The last 2 pages are dealing with it. See post 165 for the video announcement.

I guess I did miss it. Thanks

Just read it. Glad (for now) that all we have upcoming is on the Constellation. Since they already have a Tuscan Grille wonder what they will make out of Ocean Liners?

Qsine?

My vote would be to keep it as it is.

I guess what Celebrity thinks is "exciting and amazing" is quite different

from what many of us think.....:eek::(.......my last meal

in Normandie will be next month. I wasn't even sure I was going to

dine there but now I will......

I agree with this, but maybe in a different way...*yawn*. May be big (good or bad) news to those who patronize the specialty restaurants. We aren't in that company -- MDR is fine with us. Celebrity's big news seems to be big for a minority of their customers.

In the casino do they use a continuous shuffle machine for all blackjack games or is it for only certain levels of play? Are there any variations on blackjack such as Spanish 21?

No continuous shuffle machine. Hand shuffled. No Spanish 21 either.

Well I'm underwhelmed. We already knew about the restaurant switch. They will lose money from me because my last meal in Tuscan was so bad, I said never again. The food was not good and the service was terrible.

As for MUTS, if I wanted MUTS, I would sail on Princess. Maybe my Celebrity days are limited. Or I will have to sail only on S class ships. Unfortunately my two next booked cruises after my upcoming European ones are on the Summit and the Infinity. May have to change course.

We are booked B2B on the Infinity, Dec 5 & 20 in one of the (previously) wonderful A1s on deck 11. We love the location and it is generally quiet since the space above was rarely used. Reserving judgement until we see, and hear, what it is really like.

One question, any chance there will be a fee for this venue?

Since SS United States and Normandie are basically the M-class equivalent of Murano's, what does this mean down the road for Murano's on S-class?

My thoughts, no, since all S class have both Tuscan and Murano already.

I'm guessing that since M class only have 2 specialties, not 3 or more, they have determined there's better demand for Tuscan, which was only on Connie on M class, and therefore have decided to move it into Normandie/SS US space to accommodate the desire for Tuscan, and get better value from the space.

They certainly aren't pulling Normandie out because it's popular (not to say people don't like it, just that Tuscan clearly must be more desired by the bulk of passengers), that would make no sense.

I eat the main dining room the majority of the time but I do enjoy the

Specialty Restaurants. I just think the entire "amazing" thing is not

amazing. (Just my opinion)......I have one cruise booked on X....nothing

else booked for 2016 at all with them.....after many years, I am looking

in other directions.

The video indicates its a new dining opportunity with a menu coming.

So I'd assume it may be a free entry venue to watch movies and socialize, but then you pay for food a-la-carte and drinks as in other venues, as with the GastroBar concept.

I hope they get rid of the lawn. What a waste of space and totally underutilized.

Sue

If you read the article, they are doing this space due in part to the popularity of the lawn. The lawn is Celebrity's icon these days, unique only to them, it ain't going no where.

I LOVE the lawn, the bit about cruising I hate is the lack of plants and live flowers (and leaving the dog behind).

As the refurbs are only to 2 M class ships, no lawn is involved anyway.

I for one am not thrilled with this news.

Booked the Summit for one of next Autumn's 2 week New England/Canada sailings.

I booked so early (on the Reflection in December 2014), that I was able to snag one of the Deck 11 Aft Aqua cabins. Now it appears that we will have to deal with noise every evening form movies and activities above.

Not looking forward to that.

Also wanted to try Normandie. Loved the similar venue on the Millie.

Was very disappointed by the food quality of Tuscon on the Reflection. The service was excellent but that was because there were so few tables in use the evening we were there.

I'll wait and see what people have to say when the changes are complete.

I agree with your thoughts on this. We LOVED Normandie when she first debuted, and the Olympic on Millie...... but now....now...they are a shadow of their former selves... our last venture of this type was on Connie at Ocean Liners and it was underwhelming to say the least... we were very disappointed...in food, service, all of it...the room itself looked tired and the staff just wasn't as good as in the past...not nearly....

Tuscan on Connie, on the other hand, was very busy, very good(best Tuscan we've been to) and just better on all counts. I'm glad they are making the change.... I don't have any "M" class booked, but this won't be a deterrent and until I hear that those in A1 rooms around 1116 area are disturbed by the movie above that won't either. I like the idea of choices, and what the heck, this is just adding a new feature... I CAN see where the noise factor on the aft A1's might be a factor, but we haven't booked those in the past because of the Sunset bar directly below....

Nope, the "golf balls" are aft. It appears that the Rooftop Terrace will be between the four balls. Those four large white blobs won't add to the ambiance of the place, that's for sure.

That picture is fairly old. There are now 6 golf balls with the newest set further aft. There were added sometime after the deck 11 cabins.

I took this pic yesterday:

I'm a little sad about this as I plan on going on the Summit again next year. Normandie was my first specialty on Celebrity and I lived there that entire week and Murano is my hands down favorite on the S class. I don't think they'll do anything on the S class. If I had to guess, they ran their numbers across the fleet and probably saw that cruisers preferred the steak and Italian food to the French based menu at Normandie.

Too bad. TO my taste buds, and probably the fact that I lived with my off the boat Sicilian grandmother for my first 23 years, Tuscan is strictly ok and absolutely nothing to write home about.

I love the unique speciality restaurants on the M-Class ships. Ocean Liners, The United States, Normandie, and the Olympic. They all pay homage to great ocean liners of the past and offered a unique dining experience. I've actually had some of my best dining experiences at sea in these restaurants.

Now they will be reverted to a "chain" so to speak. Unfortunately my experience at Tuscan Grill on the Solstice Class was my least favorite. It didn't compare in any way to my experiences at the "liners" restaurants on the M-Class ships. Much more ordinary.

Personally I'm sad to see them go. I hope all the wonderful artifacts from these restaurants find a nice home. I will also miss the videos hosted by John Maxtone-Graham introducing these restaurants. Unfortunately he has passed fairly recently. I guess all good things must come to an end.

Some of the news sounds fresh and appealing...other news, we'll wait & see....

glad our AQ cabin on Infinity fall 2016 is on deck 9.....quiet we hope.

We will not pay extra for amenities on the rooftop...

Adding skirt steak to the Tuscan menu...not really a thrilling development, but maybe they will make this new Tuscan venue more upscale and appealing. We enjoyed it on Connie....located where the Conservatory was & where q sine is on infinity..

We also found Ocean Liners on Connie to be very slow....long gaps bewteen courses...,food of course was outstanding...

Guess we will find out soon enough...our general plan was to stick with S class after our Infinity cruise....hope they do not mess with those ships!

After the Deck 11? I was assuming they were added for internet and TV based on age of prior image.

Wonder what they do.

One thing I've never seen discussed on CC is that X is the 1st cruise line to go to all electronic charts, no more paper maps. Captain told us this on our TA crossing to Rome, said the new protocol was adopted just in April. Wonder if the new golf balls are related to such guidance systems....

From the old image, what USED to be up top I see a couple glass covered atrium looking spaces...?

Are you sure it's above the AQ cabins on deck 12? Those "golf balls" in the background suggest it is forward on deck 12 above the observation lounge.

Phil

I just imagine you will be able to hear the movies at night on your balcony since that is when they will be playing.

I'm presuming that's the "major" announcement.

Hi Andy:

Can I get a coozy or a whistle for getting it right in post 28.

Don't like the movie idea like many others.

Also, did not expect Michel Roux to come back but it was wishful thinking.

Celebrity also states there will be a "refresh of the Solarium, with new furniture, new floors, and refinished pool tops, and a refresh of finishes in the spa café" on Infinity & Summit.

If anything could use an updating and makeover on the M class ships, it is the Persian Gardens. Celebrity did not mention that area. The way they appear now, it really isn't modern. Even Century had a better looking Persian Garden.

Disagree all you'd like, but if it was profitable, and people were banging down the door to dine there, they'd make it work and keep it open. What motivation would they have to close a more profitable, more popular venue for a less profitable one?

Happy sailing,

Jenna

Most agree that Tuscan is likely more profitable. That isn't a reason just to replace it as your response implies.

It's also likely more profitable to make the toilets pay per use in each of the public areas of the ship. From your assumption, it would be expected to occur in the next renovation.
