Coughing on the ship

How would you feel if a passenger on your ship was constantly coughing?

the person could have asthma, or could be recovering from a cold/cough, or could in fact be sick?

simple choice of two (1) give him the benefit of the doubt, he could also be chronic smoker (2) toss his butt overboard

There many causes for a chronic cough that are not contagious.  Asthma, allergies, smoking, lung diseases and a cough can even be a side effect of some high blood pressure meds.  One of my kids was asthmatic and I remember getting the evil eye from other moms when he was in nursery school.

I had a coughing fit on the plane a couple of weeks ago.  I wanted to tell everyone "NO FEVER....just a cough!"

Can practice good self hygiene to reduce risk of catching whatever the cougher has, if they have anything.

Dry air on planes and confined spaces gets me every time so I carry cough drops or hard candy so I don't scare people into thinking I am sick.

Just got off ship on Sunday. It seemed like more than usual were coughing the last few nights of the cruise.  I even had a little laryngitis.  I blamed it on all the disenfectant on board. Anyone else have a problem.

The coughing passenger is a paying passenger on the ship who passed medical screening and allowed to board. Not an issue.

I wouldn’t lie and say that I would probably pick up my drink and move away from you. I just picture the Princess passengers who  also didn’t think much of a cough, just the times, the media is blasting this like it’s the end of the world.

But the medical screening - Isnt it only to measure a temperature upon boarding? What happen if and when the passenger sickness show up after boarding? I guess most cruisers would be concern about a simple cough. Avoid the elevators if you could and more hand washing.

On my last cruise, I had caught a bad cold with a terrible cough the week prior, so sometimes I had fits of coughing. (I had gone to the doctor who confirmed it was just a cold, I had no fever,  so nothing serious, but the cough did linger on for over a month!)

 

People stayed away and rightful so, because who wants to get sick while on vacation? I imagine I would be thrown overboard if I were in that condition now on a ship. Maybe would make myself a sign, just a cold, no fever!

It's tough on people who have coughs that are not contagious; I am in that category due to allergies and sinus problems--or so I thought.

 

After years (at least 20) and many, many drugs, surgeries, shots, etc.  my dr. finally gave me meds for acid reflux (I had no other symptoms) that has stopped most of my coughing.  Still have a dry cough at times, but nothing like the old days.

 

I just hope people remember that not all coughs are infectious--but I understand the concern; I've found myself cringing when around someone who is coughing, lately.

My wife takes medicine that may cause her to cough for a period before she settles.   Heaven help anyone who starts making comments!!!!!

My wife has COPD and will often have coughing spells, she's not contagious. I don't assume anyone with a cough has something I might catch. Worrying doesn't fix anything anyway.

My husband also has COPD and the cough when he has an infection from a virus sounds different. This is what we hear as a "wet" cough. Lots of healthy people have a dry cough for various reasons.

I have a chronic cough due to asthma and allergies.  Certain things (particularly stress) can make it much worse.

 

I am proactive to let people know I'm not sick and I'm waiting for my allergy pill to kick in and it seems to calm any fears.

In some places the casino is laid out that you can't get to your room without walking through a cloud of smoke.  Not necessarily on cruise ships, but definitely at some casino resorts.  There's on in Scottsdale that I attended a conference at, and the only complaint almost every single attendee had was that we had to walk through smoke to get between the conference rooms and the sleeping rooms.  When even some of the smokers mentioned how bad it was...

I was in a group yesterday where the topic of covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough came up, and one elderly lady mentioned that it is painful for her to lift her arm to cover her mouth, so therefore, she doesn't.  That comment makes me want to order one of these suits 😷 and makes me wonder how she eats 🙄:

I take a medication that has coughing as a side effect.  Add that to the fact that I had bronchitis back in January and still cough from time to time from that.  I am very careful to cough into my sleeve or even down the neck of my shirt if it is stretchy enough.  That is only common courtesy.

How bizarre

Unfortunately Royal Caribbean still allows smoking in the casinos on all their ships. The exception is cruises departing from the UK and Australia.

Yeah, with a "smoking section" in one area of the casino and non-smoking in the rest.  As if the smoke (ventilation system not withstanding) knows where to stay and where not to travel!  😕 That is the one major negative I have with RCI and one of the reasons (among others) that we prefer Celebrity within the RCI brand family.
