I called the HAL Hotline for the noon update.  No change in the status which I think is guardedly good.  Next update at 8PM.  They did add one thing, asking us to call for the latest update before heading to the dock.

They will slow but not stop.  While the open enrollment period will end, people keep turning 65 personal enrollment periods every day so they'll keep on pushing.

CC gremlins strike again.  It shows you quoted me but it’s from @dfish.  It’s been a bit wonky for me today.

No news on the transfer to a regulaar room.  The positive test for flu may be slowing getting a room.  Even though PPE isn't required, he is still consodered to be in isolation.  I'm supposed to wear a mask when I'm in his room.  I do cheat and pull it down when I'm not close to him.  This room is bigger than most hospital rooms, and it has an separate entry room if PPE is required.

Well, that is true.  Open Enrollment will end eventually and at least they aren't spewing hate and lies about others.  They are a bit easier to tune out.  I do get annoyed at how dumb the Medicare ads think we are.

Well, that is truly too bad that you will have to start over.  Being flat on your back does take it out of you.  There is noticeable loss of lung capacity after a long time bedridden.  The only remedy is getting up and moving.  You'll get there eventually.  I guess this is also a lesson on developing patience.  I have none when it comes to being sick.

@HAL Sailer safe drive today.

@Crazy For Cats Nice flowers.  Special occasion or is Juan just being nice?

@bennybearI don't care about the order as long as I have cream and jam for my scones.  They are a special treat to me.  Just like cannoli is in Boston.

Starting over is just my guess, and I hope I'm wrong.  Because one leg was numb and he was afriad of falling between the first and second surgeries, DH spent too much time in bed.  That and now this incident has taken a toll on him, so he still has a long road ahead of him.

I'm like you, I have no patience with being sick.  Most of the time I'll get up and get dressed even if I just sit and read.  Staying in bed just makes me feel worst, at least mentally.

Good morning. I am later today as I got a phone call yesterday afternoon from the doctor’s office that they had a cancellation at eight am today. My DSIL drove me and I had the cortisone injection, returning home with my trusty cane. I was told it takes a week or so to really feel the effects and await good results, I hope.

@Quartzsite Cruiser, Lenda, I was so glad to see that your DH fared well and will soon return to a regular room. I was also happy that you got some rest yourself.

@MISTER 67, that bandage is impressive and I am sure your thumb is very sore but hopefully things will improve shortly.

We love pumpkin soup here and I make it often. All the recipes look great.

As for the quote, poor Marilyn. I think her life was very sad. We have not been to the port but I am as usual enjoying all the pictures.

Take care everyone, especially those in Nicole’s path.

Terry

Terry, I'm happy you could get the cortisone injection sooner rather than later.

@grapau27 Thank you for the food porn.  That fish looks so good!

Does anyone else think that it is too early to put up Christmas?  It looks nice, but too early!

@dfishThank you for the recipes.  I had pumpkin soup in Jamaica, and it was fabulous.  I had no idea how healthy pumpkin was for you.  I guess I will have to eat more pie.😸

It's not too early for HAL.  Granted just in the shops.

Good morning or afternoon, or maybe I should just say Good day!  Things have been a bit hectic here the last couple of weeks, in and out of hospitals, doctors' offices, etc.  DD says we should just take our sleeping bags and camp out in the hospital parking lot.  Hopefully things will get more settled now, but I'm a little afraid we may have to cancel our cruise next month.

I have been reading the Daily when I can, and saying many prayers for all those suffering, whether it's from illness or even delayed cruises!  We have gone from Summer to Winter in the space of two weeks of pretty well steady rain.  Now we have snow on the ground, but the sun is shining, and we're not supposed to have any more precipitation this week, just lots of cold.  Good day to make soup!

Well, at least we know who their target audience is. 😂

My sister and I once did a circuit around Lake Erie.  One of my favourite stops was the Cleveland Museum of Art.  I would post awesome pictures but I guess they’re on another device.

Every time I think of Carl Sagan I hear him say “Billions and billions.”  I really enjoyed a number of his books.  I should read some more.

Interesting that today’s meal suggestion has pumpkin in it because I was just perusing pumpkin-related recipes.  If you’d like to have Pumpkin Bread instead of soup I can vouch for the awesomeness of this recipe:

2 cups flour (all purpose)

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 cup pumpkin (cooked or from tin)

1/2 cup oil

2 eggs

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp each: salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger

Add 1/4 cup water if using hard flour

Coat loaf pan with butter and granulated sugar.

Blend ingredients until thoroughly mixed.  Batter will be wet.

Pre-heat oven to 350*F. Bake 65-75 minutes. (if glass pan lower the temp and lengthen the time.)

If you like a bit of icing I use:

1/2 cup powdered/icing sugar

1/2 tablespoon lemon juice (about 1/4 fresh squeezed lemon)

1 tablespoon melted butter

1/4 cup chopped walnuts

lemon zest

1/2 tsp vanilla

Mix ingredients and pour over bread once it has cooled so it forms a thin crust and doesn’t disappear into hot bread.

Hello everyone,

I am sorry I haven't been here in the past few days.  I have been very busy.  Tried to get CC to change my email.  Took a while.

Now I am embarrassed to say that I have forgotten how to update the EMAIL LINK.

It is now removed, by accident and I don't know how to get it back and insert my new email.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Terri

Good Morning from the Noordam
We are currently at sea headed to Sydney. Will be there on the 12th. It has been a great trip so far with a few hiccups. I think we all just have to accept that things are changing. Not all of the issues are the fault of Hal but some are. The staff is enthusiastic but inexperienced. They are trying.
My nephew and neighbors are keeping me updated on the storm. My nephew sent pictures of the beach. Couldn’t believe what I was seeing and the storm has not yet hit.

My thoughts and prayers are with all my Dailylite friends.
Ann @cat shepardthankd for your encouraging words yesterday. Stay safe and hope all goes well for you in the storm.

stay safe and enjoy today

Remember the washer, supposed to be delivered between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m.? It came at 2:53. I got home from work only shortly before that.

Just now I've ducked out to buy batteries and cardboardeaux. The batteries are for the remote controls in the rummage sale; so far only one has had working batteries. The cardboardeaux is to help me cope with all the things that need batteries, and the unexplained remote controls that don't match any device that was donated.

Happy Day AFTER Election to all, except those in Georgia!  My sympathies for you as you have another month of politics to endure!!!!  Are the candidates allowed to "campaign" before the run-off?

I loved that others mentioned the Medicare Open Enrollment period ads - in addition to those on TV, and all of the mailings, I also get 1-2 emails or snail mail weekly from AT&T.  I don't take their insurance and haven't done so for at least 15 years, but they are constantly hounding me at this time of year.  GEEZ, can't you people get the message that I don't want or need to participate?

My prayers for all who are having health issues, and other problems.  I would love it if the Cares list was smaller.  @rafinmd, please put my step-son on the rotation, as this is going to be a long siege with healing and additional surgery.  There are others with more pressing and serious needs and he is doing as well as possible during this healing process.

My special prayers are for all those in the way of Nicole, who is a very unwelcome visitor.  How much more can Florida endure - only about 3 more weeks of official hurricane season.  For all those in N's path please take care and evacuate if told to do so!!!

We have had terrible wind last night and this morning.  Now we have had rain since noon, and the snow will come tonight!  Thankful for the moisture, but I hate the cold, gray gloom.

A friend and I went to a noon concert at the downtown Methodist Church which is held once a month!  Fabulous guitar recital - classical Spanish music.  I always love to hear this man perform.  I also get to enjoy some of his music weekly as he is the music director at the Catholic Church I attend.

Thanks to all who make this such a special place.  Have a great rest of the day, everyone!

Good to see you! Enjoy yourself, there is nothing you can do.

Still not 100% sure where it will make landfall, but I know I will be on the Northeast side, unless something totally unexpected happens.  But I should be fine. 🤞🏻

Volusia County just announced that many of the string of high rise condos in Daytona Shores are condemned from Ian’s destructive waves & storm surge.   I am not sure if  @JAM37 Julia’s is included, but some of the destruction resembles earthquake damage.  Entire pool decks and underground parking areas destroyed. I think Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel even showed a couple in one of his reports.

There are already parts of A1A closed from surf cresting the dunes and washing over the road and even part of the scenic loop on the mainland side of the Intercoastal is flooded. Several drivers had to be rescued by one of the county’s new amphibious vehicles when the tides came in so fast and high earlier today.

The storm won’t peak until tomorrow, but today’s tides might be a bit worse because of Monday’s full moon.

Bindi also realizes conditions aren’t going to get any better, so she takes care of business quickly.

Ann

@Quartzsite CruiserLenda I am thankful for Steve's improvement and he can move to a step down room.

Finally got in touch of one of my DS and DB is still in the rehab and they did an ultrasound with no results reported.  Tomorrow he takes a ambulance transfer to his surgeon hopefully for the MRI too.  Meanwhile bed sores are spreading.  He can't get a break.  Thank you for all of your prayers.   Nancy

I see a couple of hopeful signs.  Nicole passed Nassau quite recently and already there's a ship there with a Carnival ship closing in rapidly.  Meanwhile Eurodam is about half way up the Florida Keys.  Don't see Rotterdam yet, possibly because she stopped to help a small boat in distress.

Roy , Rotterdam rescued 14 people from a makeshift raft . A very good reason if she is delayed in arriving tomorrow.

Yes, the Rotterdam was delayed, but actually less than about 2 hours.  A very happy ending for 14 VERY lucky people.  If interested, you can read the thread I started earlier.  Rotterdam had been scheduled to start debarkation tomorrow late morning then depart at 9pm.  Always with the caveat "subject to change".

I came home late this afternoon when it became obvious that DH would not be moved to a regular room today.  I think they need to find an isolation room because of the positive flu test.  He said he doesn’t feel like he has the flu and he hasn't had a fever or aches and pains, just some congestion.

After running a couple of errands tomorrow morning I'll head back to Waco and the hospital.  I'm not sure where I'll find him, but I know he'll be in good hands.
