favorite picture of him.  It was taken in 1974 or 1975 when he visited us in Newark, DE.  We had gone to Annapolis on a day trip and enjoyed a picnic lunch at the small boat harbor.  Sorry about the quality of the picture, but it's a scanned version of an old print.

 

I will celebrate the first two days, but someone can celebrate Chenin Blanc day with my share of the wine.  I think the day of family remittances can also include the hard working crews on BHBs who send money home to their families.

 

I'm not sure I agree with today's quote.

 

We'll pass on the meal and the wine.  The drink sounds like a good one to enjoy on a BHB.

 

We were in Mumbai but only saw the part of the town from the domestic air port to the ship since we had flown in from an overland tour to Agra.  That was enough of Mumbai and India for me.

 

A good day in history for the Soviet space program.

 

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I'm also worried about your cough.  Please don't let it go on much longer before getting it checked out.  I'm glad you are not going out and about too much as spreading whatever you have around.

@MISTER 67  Arnold Palmer was also one of my favorite golfers when we used to watch the tournaments.  He was a real gentleman.

As I said earlier today, we have seen India.  Cochin was not too bad, but in Agra and Mumbai, we have never seen such filth.  The Taj Mahal was always on my bucket list, but not India.  Now it's Been There, Done That!.

Father David’s sermon was very inspiring this morning.

 

I am still feeling quite ill.  I will continue to stay home and isolate until I test negative.  Jim and I are now sleeping in separate bedrooms as a precaution.  Thankfully the house is large enough that we have room to avoid each other.

 

I will take another Covid Test tomorrow and see where we are at that point. 

Since I has symptoms since Monday, it is too late for me to get Paxlovid.  I will call the pharmacist today and see if there is anything else I can take.

Good morning, everyone!

 

It is a nice sunny day out, but supposed to get rather toasty with a high of 87F.  I shut the windows when I got up as the house is at 67F now.  We'll see if it heats up enough for the AC today.  I suspect we could get through today without it and turn it on tomorrow.  

 

@Cruzin Terri  I am so sorry to read that  you have Covid on top of everything else that went wrong.  I hope you shake this soon.  

@aliaschief I think you were reading my mind with the gazpacho.  I planned to make that for this week to eat from.  I love gazpacho and it is so refreshing on a hot day.

Today's meal sounds good, but one serving is really high in carbs - two meals worth, so I will pass.  I'm not sure what we're having.  I'll put something on the grill so we don't heat up the house.  Chickpea Pasta with Eggplant

Happy Sunday Morning Dailyites!  Happy Fathers day to all the Dads and Cat Dads, and Dog Dads. DH loves to go out and sit with the new batch of fur babies. I know our heart strings will be pulled as they move away and go to new homes. He too is feeling that it would be hard to let our Turnip leave.  Too cute. That kitten is way too cute.!

 

Last nights birthday dinner was interesting to say the least.  DH was surprised that Debbie and Donna were there,  but once he got into his food, he ate and shut down any socializing with his table mates.  The other problem was that the restaurant was the most crowded I had ever seen it, and the noise level made it impossible to hear each other.  Which is pretty bad because 4 out of 6 (and I am one of the 4) have hearing problems. 

 

I like the quote, it made me think that what you put into life, you get back in life.  If you are a negative thinker, then life is a negative thing.  If you are a joyful person, then you find joy in life. Sometimes we have to re arrange our thinking, and while my mid childhood years were full of terror, once apart from those who caused it, i found joy in living.  I sometimes in my head revisit the bad parts, and  while I cant forget and sometimes admit I cant forgive, I now understand what created the mess, and then find something to be joyful for.

 

I did become close to my father after my mom passed away.  We "hung out" together and "girl watched".  He really did want another chance at romance at the end of his life, but sadly that never happened.  But I do have fond memories of him and the adventures he took us on.  Sometimes we just cant see the forest for the trees.

 

One of my fondest memories of adventures with Dad, was when we lived in France, he would take my brother and I on road trips in the countryside. If he heard motors from motorcycles in the fields, he would park the car, and we would walk to find the motocross racing.  This is what gave me the love of racing.

 

@Cruzin TerriI am sorry that your cold turned out to be Covid.  Coast to coast, I am talking with more people who have it.  Again.  @StLouisCruisers not sure if you were vaccinated against RSV, but you might want to ask the medical department if they have a test.  DH and I still mask up when we go shopping, doctors offices, or any place with a crowd.  And I guess this is the new way of life.  I hope the two of you start feeling better soon.

It’s from a Cook’s Illustrated cookbook and as you can see been used quite a bit and adapted for smaller servings at times.

I did see a bit on the Cunard forum on yesterday’s delayed arrival, largely do an unplanned engine shutdown and needing to “reset” the engines.  Most crossings now are 7 days now so it’s especially unfortunate that it happened on a rare 6-day crossing.

Good Morning from a warm and cloudy day at the beach

      Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads and Dad stand ins.  My own dear dad passe away to young 35 years ago. I still miss him. He was a very simple man but had great wisdom He taught me a lot. My Dad had 3 loves in his life, His Family, This Country and the New York Yankees. As we lived in Boston, it was a little "strained" sometime. LOL.

     Quote is too strange foe me . Never been to todays port.

     Played golf yesterday. Had a great cloud cover so not bad.

     I ordered some things from LL Bean for our upcoming VOV. I just dont have many cool weather clothes and they are just not available here. Only time you can even get a sweater is around Christmas time. Should have thought of this then but...

       Made a cheesecake for my DH ( his request) and am making chicken cacciatore (also his request) for dinner.

Yep, I read that, HAL is having issues with customer service among other things.

That happened to us on a Sitmar cruise back in 1984, we received a nice upgrade  when we checked in, I figured it out right away and went to the original cabin and told the steward we were upgraded, our bags had arrived and he gave them to us right away.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Happy Father's Day to all fathers, those with people babies and those with fur babies.  And to everyone who acts in the capacity of a father, thank you.  I lost my sweet Dad in 1999 at the age of 92, which even now, I think was too soon.   Bless the African children and those who send money back to their families in other countries.  Others an enjoy the Chenin Blanc on my behalf today.

 

We had some great lightning and thunder last night - there was one clap of thunder that was incredibly close, setting off a number of car alarms in the neighbourhood.  Lots of rain overnight and continuing today.  Traditionally on Father's Day we drive out to a small country cemetery about 1.5 hrs from here and with others, mow, string trim, and tidy up all the graves.  We made several phone calls last night, as the roads getting to the cemetery will be virtually impassible, so we'll have to figure out another Sunday when some of us can get together to clean it up.  DH's grandparents are there, and his uncle contributed money for a fence and beautiful gates at the entrance, so we have a vested interest in the place.

 

I've never had an Arnold Palmer (although DH has frequently had the non-alcoholic version on BHB's), but think it would make a nice summertime drink.  Will pass on the wine, and ditto on the meal suggestion, as neither of us is a fan of either eggplant or chickpeas.

 

This morning DH's son is taking us out for breakfast, and later we'll be doing a zoom call with the family from Calgary.  The restaurants are all going to be busy today, so we'll be staying home and I'll put some burgers in the George Foreman and will make a run to New York Fries for DH's favourite french fries for us to enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

 

Prayers for everyone who is in pain, in grief, in turmoil, and in wars.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Favorite picture of my dad (this is a picture of a drawing that was done from a picture) - we were in our backyard, so assume mom took the picture. I'm the youngest in the photo. Brother the Older is present, but Brother the Younger, although already born, is absent - we lost him a few years ago, so we are once again these 3. Strangely, I find peace in that.

 

Happy Father's Day - I miss both my dad and brother.💔

 

My brother left behind 12 children (5 natural, 7 bonus) so I know there is much love & many thoughts going up to him today.🤗

Thanks for the daily and fleet report.  Two good days to remember (someone can take my Chenin Blanc). Looked up the days:

I agree with the quote; it took me years to realize that and to leave behind all toxic relationships and to not bemoan them. The meal looks interesting but I was more interested in the tomato gazpacho!  (thanks @aliaschief for the recipe!!)  I never knew what an Arnold Palmer was until I ordered an iced tea with lemonade on a BHB and waiter said "Oh, an Arnold Palmer!!"  I might just have to try an alcoholic one. Any rosé would be wonderful.  I have been to India (New Delhi, Agra and the Taj Mahal) and I think I am done.  Cool about the space trip!!

 

 

Laundry is almost done; I am doing a lot of items that I might wash every couple of months (pillows, etc).  As I have a NP coming over on Tuesday for a "yearly" visit (which I think it is a waste of time as I have no medical problems), I want the house to be sparkling clean.  The thing I love about living solo is I can clean when and if I want.  Dusting here is pointless; it returns within a short time! And with no carpet anywhere, things are easy to clean.

 

 

I rarely answer my mobile unless I know who is calling.  Lately, I have been getting calls in the late evening (1930 or so) and when I research the number (or call it back - I block my mobile #) it is political stuff.  I guess it will just increase!!  Yuck!!  Maybe I will just turn off my mobile!!  LOL!!

 

 

@Cruzin Terri I am so sorry you tested positive for Covid.  There is not much - other then Paxlovid - to treat it; you just have to treat the symptoms - headache/body ache, temperature, cough.  Paxlovid didn't help me but I had to get an inhaler as I just couldn't breathe, my oxygen sat was 90%.  It took me a good 14 days to start feeling better.

@StLouisCruisers I hope you start feeling better and if not, I second getting checked out in the medical center.

Good days to celebrate. Some Chenin Blancs are good. I prefer Sauvignon Blanc. I don’t have a desire to visit the port. I’ve seen chickpea pasta but have never had it and eggplant in pasta is common  in Italy. I’m not sure what I’m making today. Depends if Craig and Summer come home today.

We have been to Mumbai and have no desire to return.  First, because it is not a clean city.  Second because of the hassle the Indian Government provided just to get a visa to visit.  I remember an Australian telling me "The English invented red tape, but the Indians perfected it."

I will try to post a couple of pictures of my father.  One was taken in 1937 with one of his race horses and the other in 1914 while attending a military school.

Yes I was given the RSV shot last fall so that should be covered.  I made DH promise to go to the dining room tonight and I may quickly run up to the Lido and pick up something for myself while the stewards tidy up. 
 

Well the Captain tells us there is still too much ice in the way for the next three days’ ports, Qaqortoq, Paamiut, and Nanortalik, Greenland. We’re allowed only 10% ice coverage with the HAL ships and there is way too much for us to proceed. He wasn’t clear about any replacement ports or what our plans are for the next three days but I hope they come up with something. Luckily we’ve been to the missed ports before but I’m sure the majority of passengers are bummed.
