Darn, a positive Covid test!  Something we all hate to see.  Must have caught it on your 5 day NCL cruise since you just returned 3 days ago.  Props to your doctor for getting back to you right away and  I hope the Paxlovid helps.

The e-visit is completed. Didn't require a video conference, just a questionnaire about symptoms and history.

Good Thursday Morning Dailyites!  The computer says it's 58 and cloudy.  I took the food out to the cats, it actually doesn't feel any warmer than yesterday, because of the humidity.  It was raining earlier, and more is expected.

I saw an article on the Today show a couple of weeks ago, that taught me something.  If you fall, and things don't feel right, do not wait, do not pass go, do not tell your SO to take you to the doctor the next day-dial 911 and get an ambulance to take you to the hospital NOW!   For several reasons, one was to be seen immediately,   apparently when you wait a few days, and then show up, they wont take you seriously because you have managed to be injured and carried on all by yourself.  You want to go now!

You also dont want the SO to drive you, or you them, if its them that is injured because they may get worse, or you worse, on the way to the hospital.  You will also be seen by a doctor.  There, who will look at your xrays, and tell you what is wrong, and fix it, then. Or triage you until you can be seen by an expert.

We have to stop acting like martyrs and start treating ourselves like the royalty we are.  If you question your worth, I now pronounce you all prince and princess of the Royal Daily Family, and hope that you wont wait until you cant stand the pain anymore, ...when you are in pain, or fall, or don't feel well, no more just wait, seek help immediately and take your paparazzi's along with you.

@StLouisCruisersDrive safely, and Bon Voyage!

@rafinmdGlad you are sleeping better.

@Seasick SailorFind another doctor for your life, and send Dr Jones a note, -this is not a thank you for your apathy towards your patients.

Good morning all. Raining heavily this am. Water already ponding under my chestnut tree. Only clumps of snow left sporadically since we have  been just above freezing for several days.I know you don’t need the rain @kazubut hopefully the warmth will reach you.

@rafinmdgood to hear that you are out and about. The ladies have the daily covered so rest easy. One less thing on your to do list.

@StLouisCruisersthanks for stepping in for Roy and rich  and thanks to the three dailyites that will continue the tradition. Such a great place to come first thing, last thing at night and in between! Have a great cruise sandi.

Prayers for all that need them. The earthquake news is so devastating. I think of the people left homeless as well. And there are no words for the human decision to devastate the Ukraine. Prayers there too.

celebrated a little too much with my wise Wednesday women yesterday so will only send out greetings to those celebrating and going on cruises!

have a great day everyone and stay dry if you are having rain,

Good morning, everyone!

Not much on the agenda today so I think after I hit the gym I'll paint the trim in the upstairs bathroom.  It isn't in the best of shape.  That may morph into painting the bathroom.  We shall see.

This first recipe does not have @kochleffel Paul's dried mushrooms, but I think one of them does.  The soup sounds good, but the barley might be too much for me carb wise.  https://www.aheadofthyme.com/vegetarian-mushroom-barley-soup/

1357687016_mushroombarleysoup1.thumb.jpg.931ac49d837a31cf59b88c2cfa368807.jpg

This next one has a mix of dried and fresh mushrooms.  I'd probably use a vegetable broth with it instead of plain water.  I can still add the seasonings.  The more, the better.  https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/mushroom_barley_soup/

945038379_mushroombarleysoup2.thumb.jpg.2d10538c7a787ff219d1ec7a6f5f605d.jpg

This last one also does not have the dried mushrooms in the recipe, but there is no reason why  you couldn't add them.  Just like I leave out the carrots, I'd add the dry mushrooms in their place.   https://www.themediterraneandish.com/simple-mushroom-barley-soup/

73150143_mushroombarleysoup3.thumb.jpg.66519e725e80ecd1540a5ec83137e2d5.jpg

One of these soups would go perfectly here today as it is rainy and cold.  Not as cold as it has been, but rain always makes it feel colder.

@rafinmd Good news that you can do a bit more as time goes by.  I know how something like this can set you back.

@kochleffel Wishes that your Covid case is mild and fleeting.  I hope the Paxlovid helps.

@kazu We miss you.

@Seasick Sailor I hope you hear from that doctor today and that he has some suggestions for you to make your trip more enjoyable.

@grapau27 I hope Sarah is doing better and the injection is finally helping.

@smitty34877 Warm hugs out to you and Tana.

@luvteaching I'm glad DH is getting settled in the rehab facility and that it was a smoother transfer than before.

@Cruising-along So sorry about the kidney function news.  Kidneys can rebound.  My dad's did.  He did dialysis for a couple of weeks to give them a rest and then was fine.  Hopefully the doctors can find something to help. Hugs.

@marshhawk Hoping Chuck is coming along and  your nursing days are few in number!

Sending the best to anyone I may have inadvertently left off my list.  I always hesitate to start a list like that because I know someone should be there that isn't.  It isn't intentional.

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Thanks for our Thursday Daily, Sandi and our list.

I’ll celebrate pizza day on Friday, I think in @ger_77’s fashion 😉  I will NOT celebrate toothache day and reading in the bathtub is impossible right now.  One armed down’t work to get in and out 😉

LOL on the quote.  Good question. 😉

I feel badly as I have missed news, have to catch up and was not on to wish my deepest condolences to @cat shepard & @bennybear.  I am so sorry for your losses 😢 Prayers for you all 🙏🏻

@Cruising-alongso sorry to hear of your disappointing tests.  😔

@Seasick SailorI sure hope you can get some help today from the clinic 🤞 There isn’t much that can be done for that sadly, but they should be able to give you some solid advice to help at the very least.

@Seasick SailorSailing out of San Diego can be rough at times.  When we did the Hawaii, Tahiti & Marquesas cruise it was a very nice sailing, but there was certainly ‘motion of the ocean’ coming back.  HAL has a product called something like Motion Ease (and DH found it at a luggage store here) that Jose swore by.  Doesn’t have any effect like sleepiness, homeopathic but it sure did the trick for him.

@kochleffeloh no on covid. 😱  I am so sorry.  Glad you are getting the mes and I sure hope they help 🙏🏻

@rafinmdPlease take it easy and rest as much as you can.  I hope you can continue to slowly improve.  🙏🏻 Don’t worry about the Daily - once my elbow is a bit better I am happy to give Sandi @StLouisCruisersa break if she would like.

And, speaking of @StLouisCruisers   Bon Voyage!  I hope you have a fabulous cruise!

Many thanks to @cat shepard & @JazzyV For stepping in and stepping up to cover Sandi’s absence.

Well I had another visit to the hospital (scheduled) - so grateful for my kind neighbours who take me and wait - and I am home with no cast and no splint.  😬. I am sparing you all the picture 😉 My  doctor tells me he does not want it immobilized any longer or it will be frozen for life.

So I start a very limited physio - very carefully.  It’s not healed so I have to treat it like it is in a splint and only permitted to do one tiny motion.  It’s going to be a long haul - next specialist appointment is in 6 weeks so it’s up to me to do the hard work.  Hopefully, I will be able to drive by then 🤞  @JazzyVyou can take me off the Care list, thanks.  The risk of infection is just about all gone and it is going to be a matter of patience (I’m not), hard work and time.

I will try to post more often - I am just too slow right now with too much to do but at least I got my 3 spread sheets up to date (only going on one of the cruises now 😞 and very thankful for Lily’s @ajh1cruiserassistance on the Norway sailing) and I think I have all the documents printed off for the insurance & yes, I am consulting a lawyer.

Good morning Dailyites.

Many thanks to all who contribute. Sandi we will be missing your posts. Please try to stop in and say hello.  You always have something of interest and I enjoy you.

I pray your drive goes well and you have a perfect cruise. You deserve it!

Thinking of the devastating earthquake that struck down thousands. My heart aches for them. Prayers lifted to Roy, Jacqui, Tana, Kathi (hope she gives an update soon) and Graham what's going on with Sarah?

The luggage is finished and gone, I nearly have our weekender bags ready for the 3 days in San Diego.  We are both excited to see Ethan and hoping we have a smooth sailing out of San Diego on the 18th. Since we haven't sailed across to Hawaii before, can it be a bumpy ride? Maybe Seasick patches?

There's 35 minutes left before the clinic opens. I'm calling. "Not much can be done" but what CAN be done? I'll sit with my coffee and bag of frozen peas and Google it if need be.

Enjoy toothache day..

DH said yesterday that since the surgery, and his lower lid isn't folded over, his eye does feel better, not all the itching....but the stitches itch.  He just got up, so I have not seen the eye today, but he says it feels alright, yesterday the upper lid was swelling, and dropping down over the eye.  He is bored, he wants to work, he may go back to that today, and once i get us fed breakfast, I will put the antibiotics on his stitches, and we can chill out this morning.

I did take a picture yesterday of his eye but I know some of us are squeamish, so i wont post it.  I took it for his history.

Thanks Annie for your bon voyage!  Also thanks for our pep talk on getting help immediately after falling.  Seems like we'd better start remembering that.  How is your DH Chuck doing?  Is he leaving his eye alone?

Seems like my multi-quoting is presenting things out of order today.  Hope it didn't drop any.

Thank you Joy.  I enjoy you, too!!❤️  I hope you got the doctor on the line this morning and gave him a piece of my/our mind(s).  We want action.  Love the memes!  As for the rough ride to Hawaii, we've only noticed it the day or two after leaving Los Angeles.  Someone once said there is a shelf in the ocean off the coast and that causes bigger than usual waves.  I really don't know if that's true but I did notice the rough water.  I use meclizine if I feel I might feel nauseous.  Others have said the wrist bands work well, too.

Thanks for your bon voyage Jacqui.  What great news the splint is off and no cast either.  Take care doing your physio exercise!

This morning we kept hearing a noise banging on the window in the living room.  When we open up the plantation shutters a female Cardinal keeps flying off.  I wonder why she's messing around with our window today?  Could it be one of our loved ones visiting from heaven?  🐦😇

Good morning everyone.  Thanks for the daily report @StLouisCruisers.   I’ll celebrate pizza day but not toothache day thank you very much.  If I had the time, I’d celebrate read in the bathtub day so that I could finish A Gentleman in Moscow, but unfortunately, I don’t.  I’m not sure what everyone else is thinking of the future but I see a lot of travel and no space helmets.  The meal suggestion sounds delicious as does the drink. I haven’t been to today’s port yet but will later this year.  Thanks for sharing your photos!  Prayers for everyone on our prayer list today.  Cheers to all of you celebrating happy events and traveling today.

Double-thank you Sandi, thank you Debbie, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for your daily contribution! And thank you all for being here!

Today's meal suggestion reminds me of our daytrip to Arezzo, Italy from Florence last October. We ate at a small restaurant in the Piazza Grande and I had their Barley and Mushroom soup. It was very rustic and as my grandmother would say "made to stick to your ribs." The owner spoke only Italian but had a big dog that appeared to be a Bernese Mountain Dog at the restaurant. I showed her a picture of Sam and it immediately was an icebreaker!

Yesterday we rebooked our remaining Carnival cruise. A bit of history. In an impromptu moment after our cruise around Iceland last year, we booked a 14-Night cruise  to neighboring Greenland from Baltimore on the Carnival Legend. The first offering for September 2023 was sold out in two days! To our surprise they scheduled a second cruise about a week later and were able to book the last (at the time) verandah. As it has unfolded the itinerary had begun to sink in with us. It will have eight sea days followed by two port calls at Nanortalik and Qaqortoq. Unfortunately CC has been able to arange for any excursions for these two towns so essentially just walking around the town and getting back onboard. After our cruise on the Carnival Legend last month, we found CC sea days are not of interest compared to HAL sea days. We were locked in though with an $800.00 non-refundable deposit.

With Sue finally feeling better from her bout with COVID and mutually agreed we could be in the same room together, the discussion came up about what to do. Surprisingly I was able to convince her to cruise on the new Carnival Venezia this November from NYC. It is one of the Costa Crociere ships transferred to Carnival but just slightly re-branded keeping the Costa decor. Billed as "Carnival Fun Italian Style." After our MSC cruise last year and the one this September it will be interesting to make comparisons.

The reality of cruising from NYC set in with booking a hotel for a night before the cruise. It is more than the fare on Amtrak Business Class RT from Virginia!

Stay Safe!

- Jack

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I will celebrate national pizza day, although I may try a cauliflower or chicken crust to reduce the carbs. No thanks to a toothache! I shower, so no reading in the bathtub. Funny quote. The soup looks good. Pass on the drink, but yes to the wine.

I've been to Athens, although not on a cruise, and pre-digital photos.

It's already 50F here, but rain and high winds later.

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for starting us up today and our lists. I'm glad the computer is working better. Nice photos from Piraeus. Safe travels tomorrow!

@0106 Great views of the Pitons.

@rafinmd Slow and steady progress, Roy.

@cat shepard Good news on nothing found at the Dermatologist!

@aliaschief Another great sunrise.

@ottahand7 I hope you get back in your cabin soon, although with no smells or anything to irritate your asthma.

@kochleffel Paul, sorry to hear about the positive Covid test. I hope you're feeling relatively well and that the Paxlovid helps.

@Seasick Sailor When I sailed from LA to Hawaii there was some motion, but not bad. Initially it was cooler and windy on the decks when I tried to walk. I think your doctor's response wasn't great, not giving you much help.

@smitty34877 I hope Tana is having better nights.

@kazu Nice to see you here. Good to hear no cast and no splint! Good luck with the careful physio. How about I put you on the Care List rotation?

@marshhawk Good news that DH's eye feels better.

@Heartgrove I'm glad Sue is feeling better. Good job on rebooking that Carnival cruise that didn't sound too interesting.

Prayers for the Care List and a Toast to the Celebration List.

Try to stay well everyone.

Good Morning from a warm and sunny day at the beach

I will celebrate Pizza day but a big No to toothache day. Who does that?

I was saddened to see so many on the Care list. Really hope things start to improve for everyone   Life is not fair sometimes

Sandi @StLouisCruisers  Have a wonderful and safe trip. Wave to me as you pass the Cocoa Beach exit on 95.  Also a big thank you for all you to keep this thread moving

@Seasick Sailor  I hope you get some relief. That is wicked  In my experience out of San Diego the seas can go either way  It is also cold the first few days  If you are prone to seasickness, I would certainly get something to be prepared.

@ottahand7 Thank you for your reports.  Since the excursions are not yet listed for our October trip (??)  it helps with my planning,

        Off to play golf .

Stay safe and enjoy today

       Charlene

I use the seasickness patch and DD took meclazine when we were going to and fro on the Hawaii cruise. it was bumpy on the way there but smooth on the return. We went in January.

My DSIL swore by ginger that he found in San Diego.DH was absolutely  fine....

I ordered the seasick dots. They are due today. I got Bonine at the market yesterday and I'll pick up the candied ginger at Whole Foods tomorrow. Also saw wrist band suggestion and get those too. Every year whale watching on Maui I took Bonine because honestly,  I am a Sea Sick Sailor!!

I enjoy reading a book in the bathtub while eating a pizza, so I am going to enjoy celebrating today.  I have a floating pizza pan, and best of all, you don't need napkins as you can just wash off any spillage from the pizza.  The book pages can get soggy if you are not careful while reading, so remember to get a grip folks.

@marshhawk Ann, I hope Chuck feels better. I had a Blepharoplasty done about two years ago to improve my peripheral vision. Sue said it improved my looks as well!  😄  It laid me up for about three days. I definitely have some scary pictures of that!

@StLouisCruisers Sandi, have awonderful trip.

@kochleffel Paul, I hope the Paxlovid helps. The doctor here wouldn't prescribe it for Sue and DSIL last week.

@kazu Jacqui, good to hear you are on the mend.

I suppose that some doctors might think that it's not helpful or needed, or be concerned about rebound. There are also many contraindications for it, especially other drugs with which it would interact.  I've arranged for someone to pick it up.

Good morning all,

We have a lovely day here that just feels like spring. Today’s agenda includes visiting Dad, errands, a wood project and finishing a valentines gift for DH. The wood working is making a holder for HAL tiles for my neighbor’s fiancé’s birthday next week. I discovered my woodworking skills have disappeared into thin air, having left them unattended some 15 years. 😏 I think DH’s gift of an travel game made on my embroidery machine is coming along better.

@kazu Is the Motion Ease the drops behind the ear?

@kochleffel, @superoma You have me intrigued on the dried mushrooms. Where do you get them, and what are they like? (The only ones I’ve seen are shitakes, and I don’t really care for them.)

Have a great day everyone!

Me, too. There was a thread a while ago about the patches, beginning with a question of whether all the passengers with white dots behind their ears were members of the same cult.
